Nifboy: That explains the flag issues. I wondered if you really could have made another miss with running/sliding, since I nagged you about it the last time. :) Having played this game a lot on a real console, the slide up the slope was a clear "WTF?!". That never ever happened to me. Bisqwit: I understand that improvment videos can be judged easier than others, but it's a bit discouraging to learn that anything I produce can be stuck in limbo state in submissions forever, because noone feels like looking at it...

Why did you walk from the flag into the mexico castle? Wouldn't it have been faster to slide? Before scepter, you did the fast switch thing only on the two later blocks. Isn't it possible to do it on the first one too? I remember there was something else I thought of, but I've forgotten and I can't check at the moment. Quite possibly something with the flags. I loved the slides up and down the hills (how the heck does that work anyway?) and the minecart levels. The tiger boss was also sort of cool. As was sliding all across the disappearing blocks. All in all it's an obvious YES. ---- Sidenote: I wonder why this movie got past the queue. There are plenty of Genesis movies submitted before this one. Bisqwit?

Okay, this will be my third post in a row (no one seems to care a lot) but anyway here goes: I finished the preliminary yesterday with a time of 10:31. This is improvable by a lot. Anyone interested can mail me to see it, con_carnage at hotmail dot com. If someone's feeling like providing webspace that would be great. Anyway, the rest of the run: I didn't succeed in performing the teleport-through-wall bug in the third ruin stage, no matter how I tried. The level starts exactly the same as the first ruin stage but has a different ending, so I don't know why. It could be that the flame above isn't all the way out when the level starts. (can this be manipulated in some way? Don't know yet.) I managed to skip most of the second half of the level, and go directly to the boss, by bouncing off a bat. Clone taz was easy. Perhaps this trick works in the first version off this level too, I will see in the complete run. It depends a bit on the behaviour of the end sign. The last boss fight turns out (as I expected) to be a sleeping pill since the boss bird can only be hurt at certain (very long) intervals. Still, it can be speeded up a little by hurting him as quick as possible every time he comes onto the screen. I didn't do this now, but I might have an idea on how to do it. Over and out.

>The official Gens community doesn't give a damn about it. I'm tired of doing it unofficial. If a new official version of Gens get out, I would have to redo everything. That's some pretty serious suckage. I can understand that would kill your enthusiasm for coding something. Is there anything we can do about it? Does it help if 30 gamers (don't know how many we are here) complain to the official coders and say they do want movie support in Gens?

Will watch as soon as possible. I assume you also slide trough the green boxes now, even though you didn't list it?

Would you like some more ideas to put your programming efforts to? - On-screen frame counter. MM:SS:FF. Put it next to the red circle. I want to be able to choose which corner (games have status bars in different places). - Allow slowmode button while replaying video. - Better font for info, preferably two-color. This one is impossible to read with some backgrounds. - Autofire. Preferably autofire B can be mapped to a different button than ordinary B, so you don't have to mess with the options all the time. How's the AVI support coming?

Progress: After beating that irritating second water level in a fairly slow and unimpressive way (will have to be improved) I at least found a way to continually stomp on the giant plant, which looks cool. I also found a way to skip a few jumps by bouncing on two bats in the first ruins. They were unexpectedly hard to pull off, requiring me to play at 6% speed (basically frame by frame). Anyway, the best thing is that in the second ruin stage I found a killer glitch which lets me travel trough a wall and skip most of the first part. I have no idea how it works, but if you hold right and press spin exactly when the level starts (which is before the screen fades in) you are hurt (by the flame above?), the screen flickers, and seconds later you appear to the right of the first building. It's almost Rockmanish. Research will follow, rest assured. Anyone who knows anything about this is most welcome to share. It's just another ruin stage (with taz clone boss) and the final boss after this, I think. The final boss will probably be difficult to do fast, since he's outside the screen most of the time. xou, are you still around? Would you be willing to put up the preliminary run so everybody can give critizism? I'll e-mail you.

There is both a "continue recording from here" and "continue recording from savestate" options. Either one should work. Make a backup first.

