Here is a small suggestion. In the current subpage module, the page delimiter is a comma followed by a space. You can see how this looks currently at the GameResources page: http://tasvideos.org/GameResources.html In my opinion, it is pretty cluttered and hard to find what you want. My suggestion is to change the page delimiter to a line break instead. Ilari was kind enough to make a test of what it would look like if that was implemented. Link to huge screenshot: http://img808.imageshack.us/img808/9872/gameresourceslinebreaks.png What do you think, is this better?

WST, haven't tested in Wine, but I get this problem all the time for different key combinations, and I know that many others do too. Try reassigning your keys. In particular, try assigning the frame advance button to the shift key, most keyboards allow the shift key together with any key.

I am disappoint. According to my calculations there could have been at least a 33% better rack.

ComicalFlop: there are two movement commands: - Move, which ignores enemies - Attack, which attacks enemies and structures along the way. A run without a movement command would be meaningless, but it seems that there is both Move and Attack in the N64 version. The gamespeed doesn't (or shouldn't) affect the internal timing of the missions.

Thanks for trying Twelvepack. At least I know it's just not me then. At least Tiger's total level time is still there to compare with.

So, it's been almost two years, and I figured I'd test this out. I cannot get Tiger's movie to sync. It seems to go awry when the SCV starts talking, the dialogue window is open for a pretty long time. I have deleted the .fla save file before starting. Any other ideas?

As I said earlier, I don't mind the .tas extension. Feel free to keep it or change it to something else, if people prefer that.

I don't mind the .tas extension personally. I don't feel like starting a debate about that. Anyway, I certainly don't make any demands about the naming or claim that the community has any right to decide the name of this emulator. It is a polite request to reconsider it in light of new info, that's all. When the name Starhawk (or *hawk) was suggested, as I understood it, the issue was that the name was already taken. As it turns out, BizHawk is taken too, and by a spam firm at that.

That was just insane to watch. Aside from the extra speed tricks, the overall precision is very evident throughout the entire run. Just one question: can Wolverine's regen be manipulated to happen almost at will or is it on a global timer? I seem to recall having the regen give me yellow health when I used to play the game as a kid.
I think you are misremembering. I don't have any proof, but I have only ever seen Wolverine regenerate health when he is down to flashing healt (1 or 2 bars). Health regeneration does not happen when above this. I am not sure when the regen kicks in when you are in flashing health, it seems to come at random. Since being in low health is very unuseful as Wolverine, we didn't investigate it further.

This has already been brought up (here: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12520 ), but I think it deserves its own topic. Today I googled BizHawk. It appears that is already the name of some kind of email marketing (spam?) firm: http://www.bizhawk.com/ and a business convention of some sort: http://www.facebook.com/bizhawk Because of this, and because I don't see what "biz" has to do with emulators (it is usually short for "business"), I would ask the developers to please reconsider renaming the emulator. It would be sad to see it mixed up with some spam firm or business convention, and a unique name makes it easier for people to find. Can we agree on that much? All in favor say Aye. If you (developers) want suggestions for a new name, I am sure that could be supplied by the community. Feel free to post below. Names ending in/related to hawks are preferred, to not change the icon and derivates such as NesHawk etc.

Making HD. Genesis TAS of the year. Waiting for P-Magnetto version.
Thanks again Feos! A version with the secret clone Magneto boss will probably not be done anytime soon, since I'lll be gone for a month in a week from now. I'll see what I can do after that. I like the third screenshot best. Also: lol anonymous no vote.

That was nuts! The speedier movement of Nightcrawler was awesome to see, and things looked quite smooth. Does the use of the second player in the last stage speed anything up, or is it only for entertainment? (If it costs a little time, I'm cool with the speed-entertainment tradeoff.) Yes vote. Congrats on a big improvement of an old movie!
Yes, using two players during the bug fight saves around 100 frames, if I remember correctly. The increased invulnerability time when dealing hits in two player mode makes it possible to start attacking earlier without taking damage. I will update the comments later today to include this. Thanks for watching, and nice to hear that you enjoyed it!

Generally, you just need to turn around and go left just as you touch the spawn point, and enemies will spawn one at a time. Do you really want to do this, though? More jets, more fun! By the way, the jets land from throws. Most people never see this since the battle with them is very jump kick-focused.

Did you run the prereq installer?
Nope! Did not know there was such a thing. I changed the BizHawk page here to put that download link first, with a short comment. I have gotten it running now. I tried out the SMS core a bit. - I cannot assign frame advance to the right shift button. Is this intended? It's very helpful for keyboards that do not accept a lot of buttons at the same time. - When saving a named savestate from disk via hotkey, the game's sound goes in a short choppy loop. (This does not happen if loading a named state, or saving a named state via the menues.)

So in other words, it seems to be a platformer. I vote yes!

Nice. I loved Tyrian, so it would be cool to see a TAS. I think you should go for max % destroyed. For this, you obviously need a lot of firepower. In the first level, the first enemy holds a power-up, but it only leaves it if it is destroyed after it has turned around at the bottom of the screen. I am not sure, but I have a vague memory that it is possible to restart the level and get this upgrade again. I think you can also focus your firepower forward by switching the mode of your rear weapon. The default key for this is Enter.

Maps for the three last levels might be helpful. That's where we are at the moment. (Well, actually at the elevator, but no map is needed there.) So blue base, green base, and last level. I think we will submit a movie which aims to finish the game as quickly as possible, but it's possible to make different version of the last level, sure.

Many thanks for this, feos! The position pixel and subpixel values are very helpful. Since I'm conservative I updated it to be more like the script I already had :) If anyone's interested, it's available here: http://pastebin.com/2cyVePEh

Here's the script we're using: http://pastebin.com/MxbnpUj6 You'll notice that it's a bad hack of a script for Chuck Rock 2 (which in turn is a hack of a script for Ranger-X...) with the memory addresses changed. A problem is that I haven't found an address which contains the x and y of the character which works for every level. It changes, which I can't remember seeing in any other game. If you have better luck, let me know. I have a .wch file too, but it's not what you're looking for, it just has enemy HP values.

I think it looks good. Saving seconds isn't that important for a run like this, in my opinion. It's more important to show interesting combos, use all attacks and weapons (grenade!) and bugs, and be reasonably fast. Speaking of which, my FAQ on GameFAQs has some info you might be interested in, how some of the bugs in this game works.

lol, I doubt it's that simple, you must be sarcastic...
Your sarcasm detector is working. Warp did not give an intelligent answer. In an FPS game, traditionally, the whole level is loaded into memory. Depending on the player's location and direction, the game engine decides what the player sees, and draws those objects on the screen. This article has some info on how a simple engine, the Doom engine, chooses what to draw on the screen: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doom_engine In more recent games there are probably mechanisms for unloading parts of the world which are distant and loading parts which are close. For example, I doubt that GTA4 keeps the whole city in memory.

Anyway, the problem with typical thinking about the friend zone is that it assumes that if the guy had only done things differently, the gal would naturally end up falling for him; it denies the essential agency of women.
Does she fall for other guys, who do things differently? Probably. Why wouldn't she fall for you, if you did the same things? I think she would. Sure, some other things can affect attraction, for example looks. It is my opinion that looks have less influence on attraction than for example attitiude and behaviour. It works just as well with the roles reversed, by the way. It isn't about how women are.
