gbagcn: I recommend you to ask someone who understands this (your local computer nerd/teacher/professor) and have him explain it to you in person on paper, because it's obvious that the explanations people are giving here aren't getting through.

Boco> In any case, evolution is a theory that explains the history, development, and differentiation but not origin of life. Anyone who denies it is stupid for two reasons: one, not having bothered to learn what the actual science is; and two, not having bothered to learn what the actual religion teaches. Plus points for this answer. But i'm going to be aggressive anyway: what when science finds and understands the origin of life? (I assume that it will, sooner or later.) Where will god hide when earthquakes, lightning, diseases and the origin of life is taken? Blublu> Why is there something instead of nothing? I try not to think about this one too much. primo> The men who wrote these books knew Jesus personally, and saw him die. The gospels are commonly dated to years 70-110. Biblical scholars find it unlikely that any of the apostles wrote them. primo> I think that the fact that the disciples were convinced of the ressurection is one of the strongest arguments that it actually happened. I think that's an extremely weak argument. People of different faiths are convinced of all sorts of things. Is the fact that the davidians were convinced that David Koresh was Cyrus the Great reborn (to the extent that they were willing to die for it) a strong argument that he actually was? ----- And honestly: virgin birth? Wouldn't you put your 5$ on Joseph? No muslims around? That would be refreshing.

Around frame 6880 you don't seem to be using the fast slide... could you jump so reach the ground below faster and start another slide earlier?

Wikipedia article that JXQ linked to wrote:
Since the suffix "-less" indicates some kind of lack, the term childfree has been adopted to differentiate those who choose not to have children from those who desire children but do not have them.
The thing that bothers me about this argument (same as when I heard about "Topfree") is that -less doesn't at all indicate a desire. How about words like painless? Fearless? And maybe also priceless and careless. To answer the question, I'm unsingled since a few months back, after two and a half years chronical singledom. (What is the proper antonym of single anyway? Probably not double or unsingle.) (edit: fixed most-likely-tag-to-be-messed-up)

Taz in TAZ Mania for Genesis moves approx a screenful in 34 frames, which is 320 pixels... I was unable to measure any better than this, because the position is stored in a strange way. Kid Chameleon can move 9 pixels per frame after bouncing on three enemies. Memory adress 00FF24FA. Should be enough for a honorable mention at least...

That's good to hear, I have wanted to see an improvement to this for a long time. Let me if you want an extra eye for finding more timesavers.

>Why are you fixing on extremes? You provided one extreme, so I provided the other. I don't think "At most, you're getting a run of a crappy generic game (see: a half of NES platformers) instead of an a priori more interesting run of a game that has its category slots already full." describes the current situation very well. >you are very reluctant to provide 3rd category slot, and have never once allowed 4th so far (see example). Is true that I don't like having lots of odd goals for any one game, but even regardless of what I think, Bisqwit has stated in for once certain terms - we should never publish more than three movies for a game. (Yes, we all know that Metroid has 4 for historical reasons.) >... I see no problem in including it in the list of categories after the movie listing structure is reworked. That's an if rather than an after. Also, reworking the movie structure is not an excuse to have more movies for the same game, unless Bisqwit decides to change abovementioned rule as well.

moozooh: >But I DO. No, and it makes it a lot less interesting to debate with you. >Whether you agree on the subjective matters or not, doesn't make them less subjective. Warp was entertained by this run, you weren't. Does that make you more right? No, sir. He said it was entertaining — well guess what, for him it was. Nothing is objectively entertaining, anyway. Is there an echo in here? To me this sounds just like what I said. I never said or implied that I my opinion on what is entertaining was somehow the global standard. What Warp said, made me think he had that opinion. >It kills variety in goal choice, it confines you to seeing same shit over and over, being improved by tiny amounts of time and most of the time killing variety and entertainment in each iteration, instead of doing something different. The other extreme would be that we only see countless variations of goals for the same famous games, like no caps/coins/cannons, no minibosses/real time, only weakest weapon, or whatever it might be. I think we are far from either of those extremes, but I'd still rather width rather than depth. After 3 or 4 movies for one game, you have most likely seen almost everything it has to offer. Omni: >So, in this case it's probably a bad idea for a Mario run, a Toad run and a Luigi run is pointless because they already have screen time. Thanks for strawmanning me though. It's appriciated. I don't think I was strawmanning you, and I don't think you would appreciate it if I did. (More sarcasm I suppose - are we pissed at each other?) If you don't think Mario and Toad runs should be published, and I suspected that you wouldn't, I wanted to hear your reasoning for that. I'll take this as that you won't be opposed to a mixed run which includes Princess obsoleting both this run and the current mixed run.

