I had a post written here, but forgot to press Submit. :/ But you went with Warcraft 1 like I was going to suggest anyway, so I guess that's OK. I know one trick in one of the human (I think?) dungeon levels, there is a way to kill the boss from across a wall which ends the level. Also I know that the pathing is pretty bad. Will you start a topic in the DOS forum?

I just read through the SRT file, didn't want to spend 3 hours watching it again. > Hawk: To defeat the enemy, and to protect Jessica, I ought to come back here. Jessica, where you are, however, please be safe. Ought sounds weak. Must? The second sentence sounds weird, and checking the original, it seems to be something like "Jessica, until then, try to stay safe in some way" > But at this time, Hawk would not know ... Sounds weird. Did not know? > This Sword currently lies in the root of the Mana Tree. This sword. >Fairy is now interested and asks him to join. Fairy is not interested? >Anyway, it turns out Bigieu took control of everyone, and have a summoned demon kill everyone who defied her. Verb agreement. Either had-defied or have-defy. Probably the former is better. >Use something to raise Attack (Kevin) >Anyway, use some stuff to raise attack. Something = Drake's scale >And now Luna, the Moon Spirit. He turns Lugar into a baby, so that he can eventually fight Kevin again. OK. Luna is a she. >The Elf King says how to find the Wood Mana Spirit. So off we go. I am not a native speaker, but using "says" in this context sounds strange. "tells them" or "explains"? >427: ??????? Molebear's claw. It gives earth-type damage, which air-type enemies are weak to. >Now that the Dark Prince became the Archdemon Has become? OK that was all. I assume you actually know what Papa Poto's claw does and are just joking there. PUBLISH!

This was marvelous. :D

The one that stood out to me was around 32:35 in the encode, but then you are under water so the different maximum velocity might be what's fooling me.

I am interested in running this. It's been on my list for a long time. I think there are a lot of improvements, the run is old and didn't have memory watch. since there are a lot of different methods of movement, this can mean big improvements over the length of the game. I am not interested in doing it alone, though. anyone want to team up?

I like extremely few rap songs. Weak riffs, monotone sounds. The song AngerFist posted is a good example of this. Sorry Mr Fist. :/ Here is one which is good in instrumental version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dHi2xIuXx4 Another one I like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXzg0D-cKds - The original is awful though. I thought this had a good riff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFK6H_CcuX8 - but then I realized Stevie Wonder wrote the original, which is even better. Edit: Fixed link, thanks for the heads up IronSlayer.

Hey Mlandry! I do get the same feeling sometimes. Nostalgic when an old post comes up somehow. But isn't this whole site pretty much about nostalgia anyway? About those two games, if you want to see them so bad, why not take a stab at it? Right. TAS vs Speedrunning community war. You have all missed the best part: Thread #990: Has anyone else seen this insane crap? - Has anyone else seen this insane crap? Legion's post on page 3 titled "Da Metroid" is vital, but has been eaten by the q?u?e?s?t?i?o?n?m?a?r?k monster. The site referenced has since been taken down. Internet wayback machine to the rescue! You can use the links on the top right to navigate to the other pages even though the pictures are missing. I like bisqwithitler.php the best. Well, I'm gonna go back to making fake and cheated video edits (FCVE for short) now.

With regards to the Star Wars prequels, I very much recommend watching these reviews by Harry Plinkett that explain in very great detail what is wrong with them as movies per se, as well as Star Wars movies. Actually regardless of what you think of them or if you have even watched them, this is one of the most hysterically funny video reviews I've ever seen. The character is so well-done, the editing is excellent, and how he rags on the most inane things is very clever even if the language he uses is deliberately low-brow.
I loved these. Thank you.

First of all, congratulations to Team 2 for making a worthy winning submission! You guys did great. :) A clarification: Team 2 technically won by walk-over, since team 1 did not submit on time. The final submission time was then delayed 24 hours. This information was previously in the first post. Another clarification, FatRatKnight and pirate_sepiroth were in the winning team DTC3, but the rest of the team was different. Last time NitroGenesis and micro500 were in their team, this year Tompa and MESHUGGAH were in it. --------------- Some thoughts on the game and selection process: I think the rules have been different every single DTC so far. Letting the public choose a game was new for this contest. I am neither particularly for or against this method. Improvement of an existing movie was also new. The rule in previous competitions has been to only select largely unexplored games without any published movies or submissions. This ensures several things: It decreases the chance that someone in a team has a lot of experience with a game already. It means there are more tricks yet to find, which makes the competition more about exploring. It ensures movies look will look varied and not be frame wars. Improving an existing movie or one where there has been significant attempts before also means that the bar is set higher. The best wip, that of Aglar, had probably (I'm guessing) significantly more work than three weeks put in it. For these reasons I think there is a good reason to keep the rule of only new games for future competitions. In the case of Rockin' Kats, the game is fun to watch and play, but as can be seen in the topic for the game, notoriously aggravating and boring to tas. The primary reason for this is lag management. Aglar, Randil, Sonikkustar and AnS have all tried and given up on this game. Like Baxter said, there are many people who want to see an improved version, but not that many people willing to do it. The game is very lag-heavy. Lag is the least fun aspect of tasing for me (and for several others too, I guess). Managing lag is almost like anti-tasing. When tasing, you try to explore a game and figure out, through logic and innovation, how the game works and what the best solution to a given situation is. When managing lag, you do mostly random actions until the lag decreases. Enough talking from me now. I would be very interested to hear how the other contest participants feel and what your experiences were. Also technical details about the game and any scripts you wrote would probably be of interest. Brandon posted our lua script in the Rockin' Kats topic, guess it doesn't hurt to have it here as well: linky

