Is it impossible to kill a Bella Sister during bonus time?
Killing a Bella Sister during a bonus chest does not increase the score if they are #3 or higher in the combo. More bonus points are gained racking up the Ganado count (+300 each).

That won't do! I'd better TAS what I want using custom memory card from there and than wait (years) until somebody make a VM for mе or until I come up with a good mood to make it myself.
There is a Dolphin issue #8967 regarding inability to start .dtm with a memory card save on Wii. I would not recommend making a TAS and then a verification movie later. I found that in my Mercenaries run no gamefaqs savestates would sync to my .dtm file (which came off my own GC card). The verification I made did sync (fortunately). Therefore "something" in the memory card file impacts syncing, and verification made later may or may not sync.

Your INI only has the 3 cheats that shouldn't be enabled.

The tracks load with that INI file. Now, it still desyncs for me somewhere after the "Chapter 3" title. You view some unlocked item, there is a long pause at a menu, and the Chapter 3 race goes south when the car turns left when the track goes right (around input 75000). I'd post a video but frame dump crashes my program. I enabled each of the three cheats from right click the game/properties/action replay codes.

It's here! The Verification movie file. All Racers, Parts, Cups, Tracks, Ghosts, Cutscenes, Story Missions and Difficulties are unlocked and ready. I used Dolphin 4.0-3089 with the Vertex Shader Gen Hack restored. This allows for cutscenes to be rendered again. Enjoy me driving badly just to get this done. WIP File: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/17442047075395814
I tried playing it with the cheat INI file and when the first race starts the track doesn't load. Without the INI file, it desynced at around 75000 frames.

I'd like to see more of this. Stage 7-1, if the 2nd scarecrow ISN'T shot while inflated, leads to a zone with ReDead Knights that can be shot several times in the body for massive multipliers.

Hi Dimon, 1. Possibly? You can try yourself, determine number of frames to shoot one door, turn, and shoot the other vs. shooting doors straight in front of you. I do know the Killer7 can't shoot through 2 doors at once. 2. The links I provided are not tool assisted, just very skilled players playing very well while also getting very lucky with grenade drops :) They always gather the maximum number of enemies onscreen before grabbing a bonus chest timer, so they can start with a quick 10 kills. You should read Baxter's scoring guide linked from my submission text. I don’t think getting hit is intentional. It may lower the difficulty and improve ammo drops, but that isn’t something you should need while TASing. 3. I'd recommend just following the example videos for your first few runs. Don't try to play perfectly until the route is optimized. This is because playing frame by frame perfection is so time consuming you will not live long enough to build the best route. Just get the hang of the controls, get used to luck manipulation to the point where you can get a grenade drop from any single enemy. Practice getting long range critical pistol headshots using TAS input feature/frame advance. I don't know what the optimum TAS route would be, it will take several attempts. For example, when you use the fast pistol you’ll find the bonus timer still has time remaining at the point it ends in the example videos, so you need to find where you can effectively use the extra time to get the most kills. Once you gain more skill and can get through the game faster, it will be better to skip some of the time extensions, so you are not waiting for 55 seconds for the timer to run out. When I started the TASing the castle, my first few attempt took about 5 days, and the last took about 2 months, two weeks of which was just working on the end of the 1st bonus chest. This is after I already knew the level quite well after playing it way too much in my earlier life. PS: Yes, that is a good memory file to use since it has been verified by Fog, and you won't have to deal with that headache :p Do post WIPs regularly, it is better to get told about improvements early versus later, as you know. I’ll watch it if I can whether you post tomorrow or three months from now, but there is no rush, no pressure. Also, you will not succeed your first attempt, or even your 6th (please accept this), but if you keep going at an easy pace, redoing entire runs and partial runs as you look back and notice improvements, you will eventually get to the point where it will extremely difficult to improve upon by anyone, including yourself. Be patient, there is no hurry… that’s what I like so much about TAS: You can work as slow as you want, and still maintain life :) Take care.

