Yeah, I've seen a Super Mario Bros. 1 video that aimed for the least points possible (500, btw. You get twice that from a single mushroom!) ...Keep in mind, it was the concept that was interesting, not the video ;P That said, I'm intrigued as to how many rings you really can avoid... --Wow, I found some of the acrobatics and routes taken pretty entertaining, but the movies definitely lack optimization. S3&K is obviously the best choice, with the shields providing some bonus flexibility, but yes I'll agree that this isn't the sort of movie that would belong on this site as a published movie. As a fun little side project, though, it'd be sure interesting to watch a completed product.

If you fix the controllers and Beast still shows up, just restart the movie and it should work. That's how it worked for me. Fun movie, too.

hehe yeah, I can save 2-3 frames by glitching out of the screen when it finally finishes and then another few frames by avoiding lag. And then one of the non-autoscroll areas will be sped up by the glitch, and then the first of the last two bosses can save a couple frames by being dead-on on the last two punks. Hopefully the last boss will be weak to the volt-less spark like bosses 3 and 4 were, so maybe some time saved there. but I think to hit the 25 minute mark I'll need to squeeze more improvements from earlier in the movie, and then somehow fix the desyncing. I'm hoping that once I fix the desync it's just a matter of repetition to get the rest to work; it won't exactly be fun, but it's inarguably possible. Hmmm. What I could do is figure out when it automatically lags itself, delete every one of those frames, hex-edit in the improved areas like 1-Bonus and 3-First Boss, and then force frames back in on the frames where it auto lags....that'd be a good start hopefully, and then all I can think of is that perhaps during real game lag frames it might desync... well it won't be easy no matter what. OH BTW IM, for your unglitch run, I found a trick for ya: in the last non-boss area of stage 5 you can dash THROUGH the first two angled floors by starting from the straight ground next to it, it's especially speedy at the very start of the stage. It's fun! Try it! All the cool kids are doing it! ...anyway yeah, One time I went right through one of the angled floors while falling but I haven't since replicated it. Anyway, updated my sig, it goes a little ways into 7-2

I almost didn't watch because of the name, but it turns out it's Adventure Island! Awesome, I've always wanted to see someone beat the everloving crap out of this game! I loved hating this game's guts when I was much much younger. I never even got to 8-1 so watching this very well done movie was a balst. Easy yes. Finding the rom took forever, though, my usual site had the game's various roms grouped under H for Hudson's rather than A for Adventure, which I'm so glad I decided to check. GRA.

The glitching does work differently a lot of the time, sometimes a simple <>, <, <>, > well go and sometimes you have to hold those keys one or two frames to get the earliest shot, so there are definitely times when it seems I go left more than usual. Then there are times where I'm merely waiting for Pulseman to jump higher than some obstacle, so it doesn't really matter how far left I go before I slingshot back. AND there are times where I intentionally don't jump high enough to drop short so I can get better placement or, more importantly, not run into a meanie, but I'm sure you already figured that. Basically, though, I always do the ASAP method first, and if Pulseman doesn't turn around and fly right I hold an extra frame for one of them until it works. (And then there's the high probability that when I STARTED the run I was less experienced at what I'm doing, that's highly HIGHly noticable in my DoaE run haha) But anyway YEAH progress has been slower recently, the autoscrollers autoKILL if you press A while glitching, so I've gotta dance the whole time like in your low-glitch version. I start the level around 17 minutes into the movie and I'm not entirely sure whether I'll be done at the 25 minute mark because of those darn autoscrollers! But yeah, I'll post V1 of the finished version when it's ready for ya. Oh and Truncated: You're right! Thanks for catching that, I'll use the proper rom from now on since the movie works perfectly on it as well.

Yeah, it's a pretty long movie, being an RPG and all, I'm in no hurry to bug anyone to publish and encode and all and all this (as you can see by this being my only post here so far), but for a long time DoaE fan like myself I have fun watching my own work here, if only for the sheer good 'luck' throughout the whole thing; luck being one thing that tends to not stick around me too long in games ;P As for Liu Bei, you know he can't stick around for too long because he doesn't gain life at levelups (which takes time anyway, one of the reasons why I skip Huang Zhong, Zhang Bao, and Guan Xing, which would otherwise be extreeemely stupid haha)

Wow, I've never played this game, but it contained a ton of themes (and music!) from the previous Wonderboy games that I've loved in the past, and with such a solid looking game this looks like an awesome game to play. That made this movie extra fun to watch, on top of the blatantly exxxxcellent play and route planning. Too bad the main character and text displaying are pretty slow paced, but, hey, that's what fast forward is for! FF or not, though, the movie was entertaining the whole way through, the time just breezed by. In short, loved it!

I've been forgetting to update my sig, sorry. I'm through the stage 6 boss now, though I'm gonna redo the fight. And I think the first fight with the guy in stage 3 can be done faster using the technique used on the end boss and boss 4. And part of me wants to see if I can get that last little bit of Bonus Stage 1 just right after all. But otherwise YEAH. Goin great. Oh and save states included this time. I haven't hit the 17 minute mark yet, so 25 minutes for the whole thing may just still be possible.

