Yeah. Skip this nonsense and get to running. You can disagree in another topic, or via PM if you really have to.

For Genesis: Contra HC, Golden Axe, and Gunstar Heroes could probably benefit from two players. Maybe even Altered Beast and the Streets of Rage movies. Strider already has a new submission which is a lot faster. I think it can be taken down a bit further. SNES: Donkey Kong and Goof Troop can be improved, I think. I'm pretty sure Wild Guns can be improved a lot, not only by using two players. NES: Blue Shadow can be improved a lot. There was a submission for it which was a lot faster but it hasn't been published yet. I haven't seen it actually so maybe it's not any good. Cobra Triangle can be improved. A good idea would be to choose one goal - all speed or all points - and stick with that goal. In the current version it changes depending on level.

I'd like to see some more action on the Genesis arena, so I'll comment some of the suggestions there: Michael Fried: 05 Shining Force 02 Shining Force II I think someone was experimenting with these. Was it Nifboy maybe? 04 Sonic the Hedgehog In progress soon, hopefully. 07 Phantasy Star IV Highness tried out PS2. I'm not familiar with the series. 08 Zero Wing Just on the list because of the All Your Base phenomenon. A speed run wouldn't be interesting, probably. 09 Streets of Rage III In progress by atro city. 02 Shaq-Fu Done and submitted but for SNES. Boring. 04 Urban Strike This could be interesting maybe. As well as the rest of the Strike-series. 05 Valis III 08 Ooze, The 09 Arch Rivals 10 Shadowrun Don't know about these games. Sleepz suggested: -Ecco 1 & 2 (I don’t see one up yet) I have plans to do at least Ecco 1 some time. FODA did a couple of levels but I'm sure they can be improved. Ecco can go at silly fast speed, so it should be fun. -Vectorman 1 & 2 Zer0 did an attempt at V1. I didn't think it looked like a very exciting choice for a TAS. -Castlevania: Bloodlines Could be good. And everyone seems to like Castlevania, no matter how many runs there are. -One of the Shinobi’s I'm planning on doing Shinobi3. -X-men 1 & 2 X-men 2 has been done many times by /*-, each improving a little. It has some quirks which makes it interesting. I don't know about 1. -MK 2 or 3 with Shang Tsung (This could be crazy!) It could and would. Highness had plans for doing MK2 but on SNES. There are huge desynch issues which I'm not sure wether they are solved yet or not.

You can jump trough it (well, anything) most of the time, I think. There isn't always a wall. Some levels just loop. Some more or less require you to wrap around, but you'll never notice that you did so when you play. Unless my memory is failing me.

Well... You could hex edit the position on-screen in a save-state for the first one. And hex edit away the blocks in the ROM in the second.

Well, you didn't edit the post with future updates as you said you would. I'm not going to redownload it just to see if the file has changed lately. It's ok to doublepost (at least with me) to tell us what you have done so far. I looks like it could be very good when it's done. It's certainly looking promising at the moment. I liked the fake infighting. One thought: did you try teamattacking the agents, or is it slower? They get up kind of fast. >Only one question: I thought the sword wore out really fast, does it not lose energy when you grab before the animation for the charge attack is completed? Yes. You can see it wear down when the attack is finished all the way (which it is a couple of times). Bare Knuckle 3 had a lot more of these glitches where the weapons didn't deplete their energy, but most were weeded out for the conversion into SoR3. This one remains.

Well, that was very expected. Maybe I'll do another attempt later, trying to use the forward special more like you did. If so my bet is you'll probably go ahead and beat that time too. :) So be it.

MK2 had huge desync issues too, and this looks/sounds similar. Turning off Volume Envelope Height reading fixed most of the desync issues but it also makes the sound crap. Perhaps it works in this game too, and as you noted the sfx already sounds crap, so it doesn't matter that much.

Hehehe. Kicking the other guy into the hole on the snake level is funny.

>I see no real use in this, as jumping does not make you go any faster. Going above a field of red spheres is faster than going around it. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line.

This one will do for now. There are many small mistakes, but only one big that I can think of; against the knife-weilding psycho in the elevator, level 7. The other ones were salvageable. Final time is 34:11 if going after final hit on Mr.X (as my previous try), or 34:28 something if going by credits, as kotetsu has been doing. I'll probably try to stay away from this game now for a while until someone beats this time. (Where IS SprintGod?) So without further ado: http://133an.sytes.net/~truncated/SoR2(U)[!]9.gmv Beware of people holding trashcans, pipes or swords.

Well, I'm already down into the low 35, so you will have to do a lot better. ;) Last time I got owned by the Jets (again... why does that always happen) and words cannot describe how bad the Vehelits battle was, so I'm pretty sure I can take it down to 34. I'm not showing it just yet... Some tips: * Don't pick up the points or the extra lives. Dont even open the crates. * I don't understand why you use the throw so much. It's good for crowd control, but you use it when there's only one guy left. It's very weak compared to the double kick and the migraine. * The sword is deadly. Pipes less so, but still very useful.