Dimon12321: I'll post here vice youtube's commentary. If/when you want to try Mercenaries I'd suggest Wesker in the Village. A perfect score in the fastest time (by frames, not game clock) should be an achievable ultimate goal. Perfect score would mean all enemies except Bella Sisters (chainsaw) killed during the bonus chests, giving 210400 points. There are 124 total enemies. Derek Taylor's 207100 (Wesker) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6_et1ydDb8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7-FpItfMN4 Wesker can't kill the Bella Sisters quickly, but can dispose of the Another option is Hunk, who can neckbreak the Bella Sisters, but relies heavily on slow acting grenades and weaker TMP for regular enemies: Village 207400 (Hunk): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3sSe7mhrD8 The Waterworld is a stage that may be similar to the Castle in that a perfect score may not be achievable, so I'd consider time less of a priority. Wesker is the best choice in this stage.

I'm updating the submission with this file, right? I only don't know how we could set the proper time in the database then.
Yes, please replace with Fog's file, and replace "verify edit (test1)" with "timer end" in file name. Movie length is 49460/60=824.33s=13min 44.33s.

I added actual time to the final melee attack to my results in description, similar to Numerics' SSBM run http://tasvideos.org/2505M.html, since after that point no further input is required to get the same result screen.

Fog: The original length was chosen to make it convenient for encoding. I could add a note to my description saying "Actual length required is 23764 frames=49460 VI= 13:44.33," or request the movie length be changed. I am fine with your movie truncation if it effects judging. Movie length wasn't on my priorities, as it was in conflict with the game clock I was running against. I requested a length change earlier due to an obvious mismatched 6:XX result given.

This. Because of that, this run is not a "single level", but as "single minigame" one, which has nothing against our traditions. Normal games keep going after you beat one level, and show you the ending after you beat them all. Here it doesn't even matter if you beat all, half, or one, the only difference is statistics. So I'd accept this run as is, and it will be possible to obsolete it with a run that beats all the maps, if anyone makes such, or with one that just improves the current map or score. Opinions?
I agree that this run could be obsoleted with a higher score in the same level, and that this run should be considered a single minigame. I disagree that a run showing all four maps should obsolete an individual map "single minigame". It would lead to difficult sync problems, since the RNG may not sync over run completion, and the chain of verification files could grow. Hypothetical example submissions: 1. Castle 411770 2. Village 210400 (perfect) in 5:35 3. Base 170900 (perfect) in 8:14 4. Waterworld 227400 (perfect) in 10:15 5. (obsoletes 1 thru 4). All 4 Maps synced into a single dtm. 6. (obsoletes 5). Improves Castle to 483000 (perfect) in 12:15, synced with the other three maps from publication 5. Since improvements to an all-maps run would rely on syncing with all but one of the previously published dtm files (unless someone wanted to redo/improve all maps with each improvement) they should not be combined. Result of viewing four separate movies as opposed to one combined movie is three more views of the main opening screen, fewer verification movied needed, and improvements to a single map would be much easier to incorporate (leading to better end results).

5 Characters, 4 maps, so 20 combos to potentially cover, so approx 3-4 hours worth. I for one wouldn't enjoy that as a single movie, nor would I enjoy having 20 different publications on the GC list. I suggest just creating an RE4 resources/records page, and just link individual movies on that, similar to BTT records on SSBM pages.
Why not fastest character for each map? You don't have to worry about all of those combinations.
I think the max number of Mercenaries runs accepted on this site should be 4 (one for each map), whether they are in multiple submissions (my preference) or one submission if they are built over time. Any given map will only have one high score, or one "perfect score in fastest time." Another consideration is differences between regional versions of the game. For example, on Base (Stage 3), this USA version has 101 total enemies. The PAL or JPN version has 117 enemies. The perfect USA score (170900) is less than the world record JPN/PAL real-time score (186900), as such I wouldn't recommend TASing USA Base or including it in an all-maps submission.

