Hello, I have made a modified version of FCE Ultra which features "quests". A "quest" starts out in some ROM at some savestate, and has some objective (e.g. killing a boss). Making quests is a way to extract the highlights of old games. And they can be combined into courses, which turn bits of games into one big meta-game. Some quests are time attacks, so I thought I would mention the program here. I've enjoyed watching the time attack videos ever since someone sent me a link to the old SMB3 video. Here is the project webpage: http://members.cox.net/swt2/Necro/ It's pretty hacky, but pretty fun. Enjoy.

I just downloaded this timeattack/speedrun, but as soon as i load it in wmp, my screen flickers and i get 2 errors - Windows explorer as well as a WMP error - you know the popup that says such and such has encountered a problem and needs to close...my friend also gets these, so i am not alone...anyone else experiencing this or know what could be the cause?

Pretty good combinations but more variety would've been more impressive. I still don't really like fight game time attacks, but whatever. Meh vote from me.
What a Unprofessional behavious, You voted meh because you don't like fighting games timeattacks. :(
Not exactly. Another reason was that I prefer Saturn's time attack over this one. I don't see why this should be published (assuming it gets a lot of yes votes) and not his. Would you rather me vote no?

Too much use of the hurricane kick IMO (I dont believe Saturn used it as much). I think using a more entertaining method such as Saturn used during his barrel breaking stage would've been better. Pretty good combinations but more variety would've been more impressive. I still don't really like fight game time attacks, but whatever. Meh vote from me.

Funny thing is those two videos are barely faster than the actual WR's for SSBM (they can be found at SDA).

i dont know if i'd like to see you know, a list of exactly what movie is what rank. i like the stars how they are now, its clean, stars just mean the videos are great. #1 would just mean its the absolute best of the greatest.

First of all: I have never done a time attack video, and dont post on these forums, but I am always sure to have any new published movies that are updated, and frequently read the forums. I think it is a really innovative form of entertainment. I really enjoy watching most of these movies, especially the higher quality ones, which merit a star. I was thinking, maybe, there could be a #1 video, which is the absolute best to date, the best of the curent stars. I dunno how that video would be selected...maybe everyone who has a movie which currently has a star would be eligible for a vote? From my perspective having a #1 wouldn't put to shame or belittle the other great videos, it would just be the pinnacle for which everyone making a new movie could strive for. Also, instilling a sense of awe into someone who has just found this site.

Ok so I open up Megamanx3 movie in snes9x or any other replay in snes9x, I watch it and it runs fine, but then after like 2-3 minutes it starts going all weird, for example in megaman x3 movie, he stands still and then goes into pause menu several times for no reason and then the boss kills him...Why does this happen? It happened in contra too, in the 2nd overview map they just go and loose all their life, and it's game over and nothing happens after that...

Hmm.. I was right, Bisqwit was gonna make big mistakes in the future. You can take off the MKV, really. I think a person and a half is actually using it. And 2 people and a half are actually using the OGM. Oh well. And don't any of you give me the 'bisqwit does what he wants' speech. I'm not forcing him to do anything, just a (no longer friendly) suggestion. Bye.

Is that actual movie time, or "game time?" (i.e. game time doesn't include many parts and tends to be lower) If it's movie time it has to translate to 40 minutes or less of game time...just insane, as I thought the limit for 100% had to be close to 50 minutes game time based on Red Scarlet's runs. The only way I could possibly see someone break 50 minutes for 100% is the Tourian-skipping glitch mentioned near the end of the "Super Metroid in 3 minutes" thread.
The 0:45:08 is game time. And Jecy did 0:47:04 a year ago I think. And still, my run looks really slow compared to what MF did so far, since it lacks stuff like Short Charge, Blue Suit, this aim-up-and-down acceleration thingie and so on, and I never took the time to check and optimize the frames I did in each room. So it's not as spectacular as you might imagine. I believe a 0:41 or 0:42 time is very possible.

AxeMan: AWESOME movie! I've been a Crystalis fan forever so this was a real treat for me (I didn't even get bored at the ice zombies!). I'd also be very interested in seeing a warpless run (or, at least a wild-warpless run) sometime in the future. One thing I'm sure of is that you do not have to speak to Ralph before entering Evil Spirit Island. Merely entering Joel and then exiting is enough. Should save a second or two.

Hi, Wow, what an awesome run, can't wait to see rest of it. What is the current best time for an 100% run anyways? I've done a 0:45:08 run at 100%, but it guess it's embarassingly slow and dull compared to this one. It's for ZSNES and can be downloaded here: http://www.gallantcrow.de/stuff/SuperMetroid_0-45-08_GallantCrow.zip Hmm... I guess MF's run will be finished at 0:40:xx maybe? I'm really impressed with what you've done so far. Very good job!!!

"Death is irrelevant" is properly translated to Swedish as: "Döden är irrelevant". But I guess you more likely meant "Death is inevitable" which means "Döden är ofrånkomlig".

No, it doesn't save time, but if it was possible in a scrolling level it wouldn't lose time either. It also wouldn't be the first time a player included a non-time-saving "trick" in a movie. As for difficulty, I can't really say, because I only tried it in 1-2. It is definitely not caused by slowdown and I have only had it happen when getting 30 1-UPs. I have repeated the "trick" about 4 or 5 times, and it happens each time when getting the 30th 1-UP. I suggested it only because it seemed like you were getting so many 1-ups in a row anyway. (The first run in World 8 is 19 at least.) +j

Though not technically a trick, an odd chime can be heard when a player gets 30 1-ups in a row by bouncing on enemies. This would be a nice little thing to throw into the movie, it seems, in those scrolling levels where you can't control the speed and are getting plenty of lives anyway. Something to think about?

My memory might be blurry, but I'm pretty sure that Hala only used the earthquake in one situation (described in this thread). He never used it vs. the mummy queen.
