For affinities, can multiple elements go up in one battle? If so, this needs to be manipulated for sure. If not, you get to save a ton of time not doing those 1 damage attacks. You should also be able to manipulate the number of steps to the next battle, this means both fewer battles, and less time spent walking in front of the big red bird (if you do indeed need those levels still) If you CAN be getting card drops, you should, every time. Especially abuse F. Witches for Fire cds. Even better if there's some eq you could use. Since the final battles depend entirely on ATBack and Spirit, and your HP doesn't seem to be an issue, I think you could go way lower in levels if you wanted, especially if you had even more affinity due to better manipulation and cards. Do you really need Midia using SPUp all the time? I'm not sure how relevant Midia's affinities really are. (Especially E/Sp.) Could you be using the instant kill spells at all? Seems like this could save a ton of time.

Is there more manipulation that could be done? There are three things in particular: -Enemy patterns. For each area, there is going to be an 'ideal' enemy setup, generally the one that gives you the most XP in the least time. I notice you often fight many different layouts in an area, I wonder if this can be improved. -Battle attacks. For the cause of building magic affinity, you use many different spells each battle. I notice that Blowup seems to be your most powerful spell, yet you often use FireG or BoltS first. I wonder if you couldn't use your most powerful spells first, in order to kill some enemies faster. That way, you wouldn't have as many enemy actions, and wouldn't need to heal as often. -Item usage. The cards have a max benefit of +5, but you often only get +4. Since you use several in the same batch, I wonder if varying the order could get you more +5s. I think it'd be worth it to sacrifice an extra frame or two to try and manipulate this.

Acmlm, your latest fm2 desyncs in Fceux 2.1.2 for me right after the first battle. Is there a setting I need to switch? ROM checksum matches.

I hope this one turns out well, because if it does, it means you can be a bad game with unavoidable battles and still be entertaining to watch. Gives me hope for an Inindo: Way of the Ninja run in the future. :)

This desyncs right after the first dungeon in Dega 1.16-Doze, I'll try 1.14. 1.14 works. I was entertained, voted yes.

I dunno, for levels that blocked my progress, Battletoads level 3 is pretty high up there. In contrast, Quick Man is pretty straightforward once you get used to making your movement decisions while the next room is scrolling into view. And the Grand Palace is a bit of a slog, but I never recall having any serious difficulty making it through -- assuming I have some lives to spare. Ninja Gaiden's last stage deserves to be on there, though. It's brutal and long, and penalizes you heavily for dying.
I absolutely agree with Ninja Gaiden's last level before the final boss. There's one specific eagle I can never seem to get past.

Definitely agree with Bubble Bobble as well. The level you're talking about for SMB3 is 6-5, not 6-6. And Battletoads level 3 belongs nowhere near this list. Top 10 most overhyped difficulty, perhaps. EDIT: Some levels I've thought of that might earn a spot on the list: Megaman 2 - Quick Man Battletoads - Rat Race Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link - Grand Palace TMNT - Level 2

I'm curious to know if all the people arguing for one run have never played this game. Seriously. This game is DESIGNED to have seven different stories. This isn't like the later Megaman X games where you are taking a different character through the exact same stages; there are seven distinct plots here. I'm frankly appalled.

I suggested Prophallus because I thought it wasn't immune to instant death attacks, my bad.

You guys have calculated out where 255 Chaz is better than the other run, and worse. It seems like he stops being better right around Air Castle. My question is, is the amount of experience lost by not having Chaz fight bosses from Juza to Lashiec really insurmountable? Seems like you could just take a small detour and kill some LifeDeletrs or something and bulk Chaz up for the bosses afterwards - the first fight will gain him a significant amount of levels. (Or even just a Prophallus right before PD.)

Chrono Trigger, and it's not even close. Not even Rockman 2. Not. Even. Close.

In that case, I'd hope there are enough 'close by' treasure chests with items worth selling that make the fairy quest unnecessary.

In short, improvements to keep in mind for the real run: -Set Ryu's name to blank -Close to zero random encounters -Get more drops off bosses (There are a LOT of Life/Cure/F.Stn drops you could be getting) -Run from the wizard on first encounter instead of autobattling 9 times -Optimize Nina's obtaining Warp/Renew -Money glitch, making the two G.Bars unnecessary (and letting you deathwarp to Auria instead of walking through the cave the second time after Karn?) -Deathwarp in Mogu's dream world -D.Hrt vs Sara Also possibly more equipment to get - there's lots of weapons that do magic when used, not sure if any of them are super useful or not (although I'd bet one or two would be nice when trying to level Nina). Anyway, good luck.

Near the end of the latest WIP, I was surprised Fire dragon wouldn't be faster than bolt against the Flower boss. I also noticed you didn't death warp while in Mogu's dream world, I think it would've been a lot faster than walking back through the skull path.

knbnitkr, if you are making a movie of the same Blue run you already have posted on youtube, I would recommend against it. You might run into an obstacle when asking for publication since you start from known system data.

I think this is fantastic. I'm only curious if a few of the +HP/WP post-battle levelups were necessary, and if not, could they be manipulated away? Also, is there an explanation in English on the Blue TAS? Don't understand how you skipped collecting runes or what happened with the ending.

I have to say, I think if the Rockman 5 run deserves a star from Super Arrow use, this one could easily qualify due to Strike Chain/Crystal Hunter.

Personally, I fast forwarded through the entire thing after Rock Candy was obtained... very boring. Of course, if it's faster than the current publication, I endorse obsoletion!

Sorry, the boss fight I was talking about was Gy-Laguiah. Hewn hits for: 99 95 98 98 89 Wat hits for: 110 99 99 100 103 100 It seems like Wat's a superior choice.
