I think that anonymous once had a name (because these boards don't allow anonymous posting), but that it was removed when his account expired. Or something along those lines. Perhaps it is possible to somehow retrieve the name of this benefactor with the wonders of modern technology?

There must be a "not" missing here... >Of course it's out of question that this one should be replaced by a full run when one is actually done. ... or here: >... as long as there is no full run and just obsolete it when one is done. In any case, I think this submission will be rejected, based on the big amount of negative feedback it has received. I still think Saturn (or anyone else who wants to try) deserves to know if a full run would be met with more positive criticism (good quality being presumed) than this, because it's not something you whip up over-night.

>OH. And I'm not using the Left+Right glitch, I'm not 100% sure whether it is allowed or not, so if it is agreed to let it go, I'll use it to optimize the movie later. I'll keep going on my merry way for now. There are a lot of movies published which rely on the fact that you can press left and right at the same time (SMB2, MM1, Zelda3 to name a few famous ones). So that shouldn't be a problem. I say, if you're going to glitch it, glitch it all the way. What you have so far looks nice.

Yes, this site accepts movies made with 1.43 FINAL. (I assume this is what you mean by just 1.43.) However, your question is a bit strange: 1.43+ should be able to play movies both made in 1.43 FINAL and 1.43 WIP. Are you sure that your movie plays back correctly in 1.43 FINAL? In any case, FINAL has some timing problems which WIP doesn't have, so it's advised to record in WIP timing. (1.43+ can record in both timings.)

>The plan is to get all middle bells unless they're really out of the way, ... That doesn't seem like a very clear goal. Either get all of them or don't specify anything about them in your goal.

>This is somewhat unrelated, but I once had a funny glitch that actually let me postpone MB's beam attack as long as there were any Power Bombs left. I've had that happen as well. But as you said, there is likely no practical application.

>I don't see where a translation patch would screw anything up in re-playing a movie, and a link to an English version could just be put up on the board. Since Japanese has fixed font width, and European languages usually don't, translators usually hack the graphical routines of the games to implement it. This almost always has an effect on timing. That, and also speech segments aren't guaranteed to even be of the same length any more. Either of those means instant desync. I hope that's a more helpful answer than "Everywhere".

>I don't! Maybe put up the movie file later, but don't make a movie file out of the movie file, if you know what I mean. No. Nobody has a clue about what you mean. Also I still don't appreciate your incessant garbage posting. Cease and desist until you have something worth reading to write. >I disagree, the "side-stroller" movie does have a clear goal and could theoretically be beaten. So it's the fact that this movie has no clear goals and could not be obsoleted that makes you think it shouldn't be published April 1:st or any other day? The side-stroller was obsoleted without any new version being posted... but this was later revoked. Anyway I don't see a need to obsolete a joke video by beating it. Unless the new version is also posted on April 1:st.

If it was there is no way Lolo would have gotten published. I'm still trying to get that tune out of my head.

If you seriously want to continue discussing the merits of communism, I think we should make a new thread.

>Publish this run on April 1st. Noone responded to this, I guess everyone just took it as a joke. I seriously think this is a good idea. It gets around the fuss about publishing a video that isn't optimal. (The Mario side-stroller clearly wasn't.) It doesn't stop an as-fast-as-possible movie to get published if anybody makes one. And also, it's a humorous video fitting for the occasion. If published like this, my vote is Yes. Otherwise, I think it should be rejected.

If you do decide to make an improved version, let me know and I can perhaps give you some more thorough feedback. I think the normal/hard issue should at least be looked into, too. For example doing one level in both normal and hard and see how much more clumsy/impressive/longer it is.

In some places it still does, unfortunately, yeah. Do you want to guess if people are trying to get into or out of those places?

>I wish I had gotten this kind of feedback back a year ago when I posted a WIP. Even after nearly a year in the submission queue, I received no criticism like this. I agree that this is poor, but I simply couldn't watch it until now because of ROM mismatch, even though I wanted to. The AVI was my first chance. >When you say second boss, do you mean the plant? ... I hit him as soon as he stops blinking every time. 1) Yes, and 2) I'm pretty sure you don't. Check the two first hits specifically. >The pinball level, which you mentioned, was done near optimal as far as I can tell. Any specific places you noticed possible improvements? Almost every place where you wait for one of those blocks that say "0" to disappear. You stand on top of it when you should have jumped to go down faster, or push from the side when you should have ran towards it and arrived just when it disappeared. >Any specific places you noticed possible improvements? Many, but I think most will be obvious to someone making a new version. For example, the very first level, and the very first thing you do, you run to the right instead of jumping straight away. And going up you stay on the right side when you should have placed yourself a little to the left/middle to have more speed when you pass the passage.

The Excite Bike movie previously only played one track, and was later obsoleted by a full run. That's something to consider. I'm not sure I would consider this movie more interesting if it played all tracks, but I'm probably not the best reference. I had never ever seen F-Zero before this submission (which is strange because it seems to be very famous). The vote results are really lousy so far, too. I think the safe path is to reject this one and wait for a full run, but it seems unfair that someone would put his soul into that and still be met with "just not entertaining" when it's finished (like this was). I'm babbling, the question is: Do we really want a full run?

>Then, many published movies fail to respect that rule Mr. "no". I agree. But being boring is a subjective judgement too. You know that's not what this was about anyway. You implied that boring was a bad reason to vote no, and I showed you that this wasn't the case.

Okay, so this is the submission edited the longest time ago. Whatever, it's being judged. Be a nice boy and state you opinion for the record. I'll get to the takaboukenhashimeijimajin soon enough.

This is up for judgement. What do you think? Some people were entertained, some were bored, myself, I'm not sure which one I was. In any case it's improveable.

This is currently the oldest submission in the queue. What should we do with it?

Phil>Voting No because you don't like the game is o_O. Rules>The movie must be interesting Guidelines>Select your game well. Not all games have potential for entertaining movies. Select the one that give you the best chance to do something absolutely stunning. The Question>Did you like watching this movie? I guess that's my way of saying "no, it's not exactly o_O". I didn't find this movie interesting to watch, and the speed of completion only seems to depend on when the last item is dropped.

Just chiming in. I watched about half of this run yesterday and spotted several obvious mistakes. The second boss comes to mind, as does getting momentum before the 0-blocks disappear (the level where you throw bombs or whatever). Several places would benefit from cutting corners better. Also I wasn't very convinced that this run should be done on normal instead of hard, even though I don't know how far off the pieces are then. But 10 minutes is not that long for a more impressive run.

>I was under the impression that Pokemon Blue and Pokemon Red are two different games. They are, but I don't think the differences are big enough to warrant two versions either. I think obsoleting was a good choice. I didn't get the idea behind the screenshot either. Isn't ember just one of Charmander's regular moves? Why is it a good description for this run? If noone objects, I'll switch it for the one Primo suggested.

Wow, great game choice. Mayhem and chaos all around. I had only played this game on flash before, at http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/59593 for anyone interested. The first subboss can be done faster, yeah. You didn't use the charge move or the grenades, probably they can speed it up. There's also a riding + headbite move with down+jump which you could show off some time when the game waits to scroll anyway. I'm playing normal and for some reason I just can't seem to die. I must have died tens of times at the bosses and still no game over. >Because I got sick of the idiocy. Pah, come on now. I think you have been to online communities before. The squabble here is small compared to most places I've been to.
