I retract my idea of this being a concept demo. This is the fastest way on the FDS (as far as I know) and it does in fact beat the game. Regardless I already voted yes and I still vote yes.

I vote yes for a concept demo because it does in fact beat the game in the end but in a different way which isn't as comparable to Pom's. Either way, I enjoyed this thoroughly because of it's different approach to completing Super Mario Bros.

When using a gamepad, are you able to configure frame advance to a button on the gamepad? I don't remember if that is possible since my PS2 USB adaptor died out quite some time ago. If that is possible (with Mupen at least) then I think I'd start doing a couple of N64 Tases. Oh Yeah, sorry about your gamepad. It's dead now! I remember I had a PS2 controller with turbo (which isn't anything new) that allowed PSX games that didn't support the analog sticks to be able to use the left analog stick for the D-Pads movement, it wasn't perfect but it was really cool. This isn't really relevant to the topic, I'm afraid.

This will take quite a bit of planning but I'm eager to do it I just need more votes for it, for my (and your) benefit.

I (you guys) have two choices: I can fight Smoke but it takes the second player to join because the 'Toasty' guy JUST doesn't appear in a one player run. But in doing this, after the fight with Smoke, it takes me back to the character select screen but the second player is still active and has to pick a character and I have to fight/beat him to continue on. Now with this in mind, I could fight the second player in most entertaining manner possible (a close battle might be nice) so this is the first choice. The second choice would be not fighting Smoke, continuing on through the run as glitchy as possible. I can see choice one as a great possibility but I need reassurance from anyone who may be interested in this run or game. Also, to give you an update, it has progressed nicely up until this little thing.

I'm using 1.0, so I'll try 1.1 and see what happens. Edit: So far no luck. I even tried the European rom and still nothing. I hope someone can prove me wrong because I don't want to scratch off anymore plans on my list. Edit2: This is irritating, the 'Toasty' Guy comes out on other levels than 'The Portal'. I'll do some more testing and I do believe it may be possible fight Smoke. Edit3: Okay, I'm wrong, I don't think that the 'Toasty' Guy ever comes out in 'The Portal' level on a 1-player run on the SNES version. If anyone doubts this then I ask you to try it yourself and please let me know all about it.

I'm starting to believe that the 'Toasty' Guy, Dan Forden, doesn't come out in 'The Portal' level on a 1-Player run-through. I've uppercuted my opponent on 2000 different frames (or so it would seem) and still he does not appear. Whenever I test a 2-player run on 'The Portal' level, the 'Toasty' Guy comes out in like the first uppercut. Maybe it's a bug in the game or maybe there's some sort of lock-out stipulation in which depending on what I do before 'The Portal' level determines if the 'Toasty' Guy appears. Does anyone know if I'm supposed to manipulate the appearance of Smoke in the 'Living Forest' level, you know when he peeks behind the tree? I got Jade to peek but that was unintentional. Also Smoke appeared before a fight on 'The Pit II' level and told me: "You can start finding me". If anyone knows anything that could help then that would be great but in the mean time I'll still be doing tests. Edit: Okay, it's not possible for him to appear in 1-player run so if I'm going to fight Smoke I'll have to have the second controller press start in 'The Portal' (damn that is getting annoying) level and start a 2-player game, uppercut my opponent once and get the 'Toasty' guy to appear, and then press down and start on the correct frame. The biggest problem with this is that after I beat Smoke it'll take me back to the character select screen and the second player will still be active enough to have to pick a character and also that will stir up some controversy on this run so my best bet would be to either find a glitch that allows me to be able to fight Smoke 1-player (probably not likely) or not fight him at all (I hope this information doesn't annoy you like it annoys me).

Hmmm, aren't macros sort of robots... pre-programmed to run at the single hit of a button? haha
yeah, pretty much but adelikat set it up to revolve around the game with such precision, and that is what makes it feel more robotic, to me, rather than just the macros being used (not that I take credit away from you).

