The only reason that the Japanese version was used at all, was that Famtasia couldn't emulate the US version correctly (the elevators didn't work). I don't see why we should continue to be limited by an obsolete emulator. Given your list of possible improvements, I'm not sure this is the movie to do the job, though. I only noticed a few of your suggestions, for example attacking the dragon late.

Please take a second to read the pages Bisqwit linked to. We use slowdowns and savestates to play perfectly. Training and reflexes has nothing to do with it. The videos are meant to be entertaining, not as a proof of playing skill.

(Out of the currently 10 Accepted movies, 9 were judged by me.) Previously all judges were also encoders, and encoded and published the movies as soon as they had judged them, so this kind of thing could not happen. At least the queue is slowly shrinking now (if only people would stop submitting new movies... :P) As we now have more encoders than we have publishers, I hope that publishers will be made separate from judges, so that everyone who is encoding now can be made publishers and publish accepted movies themselves.

JXQ: It's in Japanese, and Japanese doesn't have capital letters. :/ I was going to let people guess for a while, but nobody took the bait last night. It says "sentan ga kirareta" and was excite's automatic translation suggestion for Truncated when I clicked that button on the Nesvideos frontpage. It means something along the lines of "the end point was cut off" which I then just _had_ to work in somewhere. Also, and I swear this was not intentional at first, the text didn't fit in, so I had to truncate the last part of it. AngerFist>Since I dont want to create another silly useless thread, ... I don't know, but you can download a movie which does this, and watch it at a very low speed in FCEU with input display on. Input display is turned on by comma (,) or full stop (.) - i don't remember which one.

I have no interested in a TurboGrafx emulator, but if you go ahead with it, I'd suggest checking how it's implemented in the emulators everybody seems to like best here (being VBA and to some extent Snes9x), to get it right from the start with out-of-order savestate loading, frame advance, movie file format, etc.

It is quite likely it was programmed in NES machine instructions (assembler), which means that the source would be no different from decompiling it. And yes, decompiling is possible (Bisqwit did it for MM1, Acmlm for DW and Monopoly, etc.), but the result is impossible to understand for any normal man. I don't think this would be the best game to gain something out of decompiling anyway. It's too straight-forward.
