where i got it - http://www.rom ... (snip)
That's not supposed to be there, is it?[/quote]

This (if true) could be a glitch in the AVI, or the game really does work like that. You can download the file which contains the keypresses and play it in your own emulator. Since this file can not contain saved states, only keypad presses, the thing which you are describing cannot happen. Perhaps you didn't know, but all videos on this site are made with savestates and slowmotion. But the finished result which you see is always how the game really works. There are no video or game edits. Tricky? Read more: http://tasvideos.org/WhyAndHow.html

I have some suggestions and things I'd like to point out too: - The font is a different size depending on browser (i.e larger in Opera than in IE, at least for me). All in all I think a smaller font wouldn't hurt. - Lose the thumbnails. They are cluttering the top and it's very difficult to find the movie one is looking for there anyway. Just list the titles in alphabetic order. When viewing a specific movie a single thumbnail seems superfluous. - The large pictures could be scaled down and still be clear enough. Should reduce traffic too. - The switching between Japanese and English titles is cumbersome. Most people I would think does not know the japanese title for different games. I don't see an easy solution for this problem though. About the new design: - Most people come here for the movies. Previously the movies was zero clicks away from the front page, now they are two clicks away. Also, since movies are what people are here for there is no sense in listing them very last to the left. - The left panel sucks a lot of space, especially on the long pages. The previous menu was good in this aspect (fixed box in the upper corner). - Always list best movie first. For example, the slower Sylpha movie is listed before the Alucard one. - There is no "new movies" list like there was before. That was very practical. Small error: - Linnom's Batman movie is listed as "Takes no damage", but it does take damage (third boss, I think). I know, everyone's suddenly an expert when they don't have to do it themselves...

Can we get to see what you have done so far? The preview of the first two levels were very interesting.

I will try a fresh start on that level since I'm not completely satisfied with the undercaves of Beneath Twisted Hills either. Mostly it's that stair with the P-blocks and hidden cannon blocks, but there are other spots which could I could have done better too. Mostly the alien ships just linger on top of the next column, but when they do have the courtesy to stop by, they usually swoop across the top of the screen so it's impossible to jump on them. I must have downed at least 300 rerecords on that part already, that's why I'm a little upset. :/ But I will try waiting and different timing. Even though this is an higly irritating and difficult level when playing normally, Bloody Swamp has to be the worst. Played it? If not try a few lives without slowdown or savestates. :)

It's quite likely that I made a mistake with that blob. When I came at him in full speed, he didn't appear before I was past him, but maybe I could have slowed down less and still catched him. Anyway, I hated that idiotic Alien Isle level when I played this game before and it's just as or maybe more irritating now. I was one or more seconds ahead of you because I jumped the stairs faster but then those f***ing alien ships just didn't want to show up in the right places. Whenever I need to jump on top of them to get between the pillars they are nowhere to be found but as soon as I jump up a wall you can bet your only spare micromax hitpoint that they zoom there in seconds and start shooting. This means I actually finish the level a few seconds slower than you. ARRGH!! Nifboy, have you got any tips? How did you get the ships where you wanted them to be? Luck?

I have identified one mistake in BLW2, where I jump a slope in an unfavourable way, but I guess that is not what you had in mind. Is it the first enemy or some later one? I fall on the first one on purpose since falling is faster than jumping. I might very well have made some mistakes, since those early levels were my first attempt at speed running ever. Also I learned the game mechanics more and more when I played at slow speed. Which enemy in HWP1, the first blue blob? Stop being so cryptic and help me out! :P Thanks for the praise anyhow. Though I actually owe a lot of the micromax tricks to you.

Could you add my Kid Chameleon run to the in progress list, please? Thanks. http://perso.wanadoo.fr/humpf/runs/KidChameleon-uptoBTH-byTruncated.zip Hosted by my hero xou.

xou (thanks a lot!) has been as kind as to host the run in it's present state, which is up to Beneath Twisted Hills (the fifth last level). It's currently about 11 mins long and should work with the same ROM as nifboy's run. I'll post the new times later, here it is: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/humpf/runs/KidChameleon-uptoBTH-byTruncated.zip And well, it's not exactly people hauling ass in this game, it seems it's just me. Maybe people have taken a summer break?