This, to me, is probably one of the best movies I've ever seen on this site. It was very well done to the point in which I thought an actual robot was playing. It's definately a yes vote from me.

Hey could someone try something for me? Pick Shang Tsung and try to do his pit fatality in the second level, Kombat Tomb. See if you can do it because I am seeing an inconsistency; I can not perform the pit fatality with Shang Tsung in the Kombat Tomb but I can do the pit fatality in the Pit II, the one with a burning guy in the background. If someone could try this it would help greatly. Edit: If the conclusion is the same then I have to change my plans a little which sucks because I was looking forward to what I was going but I'll make up for it. Edit2: Also with Shang Tsung it's possible to morph into someone else and do their pit fatality but you can't do a friendship or babality after that which also sucks and has forced me to do something else. Edit3: With all the pit stuff out of the way, I'd like to say the glitched fatalities are progressing nicely but there are some waiting periods, not long ones but they are apparent but they don't take anything away from the entertainment. I like to think of the waiting periods as suspense periods, only you probably know what is coming. Also, I will be taking damage here or there but only when starting up the glitched fatalities, you'll know exactly what I mean when you see it. Edit4: I'm having one hell of a time getting the 'Toasty' guy to appear in 'The Portal' stage. I've tested this with 2-players and he appears much more often but in 1-player he is very scarce, I don't even think I've seen him appear yet.

It'll mostly be for positioning my opponent in the right spot so I can perform... yeah, I'll leave it at that. Edit: I don't think it is possible at all to throw your opponent on Very Hard so maybe I'll change it to Very Easy like some of you suggested, what do you think? Also as you progress the game becomes harder so if I put it on Very Easy it will eventually be on Very Hard. On Very Easy I'll be able to toy more with my opponents more so yeah this is another request for all you MK fans.

I decided not to have Smoke or Jade appear on purpose so if it happens, it happens. I have thought about it and I'll have to use the Extra Fatality time cheat to ensure entertainment in some places so just be aware that that is what I enter on the character select screen.

any thoughts/bets on when this'll get accepted?
It's best not to talk about this, not that you can't but you'll jinx the timing, it'll take longer to get published... ...just kidding. I think it will get accepted before the end of the week and published the very next day or maybe not, who knows. All I know is that it's a very enjoyable run.

I won't miss Jade for sure but I'm still unsure about Smoke as to where I lead off after the fight with him, whether I win or lose (I'd win no matter what though). I need to know that first so I guess I better figure it out. Also using the cheat to fight Smoke will not help me because I believe the fight right after that is against Kintaro. Edit: It seems that I should check FAQs more thoroughly because I now know that after the fight with Smoke I am sent back to the character select screen and I assume I will fight the person I left off on, the one I had to fight to get to Smoke and with that in mind I am a little more sure of fighting Smoke but not entirely yet. Also, I should be able to do a glitched fatality before I fight Jade so no worries there :) . Edit2: I'm thinking of manipulating those sequences where Jade and Smoke will magically appear before the rounds start but I would like to know if you guys felt that it would be a big waste of time and would not really contribute to the entertainment value.

I'm going to start up work on this run again. There will be no WIPs but I will take as many suggestions that are worth noting. I will probably tell some of my plans but I will not spoil anything from the run which I think will be pretty spectacular if things go right. It may take a while to come out rather than the last MKII run (I think it was 3 solid days of work) so just to let you know. Edit: also I will probably upload a package of all the glitched fatalities that are possible in a single player run.

That's true, Well maybe in the next version, since most likely Grant's path is the slowest, I'll take Grant on the scenic route. Regarding towards the Trevor only route, I think it should be beaten on the fastest route possible.

Don't cancel it. Anyway, there exists the only Trevor's route. ;)
With the Trevor route, you just know it's going to be the slowest so I think the scenic route should be taken, you know the sunken city, if I remember correctly.
