There are quite some mistakes in that one, but perhaps it was just for later reference? It is faster if you jump up every hill, and not walk on the rubber, and not do the flip move when it's not needed. I'll see if I can whip anything up.

Thanks for the help but, hm. You used the USA version, didn't you? I only have the Japan version. It will take some time before I can watch it.

According to GameFaqs, there is. I've never heard of it, but it could be so.

Browny is almost without unquestionably the best character for a speedrun. His yo-yo, if utilized correctly, can take out most bosses in only a few seconds. Even if he doesn't have as good homing weapons for the tevel enemies it shouldn't make much difference. I'd like to watch it, but I've lost where the modified Gens is. And I'm lazy. Anyone care to help?

That's nice to hear. I will be looking forward to it. If you have tried levels 1 and 8, I assume you take the warp in the first level?

>As I recall (it's been some time since I last played) there are a number of levels that don't have the normal end-flag on them; you have to use a warp to get to a new level. Granted, I don't know if any are on the "main" path: perhaps I just couldn't find the flags on those levels. Now, that's possible of course. I don't remember all too clearly. I thought you were talking about those multi-level-skipping cheats. It's better to use the teleports now and then, definitely saves time. Would be more interesting to watch optimization of a route too. You mean you never got through this game without a game genie? Neener neener :P

Just throwing out this idea. Has a time attack for this game been considered? It could be completed resonably quick, it's sort of hard, and there are a lot of cool jumps to show off on. What does the inhabitants think? Would it be interesting?

>I'm not sure if Kid Chameleon can be done without warps. What's that supposed to mean? Of course it can. >I know there is (theoretically) a way to warp straight to the final boss from the second level, but I never could do it (it wouldn't be impressive, either). Effective use of the other warps would be very impressive, though. Never heard of that warp. It's listed on GameFaqs but that doesn't necessarily mean it's legit. There's a warp on the fifth-sixth level somewhere which takes you to right after the second boss though which I know works. As for the other games, Sonic, Contra and Shinobi seems to be very best choices. Even though I love Streets of rage (wrote faqs for all of them) I fear a time attack will be pretty repetitive. After you figure out what move has most damage, you tend to use that constantly. I will happily be proven wrong though. :) I will also add Alien Soldier. Treasure shoot-em-up, all bosses and almost no levels. Has a teleport move which could be very useful and interesting.

I wouldn't mind seeing Solomons Key, Level 13, where he makes block while jumping straight up, and stands between the dragon and the flame once or twice.

Hm, am I blind or did this speedrun accidentally get deleted when Chip & Dale 2 was added?

I'm not sure how the flagpole works (maybe it's a set time no matter what), but the movie already avoids explosions, as obvious in level 8-3.

Hmm, did this time attack focus on points too? There are some things you could improve: Fire as you start every level. Gives 1,000 points each. I'm not sure if you can hit the bosses with this. Probably not. You missed one target on the "Shoot the targets"-level, around 17 minutes in. There are plenty of boats and turrets in your way which you didn't shoot. Retrieving people gives extra points. It's more profitable to let the enemy boats take the people first, shoot them and then take them back than to just shoot the boats.

Most probably. You are using the same emulator and the same version, after all.

Are you sure? As I said earlier, TMNT 1 crashed for me at the exact same spot in Nesticle. This points to faulty ROMs more than emulator problems, but it's not 100% of course.

Possibly. You can always test. I have also experienced the same problem you described, but on a different emulator, so it's probably the ROM.

Nope, nothing is hacked. If you have an emulator, you can download the fmv file (the keypresses), which you can play back with your own emu with your own rom. You don't take damage from your own bombs in zelda 1.

It can be that way when you don't know the levels, and don't know what tricks to expect. Especially in the rocket jumps, the screen goes all red and it's very hard to keep track of where the player went if you don't know where he's supposed to go. You can try watching non-TAS demos first to get the hang of it, they are naturally a bit slower.

I think you should start a new thread about this in the forum "NES Games" instead. People will be able to see and answer your questions better there.

I should mention that there are nightmare runs for Doom without any tools at all. Those are incredible. 8) I can barely finish three levels on nightmare, and I have been playing Doom a LOT. ---- Not like anyone cares, but the 14:41 guy makes a 1-second mistake in The Focus. I saw some other things too but I'm not as sure those were mistakes as that one. :) A lot has happened on the Doom scene since I last checked it seems - this video has a lot of rocket jumps, I only knew about the one in level 3.

Well, the movies could be coded audio and video separately. Audio 60 fps and sound from the 20 fps version. More work, though... Anyway, I think this is incredible. I haven't seen anyone hacking executables byte by byte, ever. Hat's off for blip.

Josh the FunkDOC! I remember you, but you might not remember me. You sent in tips for my Streets of Rage 2 FAQ a long time ago. You didn't seem to think fighters were the worst genre then, though.

>I think I'm starting to get it. It look like it's when you land just as the whip disappears, but Simon is still holding his hand out. Is this what you were thinking? Even if you figured it out, it would still be very difficult to pull off when needed. But I would really love to see a new Castlevania 2 video with these bugs used.

Thanks for explaining. I understand a little better how it works now. I don't think that the upload is soaking up my bandwidth is the problem. Fun fact: 1300 meg of the new Zelda video has been downloaded from me. The upload rate spiked at 440 kiB/s. o_O I'd like to auto-seed too, but I cannot understand the instructions fully. I don't know with what to run the script available. I could google after the file mentioned I guess. Perhaps tomorrow when it's not 2 o'clock in the middle of the night anymore.

I didn't quite know where to put this question. Feel free to move it if appropriate. When I download movies from Bisqwit's site, my upload speed is many times greater than my download speed. For example, I downloaded the new Solstice video yesterday. My download speed was 0-3 KiB/s (sometimes halted completely), while my upload speed was about 40 KiB/s. This meant that downloading a 17 Meg file took forever, of course. And when it was completed, I had uploaded over 100 Meg or something. There were plenty of other downloaders. Does anyone have any idea why this happens? Is it common for others to have bigger bandwith for downloading than for uploading? Does Bittorrent always share the beginning of the file so that everyone has the same portions and noone but the server can send the others? (Don't get me wrong now, I have nothing against uploading. I'm not using the bandwidth anyway. I'd just want to know what's keeping me from getting files faster.)