Obviously there´s not a lot of interest in discussing paths, so I´ll just list the improvement made at this moment, compared to Nifboy´s run: Woods of Despair 1: 3 sec SLOWER (due to not having cyclone) Woods of Despair 2: 1 sec SLOWER (due to exiting through teleport) Forced Entry and Hills of Illusion traded for Valley of Life and Black Pit: 38 seconds faster (!) Lion Hills: 3 seconds faster Wind Castle 1: 3 seconds faster Wind Castle 2: 4 seconds faster Blizzard Mountain: 2 seconds faster Caves of Ice: 3 seconds faster Nightmare Peaks 1: 3 seconds faster Nightmare Peaks 2: 6 seconds faster Bagel Brothers: 7 seconds faster Currently at Diamond Edge using Skycutter. There are a lot of exits here and most levels after this one also has multiple exits. I have tried making a map but there are so many levels and different routes that it will take some scouting before continuing the run itself. My idea is to go as quickly as possible to Secrets in the Rocks and from there to Ice God´s Vengeance. After that the game is pretty linear again. As always, any ideas are welcome. And if anyone´s willing to host the run (only 80 kb) so everybody can see, or just want to see it for themselves, mail me at con_carnage at spaminfestedhotmailaccount dot com.

I can recommend Bio-Hazard Battle. It's two-player and use of the combined option/shield can be very funny. Don't know how interesting it would be for a timeattack though.

>For example in my Rygar run at the end of the spider cave there's a section of the cave where there are lots of flying monsters and gaps and you have to jump a lot while not getting hit by the monsters. It took me tons of time and rerecords to get it like you see in the video, but it doesn't really look all that difficult. I thought that part was cool. I think "that's never gonna work" every time at a certain spot where you jump under a flying monster.

Ok, I redid Highwater pass 1 and managed to get six seconds faster there, and probably i squeezed an extra second out of HWP2 too. Now I'm up to Woods of Despair 2 with Red Stealth. Possible options: -Shortcut with Red Stealth through blocks (faster on this level) -Take Skycutter and go long way through level (slower on this level, but possibly faster on the next ones) Exits: -Flag to Forced Entry, Cliffs of Illusion, Lion's Den -Teleport to Valley of Life, The Black Pit, Lion's Den I'm thinking about picking Skycutter and taking the teleport. Valley of Life can be done quite quick with Skycutter, as can Black Pit. Then I have skycutter for Lion's Den and Wind Castle 1, which should improve things. An alternative could be to take the shortcut with Red Stealth and run Valley of Life with him, I can pick up Skycutter at Black Pit too... Thougts, anyone?

Shite ita ka? (Well, we should probably stick to English in these forums, but you have my email if you feel like chatting some in Japanese.) It seems there are plenty of Japanese language students among us video game nerds. :)

I did it the way I did because I wanted to analyze the moves, how much damage they did and when they were good to use, not only list them. Anyone could do that. I guess I could have done a resume at the end or start, but it seemed clear enough anyway. Maybe an idea if I make an update though.

It's cool that different people discover the same tricks independently. I really liked the Bear fight, that and how you smashed the Jets was TEH BETS!!!1 I was thinking of running this game myself but now I just don't see any good reason to do so.

Yeah, I do that one (jumping on top to get helmet) in HPW1, but I found another one. On the first part with rubber blocks, you can jump up in one bounce. I do it in two now, you did it in several. I was unclear about HWP2. It's three seconds faster up to the point where we go different ways (under the teleporter). I exit the level more than three seconds before you. It is as you suspected due to dropping the samurai and instead gaining speed from jumping on both hands in the start. Finding a good path is probably what will take the most time in this game... ideas are very welcome.

Just letting you and everybody else know that I've started a run on this game. Compared to your times, I got: Blue Lake 1: 1 sec faster Blue Lake 2: same time Highwater 1: 4 sec faster Highwater 2: 3 sec faster (up to the teleporter, where our paths diverge) I don't know why I got the same time in BLW2. I know I made an improvement in the start of the level, either i flubbed later in the level, or it wasn't enough to give a full second on the timer, or the enemies are in different spots because I got there earlier so I can't get it faster anyway. I found another trick in HWP1 too which could save 2-3 seconds, but I have to redo everything afterwards... I decided to use the warp in Under Skull Mountain anyway, and take damage anywhere it's faster. I don't have any webspace, otherwise I'd let you see.

Very very good. There where some times I got the feeling it could have been done faster (probably you tried, but anyway): 1) You often punch after doing elbow down, before you grab. Why not grab directly? 2) You sometimes jumped left with the atomic drop instead of right, when there was no visible reason. (at least to me) In any case, this has convinced me fully that Max is the fastest character. The crowd control is superb with the drops. You used some of the "only get one boss", did you get them from my faq? :) (insert plug)
