>This is true in the same way that it is true that Final Fantasy on snes9x is a SNES game hacked to be a PC game. Upthorn and xebra are right. It's no hack, it's just an emulator for a different platform than PC. However, I find it unlikely that we would accept an emulator this poor if it had been for PC. It removes more than a quarter of the scanlines, misplaces graphics on the screen, and garbles the sound quite badly. There are advantages of course, such that VBA has very good tools already and a good file format. But no matter how good Dr SMS gets in the future, the first problem (with the resolution) will never be solved. Perhaps the others will be fixed, is Dr SMS development still active? I consider this a makeshift solution at best. Are there really no suitable SMS emulators we can modify to include TAS tools?

I love this game, but I doubt that it will translate into a good TAS. It's quite long, and nothing much happens for long stretches some time. As I assume you know, you usually have to equip new armor (or collect insane amounts of stones) to be able to buy the next set of equipment, so a lot of money is required. You can fly with the pirahna man by alternating between left and right quickly. Maybe some shortcut is possible, for example getting the legendary equipment early. I'm not sure, since it's hard to perform on a console. That's all I've got. I wish this could be done on a real SMS emulator, the graphics are mangled and misaligned with Dr. SMS. :(

I will vote no. There isn't much interesting going on in this game, and the boss fights are not interesting to watch at all.

I find it funny that the guy without the spread gun destroys the targets in the base levels the fastests. :) Making every every jump in the vertical level a few pixels lower must have been tedious, but the end result looks great at least.

Here we go then: Levels 1, 2 and 5 are not that interesting, but level 3 has not one but three very nice shortcuts. Definitely the best part of the run. The stairs in level 4 and 10 look slow. I can't help thinking that some jumps when going up on the platforms also look slower than they need to be. Even though they are probably done as fast as possible, it still looks slow. Level 7 has one questionable jump at the guillotines (or whatever they are). In Level 8 you fall rather than jump into the water, but perhaps it doesn't make any difference? Borderline yes/meh, I'm not sure what to vote.

A lot of good 2P games have already been suggested, so I'll continue the Genesis trend (I have recommended these games before): * Crying (J) / Biohazard (U) - Flying shoot em up, interesting shield swinging * Contra: Hard Corps - well, you know Contra. They went a bit over the top with bosses in this one. Four different endings to see!

>Yes, but the Mario speedruns too are very similar to the TASes. This makes me think you haven't seen the TASes of the Mario games. The speedruns do not walk through walls, double-jump, or get 99 extra lives, for the NES Mario games. I know I promised you feedback.. it's coming. But not in this post.

This movie demands a cam hack. But I guess if nitsuja couldn't make one there aren't that many other candidates...

>I'm a bit surprised that AKA's run wasn't accepted sooner, it's almost as if the judges expected this new submission. The N64 judging is a lot slower since both me and adelikat who judge the majority of the movies have troublems with watching N64 games. The only time I can do it is when there's a YouTube or similar available.

Actually, after I wrote that, the FDS rom suddenly appeared in my mailbox, magically. So I will judge this on the weekend at the latest.

For me, it's because I haven't found the ROM, which is reportedly "Title.fds". Honestly, I have wanted to watch and judge it, but can't find the correct FDS image. I was hoping someone else could step in.

Barely working on it... as I wrote, I have my thesis (one month until graduation now), job applications, and not really any motivation or time to do much else. I have finished about half of the first level. I would also love to finish this, but expect it to take a while.

>I've watched other videos skip past me on the publication queue Don't think of it as a queue (even if it was once called this), it's more like a list. Some games are much easier to judge than others, especially if they have already published versions before them. >... and no one has even voted for any of my submissions. This is exactly the reason why other games were judged faster: they had more feedback and people wanted to see them published. It's not true that noone has voted for your submissions, even though they have received few votes. I'm sorry if this comes across as harsh.

Chamale: It is probably related to a number of factors: * GB is the least popular console here. * You picked an unknown game. * You have made a few submission for this game before, which were not so good, and people will not take the time to watch something if they think that the next version might also be bad. In other words, it has nothing to do with you or your personality. About the submission, I watched it once, and will do again and give you some comments.

Just throwing this suggestion up here, adelikat and I have discussed it before: I think the problem with this movie is that you will not realize what's so cool about it unless you read the explanation in the submission. This can be fixed, if the explanations for what's happening are placed in the subtitles. I would like to accept this if this can be guaranteed. If not, then I'm pretty sure this will end up having a very low entertainment ratio.

Jweb Guru>So barring "cheating" by including the exact time and date in the movie file, or forcing the user to otherwise set the clock back before playing it (neither of which I consider to be in the spirit of a TAS at all), ... Both of these solutions have been used for Game Boy games with a system clock (i think). It works because system clocks are very easy to emulate. You would want something else, say a game with built in radioactive isotope and geiger counter. (Lets ignore how many laws this would break for the moment.) Radioactive decay is random and the starting state is not enough to know the rest. Un-emulatable, and thus un-tasable.

upthorn: The (U) version is called "Shadow of the Ninja". Ninja used to be an offensive word in Europe, so they had to rename it.

It is a trend that has continued from the time when we had Famtasia and movies could only be recorded in NTSC. (See http://tasvideos.org/33M.html ) A (U) run would be preferable, but I guess that information hasn't been clear. I don't think we should force a redo when this movie is obviously better than the one we have. But it should be encouraged for the next version, if we get one.

ZeXr0: Votes are actually logged. It was implemented after a string of mysterious no-votes to all submissions. The information is just not available to everyone. I disagree that it should be publicly displayed at all times, or that you should have to state a reason every time (see primorial's post). Primorial: >I've seen this cycle a few times: ... >These scenerios are completely fictional ... You can't have it both ways. :P

FODA: I was thinking of the comment "Too bad the game was badly chosen." - i know this movie is much better played technically.

>So how do you control the seal lag? It's not lag in the usual sense. The animals pop out of the capsule in random order, at different locations, and to the right or left. Getting a slow seal last, on either side of the capsule, going in the opposite direction, means he will take a long time to exit the screen (which is when the level ends). Small delays do not usually change the randomness.

xipo: In the submission (http://tasvideos.org/1422S.html), "Real Name" is the name on your ID-card or in your passport. You don't need to write it if you don't want to. "Nickname" is your online name, in your case 西坡 or xipo. Don't worry, we fixed it for you. "xipo" was moved to "Nickname". Next time you submit a movie, you should write it this way.

Small complaint: Not that I don't like a quick judging process, but 3 hours is not enough for people to be able to give feedback. Even in clear cases as this (I assume from watching some WIPs, I haven't seen the full run yet), I think they should be given a couple of days at a minimum. People could be discouraged from giving useful input if the outcome is already decided.

xipo: It is very hard to get frame counts from Famtasia. You can get approximations from the AVI. The other option is to make savestates in Famtasia during the DD3 movie, and examine the savestate with a hex editor. I look forward to see your movie of DD3. (If this is difficult to understand, don't be afraid to ask for more explanation.)

LSK: I've had success with putting frame advance button on Shift, since it can be pressed together with almost any button. If that doesn't work, try some other buttons.
