Hello everyone. My team, which at the moment seems to consist of only me, has decided to forfeit this competition. TheRandomPie was nice enough to tell me how we were doing compared to them (200 frames behind). While it could possibly be finished on time, it is not worth sacrificing a night's sleep for if we are still going to lose. The last levels would also have to be played less precise to make it in time. andymac has our last movie attempt, he will make it public when the competition ends. I am looking forward to seeing the other two teams' movies. I would like to give a big thanks to Cardboard and Baxter for helping me out when my team members went missing, and giving this an honest try. You guys are awesome! ------ Comments for future competitions: - Set the starting date in stone well before the competition starts. For me it was a problem that this started two days late. I had more time last weekend than this one (which I knew beforehand). - If I do this again, I will form my own team. There could still be a pool of people who are randomly grouped into teams, of course. - Don't announce game info in the topic after the competition has started. - The rules were good and clearly stated. - The game choice was very good.

moozooh texted me, he has had connection problems since Friday. He will participate if/when he comes online again. Perhaps it's is good that that team has 4 players then...

I am positively surprised! It looks indeed look like a good game for a TAS, and your movie seems well made so far. Do continue.

Sounds awesome. I hope you manage to get together some TASvideoers. :) It would be fun to come, but I'm sort of in the wrong continent...

I looked through the first two levels of this movie... When going past some enemies, you stop to kick which seems to lose you time. In many of these cases it seems that you could jump over the enemy instead. Would this be faster? And also: does jumping or landing from a jump cost any time? Sometimes it looks like there is a small pause when you land from a jump, but it's hard to tell when watching in full speed. Maybe it's just my imagination.

Overall I liked it. The majority of the clips were nice. Most of all I liked that someone finally went and did it after people asked for a new one for a long time. Thanks! If there is something to change, it would be changing "There are those that refuse to stay mortal" to "We refuse to stay mortal", "We refuse to follow the rules" etc.

Ack. OK, i think I'm in. I cannot TAS Snes games because of mystical technical difficulties though. NES, GB, Genesis, SMS are fine. The other emulators I don't have much experience with, but I guess i could learn.

To me, it seems people are insterested mostly in seeing the history for a specific goal - not all movies for a game. I think this function could be implemented without too much trouble, with the database info we have. All that is needed is the field "which movie does this movie obsolete", and then check the same info for that movie, etc. Does this seem like a reasonable solution?

Make two movies: one where you finish the boss with low healt, and another with slower stage and faster boss fight. Continue on whichever is faster overall. If you supply save-state or movie going up to the boss, I can try to help you find the RAM adress.

Thanks to everyone who voted Yes so far. :) Kejardon: There is about 8 pixels of space between the claw and the body. It could probably be done in a speedrun, since you have plenty of time to get into position before the boss walks in. Similar to Missiray, which has a safe spot which is about the same size. About the avalanche at the top, we don't get hit because we don't touch the boulders. :) If you run the movie in Gens, you can use Graphics -> Lock Palette before things go dark to see what happens. I tried out the thing you said about shooting backwards on Seven Force in the Japanese version, but it appears to work as it should there.

The shield of Woodman blocks all shots. Usually you have to wait for Woodman to throw the shield at you before you can damage him. That the air weapon sometimes penetrates the shield is (I think) an oversight.

Load a savestate. It seeks to the point in the movie where the savestate was made. Of course, you first have to create the savestate. But you only have to do that once.

I cannot get it to synch either. Goes wrong at the title screen, like mklip2001 described. I have version 1.16 and my ROM is labeled (U) (1.0). But I guess it could still be a different ROM. Dega needs a checksum feature...

Sidenote: >Let's assume that in a country the probability of a newborn child to be either a boy or a girl is exactly 50%. Naturally this means that about 50% of the population will be male and the rest female. No, only if males and females die at a similar rate. Which they don't do in most countries (especially not those at war).

I vote NO. The quality of this movie is too low. This run is ~10:40 something, a 9:35 movie was posted on this very forum by Daibakusho Curry. Here are some reasons: - You stop during the stages to change weapons. There is plenty of time between levels to do this. - You stop to wait for weapon power-ups to change to the right ammo types. You can shoot them to change them to your current ammo type. - You say that you choose the weapons with the highest damage output, but during the 7-force fight you downgrade to the Buster Force. - Before you get the Buster Force, you don't damage Medusa Force (the wheel) with any weapon, even though you have lancer. - You run out of ammo during some boss fights, this is avoidable with some planning and by using the white suit. The gold suit consumes more ammo. - You can kill the Ant man (second boss) directly with the phoenix, without firing at it first. - The spider fight is way slower than the unassisted run of this game. You can hover under the moth, no waiting required. - You don't need to take damage at the fish boss. Also D.curry showed a faster strategy than what you used. - Etc.... - Stylistically, I think you heavily overuse the counter-force, but that's just me.

Sorry Xipo, this is still a definite No for me. Boring stages, boring repetitive boss fights... I don't see it being published.

Ï agree with Twisted Eye mostly. You have what could be an interesting movie, but it looks improvable here and there. For example: - you end the game with 180 gold, yet seemingly spend time collecting gold after your last purchase - in the final castle you inexplicably land on a ledge while falling down, just to jump off it and continue down - boss hits do not always seem to be properly timed - jumps to get swords/keys from monsters have different timing (but maybe they become grabable (?) after a certain time? - you jump through the floor in the boss fight sometimes, why not use this to pick up the gold/sword/key as it appears?

You knew someone was going to do it... I'm not even sure the spoiler tag is necessary here. 1.) Felicity - exuberance, jubilance 2.) Lexicon - vocabulary 3.) Jostle - jolt 4.) Pious - ecclesiastical 6.) Beguile - allure, gyp 7.) Ubiquitous - pervasive 8.) Superfluous - exorbitant 9.) Obstinate - contumacious 10.) Cacophony - clamor, bedlam :) 11.) Deprecate - disparage 16.) Inane - jejune 25.) Obfuscate - what I'm doing here 26.) Hermitage - an art museum in Saint Petersburg I only translated the words i knew, but had some help with some (most) of the replacements. While this is fun, I don't see how it helps with creative writing. Unless you think Ulysses is a creative book because it contains so many different words...
