Quite a few people have really enjoyed this run so I thought, what the hell. Even though I'm not that big a fan of Kirby I can say that this movie was great. It is colorful, sounds good, and overall enjoyable from start to finish. Boss fights were just hilarious. Probably one of the more redeeming games in the GBA library. Very nice movie MUGG, a very nice movie indeed. Yes vote.

Ending's still the same and I'm a bit tired of this run now so whatever. I give it a yes regardless.

It's better but why not make him kill himself in one hit instead of two? Overall, I think that it would be/look better that way.

It's not a bad run, it's got enough diversity (while being relatively short) with a good use of tactics to keep my attention up pretty good. The lag was tolerable, it actually made it seem like they were using all their strength (not really). You gave them characteristics which is always welcomed in TASes, in my opinion. The ending is a bit annoying or different (whichever you prefer) but I really don't have too big a problem with it since I can (and did) just fast-forward over nothing happening. There's really not much more that I want to say other than I enjoyed this movie for the most part, I give it a yes vote, and you'll probably receive some more shit for the ending (whether it be good or bad, I don't know. Actually, I do but that's not the point).

Allright, after how much time? I turbo'ed several thousand frames without seeing the boss kill himself.
About 11,000 frames later.

Here ya go. I fixed it for you. But I think I might have done something wrong -- it doesn't finish properly, so the ending might need to be redone.
It's supposed to be that way and it actually does complete the game it just takes some time.

Sorry to hear about the desyncs but is it really desyncing in every version? I can understand 1.5 and up but the others as well? With regards to Hard mode, I think you should go for it as it's really not anymore different than a regular run-through (I can attest for that as I've played through it before). There's only a few more enemies per stage, if any, as well as them taking more damage (maybe one more hit than usual) but the bosses stay the same. I say this, of course, when SNES9X is fixed of this error.

When recording a movie and then stopping it after a duration of time, sometimes Gens outputs a movie file with zero frames but has every rerecord you have done. It's easy to workaround by loading one of the latest save states of the movie while not in read-only mode. Edit: I think I know how I caused this bug. I was recording a movie and decided to playback a movie. So, instead of hitting stop I just went straight to Play Movie but then I hit Cancel and the emulator was still recording only it started over, from Frame 0. I hit stop and tried playing it back and it said 0 Frames and when I played it, it kept going and the input was going haywire.

Yo, this is the old run my friend which is why the setup is different. I'm not sure why this mistake was made, possibly from the published movie's description being setup a little confusing (unfinished work I see). I don't know.

What if you redo it on Snes9x 1.51? (I haven't watched it yet, btw.)
I believe I've suffered desync errors with 1.51 and that's why I strayed away from it. The sound isn't any better or worse (well, maybe a little better). We also still hear the drawn out gong sound and explosion sound effects in 1.51.

VANDAL, don't take this wrong way, but I think the movie tries to be "too much."
I wanted to show as many aspects of the game as possible: The Botched/Glitched Fatalities, The Stage Fatalities, The Hidden Characters (one being unattainable unless you want to see 50 victories or a very short run or possibly another 2-player fight segment... Hmm, gives me an idea. Nevermind), etc.
DarkKobold wrote:
From movie guidelines: Do not impose artificial restrictions on the run. Such as "I will use all weapons except this one", "I will go for both highscore and fast time" (how should we compare that run to a future one?), or "I wont jump except where it's necessary".
I really don't see what's being restricted, I only see what's being improvised. Regarding to comparing/judging the run, it's difficult to judge, yes, so I leave it up to the people to decide, is it better or worse than the last one?
DarkKobold wrote:
Right now, the movie is: "I will go for all but one of the hidden characters, complete the game with all flawless victories except two player battles, show of all glitched fatalities, except when I want to show a normal one, and complete in the fastest time except for all the extra fights."
Like I've stated, the last hidden character is much more tedious to get to than the others. The others are more on the way or at least have something special in store. Getting hit by the CPU is bad looking so I avoided it, while in 2-player fights, anything should go or otherwise you get a one-sided fight (which everyone complained about). I haven't even scratched the surface on the Glitched Fatality possibilities and the reason why is the horrible waits and positioning that must be taken under advisement. So instead I did quick (possibly cheap) ones with somewhat interesting effects (one may be great while one may suck). That one normal one was optional and so I took it. I've stated why in my last post. The fastest time? Sure, I go and attack my opponent pretty much head on in the regular fights and setup the secret/last characters/bosses for a good ass kicking but that's not the fastest time. My recollection of the fastest time is using Liu Kang's Bicycle Kick or certain combo's over and over again.