I see. Thanks for the heads-up. While I have your attention; I have written a short compilation of Kid Chameleon tricks and bugs. Even though there is no accepted KC submission at the moment would this be interesting to have as a separate page? If not I'll just put it on my presentation page.

I might be going crazy, but I've been looking for the edit button for my page (http://tasvideos.org/Truncated.html) for five minutes now and I absolutely can't find it. Am I blind/stupid or is something wrong? I can swear there was one yesterday. Sorry to bother everyone with this, I couldn't find a better way. Edit: And before anyone asks, of course I am logged in.

I've been meaning to suggest this for a while: when a new movie is published, wouldn't it be dandy if there was a link somewhere in the header leading to the submission? Maybe with the caption "Author's comments (registered users only)" or something. At the moment it is rather impractical to find the corresponding submission. (edit: grammar)

The minecart is evil, but the second floating logs level is EVILER, because in hard you die directly when you fall into the water. :( In easy you can speed trough the level by jumping into the water and bouncing up all the time. Needless to say, I never got any further than that on hard... Anyway, on to the time attack (and beyond).

I've just started working on this game, hard mode. I'm doing a preliminary run to work out the game dynamics and routes, and I'm about half-way trough. After that I will make the real run. The main idea will probably be to use the spin constantly, where possible. You can do a very small jump with the spin, which helps to jump over some gaps without stopping the spin and doing an ordinary jump. The ice level can be done in a very fun way with this trick. In the first factory level there is a shortcut through the floor after the ovens. On the second one I will take damage instead of using the levers on line 1 (taz blinks long enough to go trough 2 also) and 4. I'm not sure if skipping 3 instead of 4 is faster. There might be some trick with the turkeys too which could give enough health to skip all lines. Another thing I will do is to shortcut up the tree by stomping the little rats (?). If anyone knows some way of getting past the first rat without getting hit I'm listening eagerly. Any ideas, known bugs or tips are very welcome.

It'll probably be done this evening. If I don't get it done now, it won't be done for another month, since I'm going abroad. Thanks for the offer. I don't know how I'll do it yet, we'll see...

This is an erroneous assumption on your part. Not everyone who downloads these movies obviously come here and sees the why-how pages, I have seen these videos being swapped on DC++ too. This is why we need a disclaimer.

So I guess they are four in total now.

I've beaten Toki. :D Battletoads has already been mentioned, but how about DooM II in nightmare difficulty? Thats one incredibly insane difficult game. You have unlimited lives, but if you die you lose your weapons, so practically you only have one. I think only two people have ever gotten through it.

There, I had some free time again and redid half of Beneath Twisted Hills, and managed to squeeze out a total of 4 seconds compared to nifboy's run. Also I managed to cram in a nice trick at the end with the timer still intact even though it was probably a load of frames slower. I also did a preliminary time on Alien Isle with slightly better results. I exit one second earlier than nifboy, but it's not really a fair comparison since I skip destroying the robot at the end and take a hit. Taking this into account I'm still a few seconds behind, but not by as much as before. I'll try to redo the end of the level today. I have an idea for the next level, The Land Below (I think that's its name) too, but I'll test if it works first.

But if it's referenced on the orphans page, it isn't really an orphan... </deep thought>

>"Warning: This is an imperfect run of the game. It's full of mistakes and the game could be completed much faster than this." Actually, I have seen a video with this kind of warning (Super Mario World). It was something along the lines of "We realize that this run could have been faster - even by seconds - WE DON'T CARE"

Okay, I watched it. Thanks for showing us. I am at a different computer than from the one I watched it at, but here is what I remember: - I think you can start to blast the starfish rings before they appear fully. I don't think you did this every time. - Before you start to slide on the ice, isn't it possible to have more horizontal speed in the upwards jump? - The ending of the shark level was cool. :) Are you trying to swim in as a straight line as possible? I think the turns cost you some time. Just like when you avoid the jellyfish in level 1 - looks cool, but probably it would be faster if you could go straighter. - Are you skipping the upgrades on purpose? I guess you are, but I think the death sonar is pretty essential on the last few levels. Perhaps you can gain it some other way later? I don't quite remember this. I also don't remember what the second upgrade is. That's what I can think of at the moment...