All the enemies cannot be killed and all the rings cannot be taken, I think. The music idea is good too. But I think that whatever Q decides to do, there is no stopping this level from being boring. Only more or less so.

Usually I use RobotX's vulnerability when he gets up for a jumpkick or a dash. Zan's jumpkick blows, so I tried with the dash, and often get the grab. And him breaking free really hurts. I use the dash which I happen to have when i get there. Sometimes it's 1-star, sometimes no-star. But I've noticed the same thing as you with the 1-star dash. It's very useful against the ninjas and the tiger types in fact, but here it gets you killed fast. Hard mode is difficult if you go all out but not that difficult if you go slow and cheeze the computer with constant jumpkicks. Obviously that's not an option in a speedrun. On SoR2: I know about Vulture and Kusano, I just flubbed it. You are right about the Jet and Bear on stage 5. Especially Bear, he's a real bitch sometimes. I really don't know how to handle him with Max if I don't have a sword or pipe. Bear Jr is a lot easier because he doesn't have the grab protection when he gets up. You can tackle Barbon and Zamza, but i don't know of a consistent way of getting them to block it. Usually they will just take the hit and fall, and I don't like the position that they get into after that. I have done two more tries now and got it down to 37 minutes something, but there's always some part that I mess up on. Last time it was the Abadede grabbing trick... got thrown, chestslammed and uppercutted, and lost a life. BOTH TIMES. I thought I would have my revenge in the elevator. I'll do one or two tries more and upload the best one.

>it seems to me that you could've thrown the mechakoopa earlier and have it hit Bowser in the head on the way down and you would've saved a couple frames on last input. Is there any reason that you didn't do this? Yeah, you can do that. That's actually how the first version looked. But enough of us bugged him about it so he changed it. It looks very strange to finish the game slower just so you can stop the movie earlier.

I have been trying to speedrun SoR3 for a while on Hard with Zan, but I always get owned by RobotX by accidentally grabbing him when I do the forward tackle. So this was a lot less frustrating. http://133an.sytes.net/~truncated/SoR2(U)[!].gmv I used Max (higher damage output = faster) and finished in 39 minutes somewhere. This is the first try, I'm sure I can do a lot better. I'll do another attempt later. In normal there is really no danger of ever dying so you can use the forward special a lot more to gain time. I need a good way to handle the jets. I know I can just stand in front of them and jump+punch, but that's slow. The Robots can easily be grabbed in normal, I shouldn't have to use the sword the first time.

Actually I felt kind of guilty that i tricked you into doing this game and then dropped out. But seeing how good the result turned out, and how much better you played (a lot better than I would have done anyway, probably), I changed my mind.

Boco: I was thinking something along those lines too. I didn't want to destroy my inner image of how people were by linking them with a physical appearance, which in turn is almost always linked with some preconceived notion. But yeah. I found that I couldn't help clicking all the links to find out what people looked like anyway. So I thought I'd return the favor. Saturn: Macaulay Culkin You, me, outside, now. >:/

It's been a good while, and a lot of topics still haven't been converted into polls. I just thought I'd ask what's going on.

Oh no. The voices of the people who have tried to correct our ways over the months here, the experienced players who told us we were destroying gaming, are coming back to haunt me. Why didn't we listen in time? What have we done? What irrepairable damage have we caused by our foolish ways? *cough* Seriously though, I can't say I have this problem either. Sure it's fun to waste a life now and then trying to perform some crazy deathdefying trick, and sometimes it even works. But for normal playing I don't use savestates. Exceptions have been to beat some childhood game I could never get trough (I still can't beat Battletoads though), or to be able to resume playing next day without keeping the computer on all night.

>Is 'turnout' incorrect or confusing, because 'turn out' already has other meanings, such as 'to shut off' or 'to be found to be?' Yeah, it would be very very confusing if the other meaning was "a large number of people gathered for no particular event or purpose" or some other close meaning which you were actually trying to differentiate the original word from.

>Logically speaking, an appeal to popularity is a fallacy. In science and other types of facts, yes. No matter how many people think the world poofed into existence 6000 years ago, there would still be huge amounts of evidence for million-year evolution. But languages are different. Words actually have no meaning other than what people assign to them. The word gay is an excellent (if tired) example. A hundred years ago everyone would have agreed that gay meant happy or glad. If I remember correctly Winnie the Pooh is described as walking gayly (spelling?) down the road in one of the books. If you ask people now everyone would agree it means homosexual. So that's what it means. Happy isn't the "real" meaning of the word. Words have no real meaning other than the one currently agreed upon.