The movie is great, but the majority of the comments are because the movie lacks focus. Someone says you didn't go for enough hidden characters, another says you shouldn't go for any. One person says You didn't show enough glitched fatalities, another says you showed too many.
My general goal was to entertain you. Most fighting games should be granted leniency, leniency to do a variety of things instead of, you know, the 'fastest time' (I kind of take that freedom too far, though). The majority of the comments are good and only a few people (one being an MKII veteran) have questioned things so I'm not sure of this being a movie lacking focus (I don't really feel like repeating myself). Sorry to nitpick but who said I didn't go for enough hidden characters? Those who say I shouldn't go for any hidden characters have valid opinions but what's done is done. I think what you/they mean about not showing enough Glitched Fatalities is that I didn't show enough good ones, in their opinion (in my opinion, they're fair, some being boring while others have effects that other's don't. It's a good blend but not a great blend, apparently).
DarkKobold wrote:
I have my personal preferences of what you should be shown, but because there are no definitive goals, all the judging has been purely opinion based. You've unfortunately left a lot of room for criticism due to not setting defined goals.
Most judging is opinion based on fact. I really have no say with that defined goal one (otherwise I'd end up repeating myself).
DarkKobold wrote:
My idea is that if you want to do a 100% run in fastest time, do that. No fatalities, just pure speed and great combos. If you want to do a glitched fatality run, do that. Crash the damn game with the last fatality. Don't make the fights interesting at all, morph into Johnny Cage at the start of every fight, kill the opponent in a quick repetitive manner (less time waiting to transform back), than demonstrate an entertaining fatality.
That first goal is ridiculous, that's restriction for you. The second goal is even worse but hey, whatever. I know you were just theorizing or were just saying and not attacking me but I'm having a hard time understanding your overall point. I don't really know what else to say other than I'm not attacking you either but answering your reply with what I can say as well as some confusion.

Did you read that, VANDAL?
Yeah, I even said something about that a little ways up (not entirely what was stated but it's still something)

Can you do the Baraka through the wall trick without destroying the game?
The one from Dark Fulgore's movie? Yeah, I don't believe it destroys the game but it does mess up the screen pretty badly. There's also one with Baraka where if you do his Stabbing, Lifting Fatality as close as possible; jump towards your opponent and as soon as you land, finish inputing the fatality. The effect is the screen scrolls, I believe, diagonally or vertically but freezes the game. Still, pretty cool.

The only thing I don't like in this video is that you use Shang Tsung's soulstealer fatality. Again. :( IIRC, his second one was much cooler.
The reason I did that one is because I couldn't use any other button than Low-Kick (to fight Jade). Since the other requires High-Kick, it's just not possible.

I can't speak for the others, but I like glitches, and the better glitches in this game involve fatalities.
If I have to redo (I hate having to say that; the run loses all integrity when I say that) then I'll throw in only the best Glitched Fatalities, ones worth noting; unique ones, and the rest of the run will be pure ownage and regular good fatalites. I'll also keep the 2-Player fights to a minimum of one fight, 3 rounds, like before.

I really don't think Smoke and Jade are necessary, either....
I shoot for an all aspects run or at least as many aspects as tolerable. And tell me, if you've ever fought them, that you got owned by them. Isn't it nice to see it the other way around, with actual fighting instead of cheap shots? Besides, if I stop fighting them, it'll be like the old run which I find to be sub-par.

Hmm... I didn't like this one. It's well done, but it's way too long.
Funny thing is, I thought the old run wasn't long enough (not that I wanted to make an ultra long run, hell, I didn't even look at the duration until I was done) but that's probably because I usually fast-forward through transitions making it seem quicker.
pirate_sephiroth wrote:
I think you should experiment more with the fatalities... some are really boring, like Johnny Cage's or Reptile's....
The fatalities were pretty low priority and most of the good ones that I know of take too long to accomplish; I don't want to bore the viewer over and over again with an overly long waiting period (a short one's not too bad as long as I do 'something'). Honestly, they'd be hell of a lot more worthwhile if it were possible to unmorph but what can you do.

You forgot Sub Zero's, it was really impressive on the previous run.
The Sub-Zero one? That was from the second version run wasn't it? Get with the times, man! :)

Also, that severe glitch where the screen flickers was bad... if I remember correctly, there was one with Kitana's kiss that had a similar or better effect.
Since there was only one more instance of a glitched fatality possible, I thought it'd be interesting to go out with a bang and really annoy or surprise the viewer. Either reaction is good :). I don't recall one being with Kitana or at least I didn't show it off. I'm sure it's possible since Rayden's Electrocution has similar effects as Kitana's Kiss of Death.

On the other hand, that Jax shaped blood figure was awesome!
That's also in the current published run which I was totally surprised by when I did it. Who knew that Jax's fatalities were so eerie? If this run gets rejected (which is still very possible) then I'll know what to improve upon (not that I want to see it rejected, I'd actually like to see it sit in queue forever so it'll keep me at bay on not redoing it either way. Nah, I'm kidding). Seems that fighting games have really high standards (not really) but that's okay, it becomes more challenging to find out what everyone would want to see.

