Thanks for all the explanations. I understand why you did like that in your movie now. Your English is getting better too! A new idea: at 40070 (I think), could you place two bombs? One to blow up the block, and one a little later, to give speed downward when the block is gone. Secret Japanese message: ところで、どこに住んでるの?僕は、仙台。

Ziplock has a Justin Bailey challenge on his site. http://www.nintendorecords.com/games/metroid/metroid.html There's a money reward, too. In case anyone was interested.

Gens has 2xSAI Kreed, one of the same filters available as Snes9x. I think that looks good enough at leas. But aren't the movies encoded without filters anyway? The controller question: depends on how much work it is for you Jyzero. And also, on if Ouzo needs the 6-button controller specific buttons to switch characters. If those were lost with the third byte there wouldn't be any point in doing it. Is there anywhere I can read more about the new Gens format?

Another thing. According to GameFAQs, it is possible to hurt Ridley with a Super Bomb before he becomes visible. I know that you have zero Super Bombs when you fight Ridley in your video, but it could be something to look into. Another faq there states that Draygon (fish boss) isn't damaged by super bombs, but I doublt that. Let me know if my English is too hard to understand.

>I actually went as far as figuring out the game's randomization and how it determined things so that I could make a program that simulates it and shows the results for each frame, allowing me to plan the whole fight in advance and saving a lot of re-records and trouble. You did WHAT? Is it possible to do something like this for the name too, to get all the best stats?

>神乎其技 Oh, good, I wasn't the only one who didn't understand then. It looked like Chinese to me too but didn't make any sense. God-?-that-skill. >anyway, maybe, I finished to make my movie,in 1day~ 2days. What?! How can you make movies of so such high quality and length in only a few days?? Most people here spend weeks for movies half as long as yours. I don't have many ideas for improvement. But here are some at least. * When you fall in a vertical tunnel, don't stay close to the wall. Stay a bit away from it and start moving toward the wall so you just miss the corner. This way you will have more speed when you pass the corner (Difficult to understand maybe... I can try to draw a picture.)
Bad:
*** |****
*** |****
*** |****
*** |****
*** |****
*** \
*** \
*** --

Good:
*** | ****
*** | ****
*** | ****
*** \ ****
*** \****
*** \
*** \
*** --
Examples of this is 33040, 55810, 72100, 72170, 72330, and so on. Almost every place where you fall vertically and go past a corner. * Bladegash said that the Torizou where you get the bombs can be avoided, but only in the European version. Have you tried that? (I am not sure if you needed some other items also to do that. Maybe Bladegash can explain.) * It looks like you could have placed the bomb at 40070 a bit earlier. * You could pick up the hi-jump while being more to the right. * It looks like you could have released your charged shot earlier at 70350 somewhere. At other places you shoot before you trough the door and the shot appears on the next screen, is this possible here? If so you wouldn't have to wait as long to start the speed flying. * Can you be more to the right when you drop to the door at 72760? * It looks like you could hit Phantoon a little earlier each time he opens his eye. * Corridor at 81400, is it possible to take a hit to get thrown across the room? * 88610, why don't you land closer to the door? Do you need the running distance to gain speed? * In the room with the plasma beam, can you shoot at enemies as you fall down so you won't have to fight them for as long afterwards? Or does only the plasma hurt them? Except for the first point, these are very minor things that would only save a few frames at most. Good luck with it!

This game really, really needs a timeattack. Is there no one at all who feels knowledgeable enough to make a try?

What did this movie do to be faster? Previous movies have also jumped off the steam to get a boost. Was this just identical strategy but played more exactly?

I understand that. I mean that if you are allowed to use an extra continue code, there isn't really much stopping you from using a skip level code or any other code. With a level skip you could beat Genisto's movie in a pretty boring and unentertaining way.

I have a question. Is flying faster than running at full speed, or are they equal? I'm asking because there are a lot of spinning platforms which you fly over, running on these as they move right could save some pixels. Unless flying is faster than running of course.

