I think asteron is referring to the game's complete irregard for Newton's third law when Glover dribbles the ball forward. The movie was okay, but felt suboptimal sometimes when correcting pathing several times instead of going straight. Anyway, if parts of two of the bosses were played by meepers, why isn't this "adelikat and meepers' N64 Glover"? Perhaps this has been answered already.

AnS> I thought last year I've found optimum between speed and entertainment in the game. Your submissions said as fast as possible, and not that there were any entertainment trade-offs. As I understood it the pacifict in first level didn't cost any time. Anyway, I'm interested in hearing what the improvements were, since the submission writes so little about it. I had forgot how silly the bosses were in this game.

MUGG: A ROM is a copy of the data on a cartridge. (Cartridge is the plastic thing you insert into your console.) In other words, it is the game which you open in VBA. We can not help you to find ROMs, so you will have to search on your own.

>I probably won't worry about Visual Boy Advance for TASes, because the Version I have can't Rerecord. Well, download one that can then? See the FAQ for links.

hotd> ... anti-American videos ... They are anti-american because they make fun of americans? Hm. I don't so. I also think it is remotely funny. People from anywhere will say stupid (and funny) things if you shove a microphone and tv camera in their face, but United Statesians are in fact poor at geography. See for example National Geographic's surveys, where fewer USians can locate USA on a map than can people in Canada, France, Japan, Mexico and Sweden. (Along with other scary results.) The reason why people bash the US for no good reason (which I agree happens a lot), is partly that the US is very active in world politics, and for that reason steps on many toes, and partly for the reason mentioned earlier, because of jealousy. That's my view at least. That many USians are very patriotic and start the tired "but we saved your asses in WW2!" every time someone criticizes the military actions of the US probably doesn't help either. Speaking of country stereotypes, and keeping on-topic, those Japanese sure are crazy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj0Ma2CsHME

I'd like to apologize for holding up this publication so long, the only reason it wasn't published sooner was because I was lazy fixing the subtitles. I hope they turned out allright, even though they are 1 second off due to me forgetting to take the encoder intro into consideration.

Sounds like fair game to me, it's a programmer oversight rather than an intended cheat. People might not like it though, and it makes it impossible to compare with the official real-time records. I wouldn't use it for that reason.

I think the point of April Fool submissions are somewhat lost when they are published a month later at the earliest. But fixing that would restrict them to publishers, or require that people send them in advance.

laughing_gas, or anyone else knowledgeable, a question: can you affect how quickly the first-person shooting scenes end, or is it just about not dieing? If it's the former, how sure are you laughing_gas thay they are optimal? The previous movie is pretty old by TAS standards.

(judge hat on) 2. If all it does is return you to the title screen, don't include it. 3. Calling it normal ending is probably okay.

Avatar backstory. I used to have a picture of Kid Chameleon transforming into his samurai version, but it wasn't as cool as this one.

jaysmad: Unfortunately, that is purely trial and error. You'll have to record a movie and see if it desyncs. Even if it doesn't desync in your test movie, that's no guarantee that it won't desync in your real movie. Through experience, you'll learn what options are usually a good idea to turn on/off and which ones to test when something goes wrong.

Another exploded topic, I see. Good job here everyone. Deep Loner had it right already on page 2, and I'm removing the words "pride movie" from the guidelines because it's already covered by the rules. Everyone happy? (That's a rhetorical question. I actually don't care if you are happy or not.) Phil> And when I think my judging rights were removed because of assface like you... No, Phil. They were revoked because of an assface like YOU. Your behaviour and nothing else caused that. Don't go blaming others.

I'm a little confused about using the only the weak homing weapon on some of 7-force's incarnations, though. Does it lag too much, or did you just want some variation? Other than that, it looks great.

Did anyone who complained in this topic (or the 4 people who voted no) actually see the movie? So far noone on IRC has been able to play it, so i assume it's just broken somehow, which is why it shows 0 rerecords. It could also be an effect of hexediting back and forth.

Either there is a "not" too much in your post, or you really meant to support 1) or 3).

With all the controversy over the recent submission for Resurrection of Warrior - Bionic Hitler, I think it's time we sat down and decided what the rules should be like. Currently they are very vague and will certainly get us the same problem again in the future. These are the options I've seen so far: 1) Always use (U), unless it doesn't exist, or there is a shortcut or trick that only works in (E) or (J). I prefer this option. It means we use games in a language about 90% of our visitors can understand, and which with our viewers are familiar. It saves us from people switching versions to get a shorter intro or faster scrolling (japanese) dialogue, which doesn't make the movie more entertaining or better played, just less intelligible. 2) Allow players to use whichever version they can get the shortest movie with, overall. 3) Allow players to use whichever version they can get the shortest in-level time with. The players will have to specify in their submission how much faster in the levels a movie is when aiming to obsolete a previous movie. 4) Publish (U), (J), and (E) as separate games. I will let the people prefering these alternatives lay out the advantages of them, since I'm biased and wouldn't do them justice. I think 4) is a particularly bad idea. Unless there are other suggestions than these 4, I would like to set up a poll in a while.

One question: on level 18, around frame 31970, could it be faster to have the rightmost guy jump to the right with the spear and then throw it back, instead of handing it over directly and walking to the right? It seemed like you used this solution (or a similar one) elsewhere.

I don't see any reasoning at all in feitclub's submission. He lists some differences between the two games. He states that it's up to you (Bisqwit) if you want to 1) replace it because it's faster 2) list it as a second game. That time, you chose 1). The situation is exactly the same as now; this is faster. If version differences are taken into consideration, it is actually quite a lot faster, about 23 seconds, than a version that most people thought was "OMG WTF!" and which has had a star for a long time. But for some reason (which is unclear to me) you want to choose 2) this time. The old version won't disappear just because it is obsoleted. You can still compare them if you think video game censorship is an interesting topic. Because of that I don't see this as a good arguement to keep two versions of this game. Also, when you have stated that no game should have more than 3 variants published, having two movies for the same game with the exact same goals and largely the same content sounds very strange to me. Other advantages I see with using (U) versions (for any game): * it is the version familiar to the majority of our viewers * it has dialogue and commands in a language a majority of the viewership can understand * it avoids these kinds disputes. If you are going to revert my decision, I think you should state what it's going to be instead. Like JXQ said, it feels like "reach a consensus" in this case really means you think we should change our minds and start to agree with you, which we don't and probably won't. I think 39 to 3 is a good enough consensus.
In my opinion, the uncensored theme in the game is of bigger entertainment than the Engrish dialog texts. .... The question is, is it of majority or minority opinion?
Going through the topic, this is what i found: Prefers BC / Obsolete: Kyrsimys, Cardboard, JXQ, hero of the day, adelikat, mmbossman, quietkane, Banarak, VirtualAlex, Dasrik, FreshFeeling, and me. (12 people) Prefers HnF / Should not obsolete: Phil, ventuz, Bisqwit. (3 people) In other words, that opinion is in the clear minority.

Huh? It's not only the sig, it's the text too, and cropping screenshots is very easy.

Just to make it extra super special clear: ANY movie for ANY game from now on that is recorded with the wrong PAL/NTSC settings will be rejected immediately. Times will be adjusted 20% when comparing with previous runs that were recorded the wrong way. In other words, future movies for this game can use (E) rom and still obsolete this. The rules were recently updated to reflect this.

One way is to link them from Users.html. An automatic link on personal homepages probably woudn't hurt either, because the first impulse is to click the people on the "most rated movies" to see what they have rated.