After checking out this run, I think it's improvable but not by much. Maybe with a little more planning on what hearts to get exactly, more testing on what's the utmost quickest way of doing something and removing lag as much as possible could stretch another good improvement. Don't get me wrong, this is absolutely great as it is and I vote yes as it's an improvement worth noting.

Unfortunately you also forget to turn "quick demo display" to off in the options menu. It takes 2 frames to do and then skips that little short cutscene at the beginning there. Hopefully you can hex edit this in. Both boss battles looked great though, great manipulation on them. One thing I wanted to just let you know is that opening 30 "gem/point containing candles" will give you the blue powered up whip also. This means that there might be some opportunities to take damage to save time if you ever find you have a long space between a boss battle and a regular enemy is in your way. Thinking mostly about level 5 here.
Alright, I'll spruce it up and post another WIP later on and by the way stanski, check your PMs. Edit: Okay, here's the new WIP. It's quite a few seconds faster which is, well, good. Thanks stanski for the time saver that will continue to save time as the run goes on. This game is pretty Hex-editable unless there's some manipulation involved. Shouldn't take too long for another WIP to come out. I'll probably release one more after that and then finish the run before you see anything more.

Seems that no one is actively working on this game so I'll be doing the "Whip Guy" run. I've got a WIP already done, of the first level which is a little more than 2 seconds faster than Truncated's (quite possibly 3 seconds). Let me know what you think, if there are improvements that I did not see or something.

Everything syncs up in 1.51, for this game anyway. It also has better sound and supposed more precise timing to a real SNES but other than that I can't see what else 1.51 offers that 1.43 doesn't already. I think 1.51 only syncs movies if there aren't desync issues pertaining to the game (pretty much anything by Sculptered Software. Others as well). This game doesn't have them so why the hell not use 1.51, it'll please those who care about sound and junk. Also, if you choose 1.51, make sure Volume Envelope Height Reading is off as it causes too much randomness. But if you playback your movie with it on after you have recorded with it off, it should sync up, strangely enough. Back on topic: I haven't checked your work as I'm more interested in the finished run but do know, I'm another person who's interested.

Outstanding! Came out really well done. Albeit, I did fast-forward through talking, walking, and somewhat boring parts but I did watch the boss fights and points of interest. I know this game well enough to understand what's going on (through my brother, whom I've watched play it) so I hope that rectifies my fast-forwarding through it. Great job samurai goroh, it was very enjoyable to watch this game get TASed. Yes vote.

Hey thanks for the feedback everyone, I'm really surprised at how good it mostly was. I guess I'm a little critical on my work (always thinking that it may not appear good enough) but I'm glad it's just me, for the most part.

I understand and agree that a TAS of MK2 should contain entertainment/speed tradeoffs and that the movie should not aim for the absolute shortest completion time. Still, I feel that the extra 2-player fights were completely unnecessary and slow the movie down way too much. They cut the flow of the movie in a very nasty way and IMO don't contribute that much.
You're right about the excessiveness but since the game is very fast paced as it is, I didn't feel that 2 more fights would harm it too badly. It also gave me a chance to show off some more things like the Fatality+Babality, some crazy combos that, most likely, could only be done in 2-player mode, and a double Babality (which I regret doing, to be quite honest). In the end, it's your opinion which is absolutely valid.
Kyrsimys wrote:
Another thing I don't like (much for the same reasons as above) are the long parts where you play around without doing any damage to achieve a slightly glitched-out fatality. I can understand going slightly out of your way to achieve something cool, but what I don't understand is making the glitched fatalities the sole goal of the movie. They aren't even that glitched out, it's just some messed up graphics at messed up places (I did like the Jax fight though, that was cool).
Funny thing is, I actually was way more focused on the fighting this time around than the glitched fatalities. Sure, I wrote down what I was going to use but that was that. In regards to not doing damage while playing around, you'd see a hell of a lot of fighting with Johnny Cage alone if things were to be reversed (which makes your case about the run being about glitched fatalities mostly more valid :\ ).
Kyrsimys wrote:
My favorite parts were the Jade, Kintaro and Shao-Khan fights where you absolutely own the computer with smooth and connected moves and without any unnecessary bouncing around. Those moments really made the movie worth watching. Still, I vote no for publishing and this obsoleting the shorter movie.
Heh, I thought that maybe Smoke's fight would be on there, what with all the perfected (ego) combos while the Jade fight had too many problems which resulted in, in my opinion, less significant fighting. It's comments like yours that make me want to strive for more [I won't be redoing the run unless it gets rejected or if it gets accepted and SNES9X (or if another emulator comes out), one day, can run games with good sound and no desyncs.] so thanks for that everyone.