I enjoyed this movie! I vote yes. Comparing with the old movie, it seems that the trick where you take damage at the same time as exiting a room and cause the health to wrap to full again is also new. Perhaps you could add it to the description? (This comment was originally posted in the wrong thread.)

Reading up on the halting problem in the link Bisqwit posted earlier, it seems that the halting problem is only undeciable on Turing machines with infinite memory. The NES, of course, does not have infinite memory, so the halting problem is actually decidable.

Hey, maybe I'm too traditional, but I think it's a bad idea to have the same nickname as a famous person. I suggest that you change it before this is published.

Even though a tie is unlikely I think there should be a rule for it (for future DTC's if nothing else). Here is a suggestion of how it could look: - The tied teams split the first place in DTC. - Both movies are submitted. A time limit of 1 week is set. The viewers vote for which movie they like better esthetically. Yes is +1 point, No is -1 point, Meh is 0 points. The viewers' votes must be respected.

I regret not standing up for new users when they are being picked on by the mob. Not being motivated to finish runs is not something I regret.

Second half of 1997. Like many others here it seems, it was Nesticle. I remember Tennis being a favourite at our school.

I remember seeing a side-view 2D game for the Amiga where you controlled a bouncing ball. The only thing you could control was which direction the ball would rotate and how fast, and the ball would then bounce from the scenery. I do not remember what the goal was. Surely this same idea has been used in countless games on many platforms, but it would be nice to see the original Amiga one.
Aw, damn. I have also played this game briefly, but the reason it stuck in my head was that a friend of mine made a clone of it for PC in Pascal back in 1996. Sadly I cannot remember the name either. If it means a lot to you I could try to get hold of this friend (via facebook or something) and ask him?

First of all, even though it was a few pages ago,
I agree with Warp.
Next, Youtube won't show more than 50 recent videos, and has no way to mark them as "watched" without opening them and watching for a while. Aggravating. Imagine if your email inbox worked like that. Also, imperial units are annoying.

Thanks antd for the very quick encode! mklip2001> Couldn't you also skip the first stage, by delaying when you leave the title screen? I vaguely recall somebody saying that was possible. We jump ahead a short bit in the first stage, but it's not possible to skip all of it. If anyone found that, it would have been Aqfaq, and he improved many of the early levels several times. The game is pretty hex-edit friendly. >Also, really nice job with the final boss. Yes vote. You can thank Sonikkustar for the last boss. :) Jungon> I almost voted Meh for you guys not eat a bomb, but instead, voted Yes, it's a fast game, mostly known by its bad sfx that can be humorous (when not annoying) >.> I apologize for this run's lack of bomb-eating. Needing to set up the warp for the next stage decreases the possibility to play around at the end of the stages. Spinal> Is the warping glitch possible in the SNES version? I haven't tried, perhaps I should... I checked now, the SNES Taz mania is a completely different game about running on a road and eating birds.

I finished up the second temple level, 6 frames gained. I also did the clone boss. The last hit has to be remade though because I hugged the wrong wall for the next level. Will update this post tomorrow with GMV. Updated with GMV! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1969123899/spliced-TAZ-AUG08.gmv For redoing the last hit: Taz clone boss HP can be monitored at 00FF3690, the hits should come 90 frames apart. Come on guys, let's finish this! :)

Kumquat: it depends on what rules DarkKobold decides to set, under last years ruleset getting help from whoever was allowed... Because it is impossible to check anyway. DarkKobold: I might be interested in participating. I have a lot of time on the workday evenings, but not so much during the weekends. Is team signup going to be allowed, or are all teams going to be randomized?

For anyone listening, I found a verrry small timesaver early in the level, and Sonikkustar said he would follow it through the level. I have been out traveling but will come back this monday and I hope we can get this rolling again then. It's only two levels left after all...
