Damn you, I was just about to go to bed last night when I discovered this and just had to watch it first. It looks very good, couldn't see anything to complain about, and it's a lot faster than the previous version. So I'm voting yes. And I'm sure I've complained about this before, but why doth the MMX3 music sucketh so badly?

>Well there are some movies where the older movie was only 1 frame slower. There is only one such movie, Donkey Kong. Some others have been 4-30 frames. I don't see the point in publishing movies where the difference in speed is not noticable to the human eye. I think a minimum of one second is a good idea for very short games, and a lot more than that for longer movies.

New version up, same link as above. This one completes four levels and three bosses. The last boss is only played with slowdown, I will redo it later. Perhaps try to manipulate away that bomb I have to jump over... but it is always there as far as I can remember, it is only when the bossfight starts that the bombs fall randomly. Bosses have been very cooperative so far. :)

Hehe. The enemies are singing about how hot Carla is. And when you enter her room she says she has been waiting and invites you into the bath. If you answer yes Friday dazzles you (out of jealousy I guess). If you say yes she says something about noone refusing her in 100 years, and she calls for her goons to revenge her. It also looks like Nigel is named Lyle in this version. The two baddies names are also different, Goose and Zuwamu. >The witch house is too different, where you must play as a dog. Its much harder. This is the same in the European version at least, because I remember that place being impossible when I played it on console too.

Hm, at first I tought this was the Japanese version of "Fist of the North Star (U)" which ziplock submitted a movie to some time ago. But it turns out that this is a completely different, and in fact even worse game. With the game being so bad, distracts me from whether the movie is good or not. I think bosses weren't hit as early as possible all the time, but I can't be sure. In any case, I think this is a bad choice for a game to speedrun... Nanahocha, don't give up because this one wasn't a very good idea. Try again with another, more interesting game. (If you have problems understanding English, we are some here who speak Japanese and can help you, so don't worry.)

I remember reading some site which had hacked the ROM and found they were identical. I could misremember of course. But it seemed a lot more exact than that Wikipedia source. I'll see if I can dig it up again.

I'm a bit unsure about the last two, and the pronunciation of the good (altought somewhat kinky) doctor. It could be that they are meant to be opposites in some way: Suki yama = loved mountain Waru yama = bad mountain

Started this one up, making it by frame advance only. Here, have a preview: http://133an.sytes.net/~truncated/Asoldier(A).gmv (The url function for some reason again refuses to work.) Finishes only the first level so far. I'm unsure about the first boss, I will experiment some more there before moving on. ROM: Alien Soldier (A) Mode: European (50 Hz) Comments are as always very welcome.

The newer standard versions by Nitsuja have a checkbox somewhere to allow playing out of focus. Are you running something other than that?

>I have no idea of any damage numbers some people seem to have Terimakasih has them: http://terimaland.com/cnq/html_metroid3/ It's all in Japanese though... 1st link is weapon damages, second is boss stats, third is demos. I can throw together a quick translation if you need it. You would think that one of the 200 Metroid guides on GameFAQs would have it. Haven't seen it there, perhaps it's buried deep within one of the walktroughs.

>Did i see a wall jump in that cave with elevators? :) If you're talking about the point I think you are, there are bats there to bouce off, but they are hard to spot against the mostly black background. >I only wasn't confident if the spring elevator was done as fast as possible, but i'm not sure. Like I wrote somewhere in that mass of text above, I'm not completely confident about that spot either. It's so hard to evauluate a position, is reaching a lower position faster better than a higher one a bit later? I did my best but I wouldn't be too surprised if someone came up with a better way. Thanks to everyone who liked so far, hearing that makes me happy. :)

I do understand what you are trying to say, I'm just saying it's not a very good idea. Today we have another such loose category - the stars - and there is certainly a lot of differing opinions about which movies meet the standard to be included and which ones don't. (There is more prestige in this category of course but I think it's a relevant example anyway.) You don't seem to like having this discussion, so I will stop now. I think I voiced my concerns clearly enough already.

Kitsune, you have been told several times already to - stop asking for ROMs and - stop linking to ROM sites. It can't be that hard.

>I don't think you can pull off a floating cape trick while on Yoshi. You can. There was an example movie in some other SMW thread. Here: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2476&start=260 >Using a Yoshi has some Advantages. Faster Running Speed and Flying Speed come to mind ... I don't think this is true, but I will happily be proven wrong.