It sound like it could be cool. Are you sure there's absolutely no way to do without the cheat code? That sorts of ruins it, since if you are allowed cheat codes there is one for level skip. (From what I understand from Bisqwit's post, anyway.)

http://tasvideos.org/UsingEmulatorTools.html You are supposed to load your savestate _while the movie is playing back_. If you tried starting recording on your movie (as in choosing record movie and then the same filename as last time), you have probably destroyed your movie. Hope you have a backup. Make lots and lots of backups.

I think I know. http://tasvideos.org/GMV.html The current Gens movie format does not support three players. The players 1-B and 1-C simply aren't saved to the file, only 1 and 2 is. The Snes movie format supports up to 5 players, though. http://tasvideos.org/SMV.html

I think Dan was referring only to obsoleted movies, not accepted ones. When a movie is obsoleted there is always a new movie thread to post in.

I'm guessing this version is not getting published, but I know how you feel. You should probably cancel it if you're making a new version. There is a frame advance feature in the Gens beta by Jyzero.

You hit the wall at 5170 somewhere and lost speed and didn't move forward for a few frames. I'm almost sure this is avoidable, because you can swim upwards above the fish and bullets just before. The pipe entering where you have to turn left for a while also looks strange, I'd look into it more closely. Shouldn't you be able to continue going right while the bullet goes under you, as long as you have more height? Like coming more from the top-left, or something. When you put the key in the hole, is it possible to land earlier? Does the key really have to be that far into the hole? I seem to remember differently, but I could be mistaken, and I don't have any good way of checking it right now. ---- Edit: It seems I was mistaken about the key, judging from the next star road level. Not much to comment on, the only thing I can possibly think of is having max forward speed when you pick up the key, and I guess you already thought of that. I definitely think you should do a new short version when you can. Since you'll have all the levels ready it should be easy to make one for you.

Ok, so now I've tested some more and this is totally driving me nuts. I tried starting the whole level a frame later and replayed it differently all the way up to the block, still the same thing. I even tried hexediting my old jump onto the new version, no difference. It hits all the gaps correctly but still the block is in the same place. I noticed one thing though, if I fumble and miss gap so that I'm delayed a few frames (20:ish maybe), the block starts further away and I can make it trough in time. This is actually faster than doing the gap perfectly and waiting for the block to go away, but it looks like crap. I want to do the gaps good AND slip past the block, damnit. >:/ Based on this I think it's a timing thing (when I get there compared to when the level starts) and not depending on my position on the screen or which buttons I'm pressing (since the old jump gave identical results, but a fumbled jump doesn't). I'm giving up for now, I will have to postpone it to next weekend. Bah.

Alrighty... progress update and a question. So I've finished Ice God's vengeance six seconds faster than last time, due to much better climbing technique, and a shortcut (or bug? I'm not sure which) I found. A lot of jumping and bouncing around, I satisfied with how this level plays. Beneath Twisted Hill also went okay, some slightly different jumps and paths gave me one extra second on the timer. Actually, the timer goes down one second one frame after I touch the flag, but I guess that's just how the game is programmed. I also got some extra points at the end instead of just standing and waiting. Next was Alien Ilse, which gave me the biggest probems last time due to erratic enemy behaviour. This time I got fantastic random in only a few tries on the first two enemies, but couldn't get what I wanted from the last one no matter what I did. So after a few hundred retries I gave up and settled for six seconds. The Land Below was easy. No triple enemy bounce this time though, I noticed it was slightly faster to just land i front of the last enemy and take damage. The last bouce, although giving incredible speed, sends you into the ceiling and hinders forward motion for a while. Now I'm at The Final Marathon (last level before final boss), and I'm sort of stumped. There's a block moving back and forth about ten seconds into the level, which I managed to pass in the last version. Now, I get there too late, even though I'm half a second faster than my previous movie. O_o ??? If I have to wait for the block to move away, I'll be about a second slower than last time. All moving/disappearing blocks have been the same regardless of when you get there previously, as far as I can tell. Only monster behaviour is different. This is a major WTF?! Any ideas? Just replaying more and more of the level? Delaying which frame it starts or something?
