I'm quite sure this is an unfeasible method. (synching DDR with NES unit primarily, and playing it completely perfect all the way) But you go ahead and try if you think it's worth it. I could definitely go for some TAS DDR if it was just a game for points. It shouldn't be impossible to code...

That one is real, actually, and not tool-assisted. The tires had me in disbelief too until I read that there are weights in the top of them, so any light push will topple them to the right. See: http://www.snopes.com/autos/business/hondacog.asp

I guess these have been around the internet long enough that most people have seen them already, but if you like The Incredible Machine, this is for you: Pitagora Suicchi 1 Pitagora Suicchi 2

I would also suggest starting with one of the Famtasia movies that needs to be upgraded. Pros: - Most of them are short and easy to play (but not necessarily to perfect). - You have a time which you know you must beat. This wouldn't be the case with a new game. - You won't have to worry about picking a game which isn't interesting. Upgrades almost always get published. The topic which lists the older runs is here: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3365

Yeah, you can stop the game from desynching by turning off VEHR. But then the SFX sounds like complete crap instead, which makes the game near unpublishable.

Isn't jumping through walls banned by all record-keeping organizations? You can check the FAQ (there is a link to help for specific games) on how to jump through walls.

Okay, we get it already. deepbluevibes likes his video and think it's very good. Some other people don't think so. He knows this already. Is harassing him about it any more really necessary?

>You mean that in nightmare mode you have to, for example, in e1m2 make a HUGE detour to the outside of the complex instead of going as straightforward as possible to the exit? I have hard time believing that. Good luck surviving that level without the chain gun. (Try it in NM and you'll see.) Really, the Doom speedrunning community is still very competitive and has a lot of skilled players; if his video was as bad as you say it is, it would have been beaten in no time. >The exact same question could be asked of e1m1, actually. 200% armor for the win. Check how much damage he sustains. (That, and it's probably also shorter than going around.)

>However, there are some speedruns at SDA which I simply can't understand. For example, take the Doom Episode 1 speedrun at SDA (made by Drew 'stx-Vile' DeVore). Or take for example the Final Doom TNT run (by the same runner). Those are not speedruns at all! I don't get it. I think you are very misinformed here. The Doom Episode 1 speedrun up on SDA is the current Nightmare record, according to COMPET-N: http://www.doom2.net/~compet-n/database/cn.cgi?record:udoom:movie+2005:7 And it has stood since 2003. If you think you can do better, then by all means. :) Myself, I can barely get trough 3 levels in NM even though I consider myself very good at Doom. Even the best TAS UltraViolence Episode 1 is 4 minutes, so I don't understand where you could have seen a movie that is about half as short.

That's the most obvious solution. Perhaps that's why it didn't occur to me at all. :/ Bisqwit already hosts the upgraded Famtasia here, so it shouldn't be impossible. Perhaps the Emulator Homepage could be less of a mess then too. What does our fearless leader say?

For the first green boss, did you try - changing into the dragon and shooting as you approached? - jumping into the big monster and placing the bombs rapidly inside him? Why all the damage in the 7:th level?

I realized now that the Downloads page is referring to a specific post in this thread (and not the correct one, any more). Should we get some permanent adress where the latest version of Gens is always uploaded, no matter who happened to make it? Perhaps this would be a good idea for some of the other emulators too.

Small bug report: 1) Assigned QuickLoad key cannot be used unless you have also specified a key for QuickSave. 2) These two only happened once (together) and I cannot reproduce them: Pressing frame advance when out of pause did not pause the game. The frame advance key had no delay before it started advancing multiple frames.

Hehe, finally I understand the japanese banners in the paper house. 日本一 : best in Japan 武道 : budo 一日一悪 : this one cracked me up, it's "one evil deed every day", a play on 一日一善 I liked the teleporting, and that you mixed it up with regular walking every now and then. Minus 10 points for not hitting the girl on the skateboard, though. :(

>But then there's the inherent problem of humans who can't do magic eye puzzles. Sign me up for that category. (I think it's all a lie and people are just pretending that they can see something in that complete mess of colors.) Anyway, I don't get what the big deal is. I've never seen a single spambot post on this forum, so this mostly seems like a hypothetical discussion. But perhaps that's because they are deleted at once instead of being filtered at sign-up.

I can't possibly imagine what kind of enjoyment you get from making posts like this. (Don't reply "Or can you?" to this post. It's neither clever nor funny.)

>Do i need a new emulator, or am i just to stupid to run the damn things and need to be shot? It's one of these, but you'll have to figure out which one it is yourself. PS: My favourite for viewing emulator movies is a 10mm Glock.

I have one question: is there no horizontal acceleration in the air? I'm guessing there isn't, since you hug the walls when falling. Guybrush>Looking good, although I don't like when all those enemies are killed but that's just me. Some of it is for lag reduction. Especially in the next level, all the flowers shooting causes a lot of lag, so that needs to be taken care of.

Having one friend who got conditional sentence, and an acquaintance who went to jail for refusing service, i know what a complete waste of resources conscription is. This is especially stupid in light of how I actually wanted to perform military duty, but they wouldn't let me. My problem with conscription/civil service is in my view that 1) the state forces you to waste one year of your life to work for shit pay, 2) not everyone is forced (for example if you are equipped with ovaries), in complete contradiction with the constitution (at least where I live), and 3) refusing lands you in jail, with a criminal record that will follow you for the rest of your life. There is another, uglier, word for this: forced labor. Kyrsimys>It's not about the army being that bad, it's a matter of principle. I do not believe that violence solves anything, which is why I chose civilian service. But of course it solves anything. Violence has solved more conflicts than all other methods combined. An invasion really cannot be repelled by any other means. Saying "please stop fighting" is just as ineffective in a global conflict as in a one-on-one situation, which history has showed time and time again. Diplomacy only works is when you have the potential violence to back up your words. FODA>If it wasn't mandatory then hardly anybody would serve... Not true at all. Many countries have voluntary-only armies and are doing fine. In times of conflict people tend to sign up. If they don't... well, perhaps the country wasn't worth defending to start with. xebra> The only way the army would ever see battle is if Finland got invaded. There are also international peacekeeping forces under the UN. (I think Finland are a part of those, at least.)

I think of it more as relating to behaviour than actual revolutions around the sun.