The thing with WarioWare is that the boss games are the ONLY ones not on a timer, whether you win or lose they all take exactly five seconds. Throw in the fact that you can't skip any of the cutscenes and you've got a terrible game to TAS. It's an awesome game, sure, but unless you can pull off some crazy moves for all 100+ microgames you play, there's no way anyone's going to pay attention the whole way. I watched until nearly the second Jimmy, though, and didn't see a whole lot that didn't look like you did it (or could have done it) at full speed.

Updated. I increased the time on the boss by 99 frames and the time on the bonus stage by *1* FRAME OMG! The part that REALLY matters is a new glitch at the start of stage 4, with the "Water Can Destroy Pulseman Haw Haw Haaw" cutscene. Get the movie of it NOW while you still can, because, uh, it actually takes another 51 frames to get through this way, so it's not going in the final product ;P

Heh, I played a version of this for Intellivision a LOT when I was younger. That glitch where you float in the air on stage 3 was cool, yeah, but then again you stay in the top tier of stage 3 the entire time! And yet, going anywhere else really wouldn't have done you any good, either. Nothing much else to say but nice try, but you picked a less-than-interesting game to run. Find another game and good luck with it.

I never played the game, but this movie was still amazing to watch! The movement is absolutely flawless and the battles are perfect! This movie deserves a yes vote from me and a good hearty publishing for sure! Top of the line job.

Alright, I'm all caught up to where v1.0 ended, that being the end of Stage 2 and its bonus stage. I'm 879 frames ahead of it, even! AND YES, I GOT THAT STAGE 2 BOSS IN ONE ROUND *pants, faints, falls over*

Signature updated with Version 2.0 through the end of stage 1. Everything just plain looks better, and I've gained 5 seconds (304 frames) over my first go. I use the movement glitch during nearly every possible scenario, including the boss fight. But, man, I gotta tell ya, rewatching this glitch movie so much while checking for desyncs or better routes is a PAIN ON THE EYES

My latest version beats my previous by one and a half more ;) 'cept the crazy game likes to desync at the slightest notice. Fixing desyncs is an incredibly tedious process, so far I've just redone everything twice, and now I'm redoing the movie altogether anyway BAH! OH and typo. My movie only goes through stage 2, hence the apparent desync.

Alright, yeah, that's what I was thinking, but I was just wanting to make sure. Thanks! K. I've posted my work so far to my signature, I'm going to restart to use that l+r business, do a bit better job with my dashes, and clean up the bonus stages. And spend a couple days figuring out that level 2 boss, that jerk can't seem to be taken down in one round! >: (

I'm up to the first bonus stage, it'll probably look just the same as Ideamagnate's, he did a great job. http://www.twistedeye.net/pulseman/Pulseman-Twisted%20Eye.gmv My movie is ahead by over a minute already, a 30% improvement, because of that movement glitch! ~7 seconds are saved from the boss fight in a couple ways*, and ~2 seconds are saved from using the glitch AFTER the fight (must see ;P ), but the rest is that wacky glitch, which is going to get even more helpful at certain points later on, so I'm looking to be under 25 minutes for the total run at this rate! * It so turns out that something I've suspected for a long time is true after all: Different attacks do different amounts of damage! I don't have any exact amounts, but I'm guessing that the backflip and the sweeping kick do less than a slice and a projectile, which I believe do even less the volteccer and also that little spurt you get if you try to volt but don't have a charge. It was proven first by my last hit, I went back and tried it as a backflip instead to be different and it didn't KILL HIM, but the spurt like originally DID. So after this, I compared the amount of hits in my movie (which used NO backflips) to Ideamagnate's (which used several) and it turns out I hit that hand boss 4 less times! EDIT: Backflip took 21 hits to kill, everything else took 11, so only backflip is different at all. A standing attack while underwater seems to only do half damage, also (pops up in s4a1 only), but otherwise, every possible form of attack does exactly the same amount of damage. OH. And I'm not using the Left+Right glitch, I'm not 100% sure whether it is allowed or not, so if it is agreed to let it go, I'll use it to optimize the movie later. I'll keep going on my merry way for now. Oh. And after this point I'll just put updates into my sig if this thread continues to not get responses--no need bumping it over and over, especially now that I have enough posts to vote on submissions ;P

Well ya know what, I've decided I don't really want to wait for the glitched-out run, and after playing around with it through the whole game one time I've decided I'll make the movement-glitch-centered movie! I've already done S1A1 here, and afterwards I show a couple glitches I found when Pulseman gets stuck in a wall because of volting while glitching. http://www.twistedeye.net/pulseman/Pulseman-Twisted%20Eye.gmv It finishes the stage at just over 47 seconds into the movie--I don't know how this compares to Nitsuja's and Ideamagnate's previous glitch runs through the area, so I'm ready for all improvement ideas! One glitch I don't show here yet is that in some areas where you leave the room horizontally, it'll let you leave early if you volt-glitch, like, even if Pulseman hasn't physically left the room yet. It doesn't seem to work in s1a1, but later on it's pretty useful! One great fact about the glitch: You can do it from nearly the very frame you come out of a dash if you hold right, making dashing even faster for static-charging than running, and you can do it in any confined space. This run's gonna have a looooot of dashing ;P EDIT: I think I just found a way to make the glitch even more powerful: Right after you jump from the skid: <>, <, <>, where <> is left and right at the same time and < is just left. This eliminates the need to wait 8-10 frames going up before you can glitch to the right, which can add some more distance to each jump and make me totally redo what I've done. Question is whether this makes the movie unpublishable due to having to press both at once, meaning no longer possible on the console. That extra little bit really does change the paths I take, so I need to figure out whether to continue the old glitch way or the new...