>Truncated, adelikat found the suggestion you made about F.Blast. Its one frame quicker and we'll decide if its worth it to redo the whole stage for one frame but we'll see :) Oh wait, now I understand why you didn't understand me before. I was talking about the boss selection screen (about frame 545), you can move to Flameman in one step (up+right, start) instead of two steps (right, up, start). It's the same thing at frame 8214, but there it looks like you actually move in a diagonal. If you found another trick in the weapon selection screen, good for you. :) About the boss fight, it just looks strange that he stays vulnerable for such long periods while you're charging up. I have no ideas or things that I actually think you did wrong. Perhaps something like shooting the charged shot from a distance, slide further away to shoot an uncharged shot that hits him when he becomes vulnerable again, and charge up on that shot instead. But yeah, I'm grasping at straws here. I've been watching the Blizzard level, and it looks like there are some places where you wait for two frames after a slide before doing anything (for example jumping). Frame examples: 9237, 9353, 9548, 10065, etc. Does jumping take an extra frame as opposed to shooting or sliding again (which seems to only take one frame)?

1 and 3 should be obvious. It's the select screen and the boss. For 2, never mind. I checked again and I think you are already using that trick in all places where it is possible.

>Whoa, it accepts diagonals? That must be a first... No. Megaman 3 and 5 also accept diagonals in the select screen.

It looks like you move to the Flameman icon in two steps, but the select screen accept diagonals. It that slower? Did you try sliding on the fire after being hurt, instead of riding the enemies? The boss battle strategy looks weird, but I'm sure there is some sense to it.

>I disagree. If the the "cut-off point" is zero, then the category becomes useless and uninteresting. Ok, the player takes damage and saves 2 frames because of that? So what? It doesn't make the video more interesting to watch. It certainly isn't something I expect when I search for movies which truely take damage to save time. The same with luck manipulation and abusing bugs. If taking damage only saves 2 frames in a run, I think most players here would just skip taking damage altogether. But that's not really important to the point here. If we do allow movies to take just a little damage here and there but still label them as takes no damage, I think we would get complaints very quickly. I know we won't start specifying how much damage you have to take / luck you have to abuse before you deserve the category because that's rather impossible. And if we instead leave it to the judges (or all the editors who also are able to change categories), even if we are given guidelines, I think we will have a big mess in no time because everyone's idea of what is "enough" doesn't match. Do you feel the same way about dying only a few times and using a restart sequence only once? How about killing just two or three enemies in a pacifist run? It doesn't make sense to me having categories with loose definitions.

Yes yes yes. I have no idea how many times I tried (and failed) to get past the crystals without getting the keys. Especially that first one, since it is so far off-center. After I saw this, the first thing I did was to go back and sneak past that crystal now that I knew how. And then back out again. :) Eat that, evil crystal. >The most sadistic thing about this game is that... dying in that final battle sends you all the way back to the start of The Machine! I wonder who the hell thought that could possibly be a good gameplay device. The sensible thing is of course to just input the code for the last boss which you just got instead of playing that dreaded level again. I have beat the two final levels (in sequence, I think), but never the fourth level (The Lagoon). :/ In any case this is great, good job!

>As far as I know, many of the categories awarded to the movies are done so more or less automatically just because the author claims in his submission that the movie belongs to that category. I actually wanted to remove the text about not all movies being properly categorized yet yada yada, because in my opinion they are. I check all the categories for the new movies and I think all the old ones have been seen enough times so that it's bound to be reasonably correct. In my opinion the only realistic cut-off point for inclusion in a category is at zero. Just like with taking damage and using death to save time. Otherwise it will just turn into a constant bickering about how much luck a movie must abuse to be included and if this or that game should or shouldn't count. The only realistically enforceable criteria is luck / no luck.

>I can't get this to happen normally (pressing + at 100% speed leaves it at 100%). I think you must have your "Toggle Slow Mode Key" assigned to +, which conflicts with + increasing the speed. Good guess, that's it. It was leftover from my old config. Problem solved.

Highly annoying bug: If pressing + at 100% speed, 50% and 100% get switched - 50% is full speed and 100% is 50% slow mode. Moreover the speed below 100% is 25%. I think it's somehow related to the slow mode checkbox in the menu.

CoolBumpty already stole my thunder. Don't do Heatman first, just do Bubbleman last. EDIT: Shinryuu, I'm assuming you are comparing to Finalfighter's movie? FCEU lags more than Famtasia at some times, which was evident when Bisqwit did his Rockman 1. Unless you're missing something obvious, it might just be that.

Since several new techniques with the items have been discovered for Bubble stage, wouldn't it be a good idea to do it later? The only thing would be that Heat man would be a lot slower. Has anyone tested how much slower, and how much time you can save in Bubble stage with items + better weapon on Bubble man?
