Yeah, it's known that you could make double hits against Onox. The problem with getting a ring is that it takes a very long time to get. First you need to bump into Maple and manipulate the right ring. Then you'll have to appraise it. There's no way this would be faster. Level 1 sword does 4 damage to him. He starts with 80 HP and once it reaches 40 he goes into his second phase. The double hits that you can do with three hearts would bring his health down to 24. It is possible, by using the sword and Roc's Cape, to hit Onox without touching Din. And as the cape is required for the last phase anyway, this won't be an extra item switch. Using a Pegasus Seed against the Moth would most likely be slightly faster. But it wasn't even tested because there was only one seed left, and using that to run to the tree saves a lot more. Current progress: Inside the fifth dungeon: Unicorn's Cave.

Would be awesome to watch it with all the pauses cut out, Super Metroid style :D. It was really nice though, even though the pauses get a bit annoying.

Just finished watching this piece of art. Really great run. Nice use of glitches and I liked the way you moved around the characters. You have my yes vote, sir.

And because TASvideos already accepted, and published, an OoT run with Japanese text in the past, this shouldn't really be any different.

If you do the glitch Mugg mentioned, you can reenter the level, hold left and you'll land at the exit. Which is faster than playing through the whole level. Edit: Just did a sloppy test: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/807270039/SML2FirstLevel.vbm (VBAm used) As seen, not optimised at all. And with the pixel trick, you can do the glitch at the first pipe instead of the second. Still, this was 750 frames faster than the current run.

It also lags the same way when you play the ocarina normally, without glitching. Which is also removed in VBA 24. So everytime I play the ocarina, I'm losing nearly 100 frames because of lag in VBA 23. Great... =/

Moot because that did not happen. No he wouldn't be stealing, I would have expected tasvideos to still honor me because I got it first. Of course that view has changed.
So you expect TASvideos to "honor" all persons that first discovered/used tricks, glitches, strategies etc that a run is using, in the submission/publication? You got your mention by P4wn3r in his submission. A submission that you wasn't involved in the making at all. You only taught him a new strategy that he used for that run and that he didn't claim as his.

What if someone found out how to do beat the game the same exact way as you did it, without watching your run? Would that person be stealing the run as well? Of course not. The only difference now is that you were nice enough to provide the strategy for anyone to use in a run, which p4wn3r did. Or let's take Andrew G's SMB 4:59 real time run. Would I steal it if I made a 4:59 run myself? No, as I made the run myself, even though his run might have taught me a trick or two. If you didn't want this discussion to happen, then you should just have submitted your run. But it is your own fault that you didn't really. P4wn3r gave you the credit for finding the improvement to the run however. None of the judges did anything wrong with this and neither did p4wn3r.

You don't need to start a topic to explain the game. The problem with TASing the BS games is that you have to wait for the in game time before you can proceed in the game. So it won't make a good TAS.

Run was started on December 2009. But I didn't really work much on it until around August/September last year. During February and March I took a break from it, so about 9-10 months or so.

It's impossible to tell when it will be finished. It's done when it's done and we just have to wait.

http://www.mediafire.com/?tq9634sypq1f1ac That's the ini file at least. I can't really spot what is wrong with it. It seems to be working fine as long as I don't use those buttons, shift and ctrl. But I can't tell for sure. When I removed the ini file to reset it from scratch, it all worked fine. But I can't tell what caused it in the first place, as I didn't do anything out of the ordinary (As far as I know), just some normal TASing... Oh well. About the sound: Thanks a lot. Would be nice if you could fix!

Probably to have both parts in one movie. But yeah, not that neccesary to do right now anyway, whatever. You got an awesome looking WIP at least, Carl. Great work!

One suggestion... As of now, when you set the sound to "Mute" and load a save state where you didn't have the sound set to mute, it will come back. If that could be changed to still have the sound muted, would make me glad. Edit: Another thing, more serious this time. I was TASing some Drill Dozer with v24 before, everything was working fine with no issues. But now when I opened it up again, tried to make a save state (Shift+F3 in this case) a window appeared that said "GDB connection" appeared, something I had never seen before. I tried to close it, but it didn't work. Only thing I could do was to shut down the emulator through the task manager. I then tried to find out what made the window appear. So I browsed through all the hotkeys and found the GDB thing under the debug section. And for some weird reason it had many many many hotkets set for it, something I have never touched. These includes SEVERAL of: Alt, alt+, CtrlShift, Ctrl+Shift and many more. I was able to delete all of the "Alt" ones, I think (As you can't even view all hotkeys set for it) but most of these weren't even possible to remove as hotkeys. The conclusion is that everytime I want to use shift or ctrl, the GDB Connection window appears and I have to restart the emulator. Explanation, please?

Before I started working on the run, I believe I knew about the cancelled Japanese TAS. But during the making, I completely forgot about it and had never seen it before. The reason why he's faster in the first level is because of a different route. One that I was stupid enough to overlook because I haven't played this game enough :/. Anyway, I'll try to improve your WIP a little. Edit: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1619004605/Drill%20Dozer%20TAS.vbm 9 frames faster.

Well, one year later I decided to upload the WIP to youtube for some reason. Also included a little bit from the second level. I stopped working on it because of lack of interest. Might continue on it one day, but not yet. It also needs redoing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_xsozUPuaw

It looked good. The level still sucks though, which is obviously not your fault. For the last fight, here are some addresses that might come in handy: 7E1CF4 = Boss HP. 7E1CFB = Left Ball HP. 7E1CFD = Right Ball HP. You can't do any damage to the boss during the first round after the balls have been destroyed.

Sgrunt: You should know that the in game timer runs slower on the NES version than it does on SNES, so comparing those is not a good idea.

Told him to redo that yesterday, which he said he was going to do, so I hope he will. Missed shots are usually not a good thing, no. Haven't watched it yet so I don't know what it looks like. Will probably have a look tomorrow or so.