It took a long time to realize that both controllers, not just number 2, had to be set to gamepad, silly me. When it worked, it revealed a great movie, and understanding that only certain blocks give out powerups excuses what seemed to be wasted time destroying other bricks, I gladly give this a yes vote!

So after my Destiny of an Emporer run (now submitted check it out and vote ;P ) I didn't want to quite do another run of something yet, but thinking about games I used to play a lot, this one came to mind. Mainly because I never beat it, the controls (heck, the game altogether) sucked. And yet at the same time I thought it might be interesting. The game is in two halves: Driving and Walking, and Driving. Both top-down views. Driving, you avoid baddies, throw dynamite, and look for caves, the shop, and eventually the exit which is opened by purchasing an arena pass at a shop. Bartering is done with food and water found in the caves, where the Walking part takes place. You just walk around with your gun, avoiding baddies, shooting them, and collecting items. Doors require keys to open....usually. The second Driving I mention above is the arena. You're driving the whole time and have to kill 30 cars. (second time 40 last time 50). I'm not quite sure how I'll optimize this half but I think what I did was pretty entertaining so I'll base it off of it. ANyway this section sucks because you don't have dynamite so you have to push them off cliffs or into pits that open and close, or just Destruction Derby them until they pop! And then it's back to the other style, etc. 3 rounds of each, alternating, and then a final boss which is totally different from the rest of the game, and then 'the end.' When messing with the game I found a glitch during the cave sections: holding left+right (and with down held or not) and firing causes Max to just sit and fire repeatedly but with no bullets coming out or ammo being lost. No big. Holding up+down (and left, and left+right as well) and firing causes the game to CRASH. Like right then and there it all goes POOF. No help at all. But holding up, right, and down and firing causes the game to glitch the whole time you hold the buttons down. At random I got it to seriously freak out twice and cause three Maxes on screen at once, I'm trying to recreate it on 'film' but ANYWAY-- the important part of this glitch is that locked doors that I am touching on the north side will OPEN when messed with while glitching out the game, eliminating a need for a key. (I demonstrate this at the end of the movie) ANYWAY! The following movie shows that the game is much shorter and even more entertaining than I'd thought when played right so it might not make a bad run after all. I here have optimized the first driving section and go through the arena section largely at full speed but still got a fine movie. I'll redo it of course. And then in the second driving area I find a cave to specifically show off the glitch, I haven't decided which cave is best for the fastest run. http://www.twistedeye.net/doae/MadMax.fcm

haha, that was very entertaining to watch! I'd tried that game out a while ago, and this really nailed it down better than I thought it would! Everything was done so precisely and perfectly, and yet at the same time whipping out ways to simply entertain, like that rolling crash in level 12 especially. And the bonus levels were all done differently AND in interesting ways! JXQ's 2x speed idea made it even better, though not entirely necessary ;P Yessa from me!

Bah. Getting through the rest is tougher than I thought because of Si Ma Yi's 40000 health and the fact that even with the really strong Bo Ye on one guy I'm still doing only 700 or so to him at best per hit, so it's taking a loooong time, and I need to keep Ji Mian up for most of it! Gah. In the meantime, I found an weird, unhelpful glitch relating to death in the game. http://www.twistedeye.net/doae/DoaE%20Glitch.fcm

Aw man, I've played this game SO many dozens of times over the years haha what a classic. You played this so WELL! You used a lot of really cool looking tricks above and beyond making guys fall off of cliffs out of their own free will And 2:40 improvement? ohhhbaby, definite yes vote. Awesome work!

FINAL UPDATE: Sun Quan is no more. http://www.twistedeye.net/doae/Destiny%20of%20an%20Emperor8.zip <==Allow the save states to overwrite, the old Liu Zheng one is obsoleted Getting off work 4 hours early today let me catch up easy! I have redone everything through Sun Quan and am 3 good minutes ahead of where I was last, with the changes I made looking to save a little more time even before I finish it all up! With An Sha in my corner, the only thing slowing me down is a lot of walking and the unfortunate fact that Cao Pi and Si Ma Ya are unaffected by the tactic as far as I know (I'll try anyway, it wasn't working on Sun Quan no matter what, though, so I doubt it). 25 minutes to do 20 battles, only 5 of which contain Pi or Ya, so I'm thinking 2 hours shouldn't be a problem at all! *hi-fives FozzBozz's avatar* NEXT UPDATE is just going to be doublechecked wholly and then submitted! This should be done before the weekend easily. Yay!