>Wow, nice argument. I wonder how did you determine the objective truth. I used a stopwatch, of course. You don't HAVE to be sarcastic every time you reply to something you don't agree with. Warp thinks it's entertaining, I don't. I was mostly reacting to the way he made it sound like "Everybody thinks this is entertaining, nobody should have anything against it being on the site". (I also think that you understood this yourself without me spelling it out for you.) OmnipotentEntity and moozooh: Do you think we should publishing Toad, Mario and Luigi only runs for this game? Honestly?

Graphical smileys have been turned off (they are standard bbCode, right?) because the board administrator doesn't like them. A similar argument could be made, that those are social problems, not technical problems, and should be addressed socially, not technically. In this case the board admin seems to like the technical gadget (and himself put tiny text at the end of his posts) so this discussion is probably going nowhere. >Warp, you are far to judgmental for your own good. Go and die in a fire. One should not fence in rubber boats.

>It's entertaining. That's not objectively true. I don't see it as as entertaining as the published short movie, and not different enough to warrant a separate publication. >Does it hurt to have such a video here? It leads to tricky arguments of type "if SMB2 Princess only why not my movie with silly rule X?". >I see it as the equivalent of the Luigi run for SMB2J. Why is this different? That's a better argument. The main difference in my opinion is that you can not select character every level in SMB2j. If you could, I would be opposed to "Mario only" or "Luigi only" runs for that game, I would prefer a movie w Do you think we should have Toad, Mario and Luigi only runs as well for this game?

I'm not sure what to think... In a way I guess it's better that a better non-famtasia run is in the old run's place, but I'm not exactly in favor of having this run in the first place (like everyone probably knows by now). But I guess that's not going to happen.

>Is there a chance it will be accepted in this format when it is finished (and being good enough, of course)? Yes, 1.51 is a valid emulator, so your movie can be accepted if it is good enough. 1.51 is only discouraged because it has sync problems. About your movie, the first jump off the first rising platform didn't look optimal. You could have had more speed as you jumped off the platform. But maybe this doesn't matter since you are boosting directly afterwards?

Movies of this would be very appreciated, since it's hard to follow instructions like this. Record a GMV in Gens, upload it on microstorage, and post the link here.

I expected this decision to be controversial no matter what. If setting a movie to "published" when it hasn't been given it's own AVI and movie number feels wrong, it could easily be set to "rejected" instead. This is a new situation since when we last did emulator movie only publishing, since there were neither submissions nor statuses when it last happened, only text that Bisqwit updated himself. I see now that Bisqwit has set it to "cancelled". I thought this state was reserved for movie authors when they wanted to remove their own movie from the list, but if everyone think that's the best option we could do it like that in the future. Hope that made sense.

No, this is definitely a good part of the forum to post it. Though, there is probably some Shinobi 3 topic lying around you could post it to (it doesn't matter if you ressurect an old thread). The glitch looks very, very interesting. I haven't seen it before either. The current movie could be improved by a large margin with it.

>(NES) Ninja Gaiden 3 (U) and NES Ninja Gaiden 3 (J) are the same game too. Then you should select U! >But there are much difference bteween these two games, especially between Bayoubil and Mad City (J). The published run is made by U. Then you should select U! Conclusion: you should always select U. See the rules:
Use the (U) version of a ROM unless there is a good reason not to (as an example a shortcut/trick which only works in a different version, or superior music), or the version does not exist.
Shorter intro screen and easier enemies are not good reasons to switch from U.

I think the level ups are sort of comical really, it shows how much you really aren't supposed to go there yet. Other than that, yessing this.

Saturn> I still think it's best to publish both runs alongside each other, because they aim for completely different goals. As suggested before, it would at least fit in the "concept demo" section. I liked this run and vote yes, provided it won't obsolete heros run. Although the future of this submission isn't decided, we can rule out publication alongside hero's run. It will either obsolete his run, or be rejected. We will have to respectfully disagree on "completely different goals".

Good luck. Be sure to post some movies of your work in progress (WIP) so that anyone interested can give feedback.

stickyman05> The thing is, what is stopping the queue from growing in size again? Me. And adelikat. I would not like to see the poll question removed, because the poll results offer good oversight on if a submission is popular or not, without reading 30 posts. I would not like to have a comment to everyone's vote being made obligatory, because 90% of them would be "voted yes". If people have something they want to say about a movie, they will post anyway. About the poll question, I realize it isn't completely correct, but the cases where the answers to "Did you find this movie entertaining" differs from "Do you think this movie should be published" are quite rare. People will always post their opinions in that case. So I wouldn't mind it staying, or being changed to "Do you think this movie should be published" or even "Did you find this movie entertaining and think it should be published?"

cp is a common swedish insult meaning retard, idiot (from Cerebral Palsy). Basically noone is named Adolf anymore, at least not here (it used to be a pretty common jewish name). I think you can understand why - it is forever associated with Hitler. Interesting graph: name popularity