Synced the run, now I have questions. How would putting several maps completions in one movie look? The submission says the levels are independent, I presume the game kind of ends at a single map completion, and then how is it resumed on the next map?
Yes, after a map is completed it shows you the results screen, then anything you've unlocked. After, it returns to The Mercenaries title screen, where you can then select any unlocked character and map again. Example video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rfeWgHTRs4

Also, other maps require more unlocking/verification stuff, right?
No, all four maps are playable after the Main Game is completed. However, further verification would be required to unlock any other character, if say, someone wanted to make a similar submission using Ada.
feos wrote:
Is there any difference in the endings after beating one map, and after beating all? This is all only about Mercenaries.
No, each just ends with a results screen and an unlock screen(as applicable), similar to the example video above. The possible unlocks are the four characters, and the Handcannon as seen at about 06:30 in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wb8JdUgtdEg

I'm sorry, thank you for trying. Did it desync at the same point as before (about 21k frames, after grabbing the cat)? My runs were made using dumped DSP files. I just installed a fresh Dolphin 4.0.2 x64 with the included DSP files and played the movie past that point without issue.

I re-did the verification as follows: Disc 1 is unchanged. I've replaced the Disc Two verification with two files. Disc 2 Part 1 uses JITIL (until before desync caught by Fog, where I save and end the movie) Disc 2 Part 2 uses JIT for the rest of the Main Game. Unlock Wesker is the same, just renamed since it is now the 4th verification file. It uses JITIL no problems.

I tried redoing the Disc 2, starting from before the desync during the fight with "It" until defeating Krauser, periodically loading and replaying to make sure sync is maintained. Then I tried playing the DTM file from the beginning, and got another similar desync during the "It" fight, where he pops out from the ceiling at a different time and kills Leon once again, a few seconds later than the desync I tried to fix. It seems this is related to save-state loading altering the RNG and "It's" timing. Since playing the movie through every time I pick up the run isn't an option, I will re-do Disc 2. Hopefully switching from JITIL back to JIT (used on Disc 1) from the beginning will eliminate this tendency to desync next go around. 8fps is fine for TAS but sure makes casual gameplay a drag :( Edit 6/12/2014: Instead of redoing Disc 2 I saved to memory card before the desync fight with "It", completing Disc 2 Part 1 dtm file. I'm now creating Disc 2 Part 2 using JIT. Progress: Complete, and syncs with submission. Now I am playing through each movie to ensure it all still works.

Ugh, I know I played my verification run through twice... something went amiss. I have the same desync as Fog. Looks like I'll need to redo the end of my Disc 2 verification file (about 6 hours of play time). Thanks Fog and Feos for verifying Disc 1, and I apologize for missing this desync. I will yank this submission until fixed.

Thanks again, Ilari. I will re-activate this submission after uploading the verification files with new (edited) submission dtm and finishing my description. Edit 5/14/2014: Done, submission reactivated. I also added link to edited youtube video. Ready for judging!

My verification run is complete. Thankfully I only needed to hex in a couple button presses due to additional text lines at the start, but the rest syncs perfectly. The verification run consists of three DTM files due to my inability to sync over disc swap and resets. Running these in order will create the save & system memory card files necessary to sync my #4126 submission (once I update it's edited DTM). 1. Main Game Disc 1 2. Main Game Disc 2 3. Unlock Wesker Should I create one new submission containing all three files in one zip file (my preference), or a separate submission for each DTM?

Looks good, albeit I notice some flickering during cuts. Would be much easier to do if there was automated means to identify what to cut out, but I presume there isn't. :-/ Also, since this is taking so long, what about canceling this submission and when verification is ready, un-canceling it?
Thanks Ilari... set to canceled. I'll set as new when ready.

I've added an Encode with sound, much better if I do say so myself. Thanks to RachelB for the AV Sync Dolphin build and to RGamma for the Encoding Guide. I've also added a section to the submission defending the "highest score" goal. I understand examples like TETRIS where the objective is to hit the displayed score cap quickly than lose. Problem is that limit has not been found yet for this Stage because there is no "hard limit" to the Bonus Chest kills except the Kill Limit(348). If Wesker is killed, the game will display a bloody "The End" screen with the Score. This could be a method for ending the game quickly if the perfect score is ever determined and achieved, changing the Goal to "Reach Maximum Score in the Fastest Time." [Edit 2/5/2014: Thanks Ilari for the movie time fix] [Edit 2/8/2014: Adjusting submission based on very similar movie http://tasvideos.org/1419M.html] My Verification run is underway. It's kind of fun playing the Main Game again. I will periodically edit this post with my progress. [Update 5/17/2014 Verification Complete, instructions for verification added to submission]
