Great video, Frenom. Very well done--actually, considering the material you worked with and the way you handled things, it looked like a well-choreographed music video. In case you haven't had enough nostalgia, here's a review of the actual movie.

First off, I have to say that it was a good attempt--both of you managed to work together to reach the top. However, I have a few complaints; 1. The both of you, either independently or together, moved far too slowly at times. It actually seemed like you were hesitating a lot over what to do; there were a few points in the video where I thought it had gone out of sync, because there was so much inaction. Loosen up and try going faster--though on the flip side, I really liked how you worked together to get all the Pibbleys in the bonus stage. 2. The teamwork I saw was...less than perfect. If you want to show a 2-player game where it's not just a copy of Player 1's movements, the proper thing to do is at least make sure Player 2 keeps up; I could see the moments where you or him were like, "Anschlag hier! HIER! Jetzt Wartezeit... drei, zwei, eins... jetzt! SPRUNG JETZT!" It didn't look so smooth, I'm afraid. Anyway, I applaud the effort, no matter what.

Ah...I'm surprised at how quickly that was answered. Thank you.

When watching some of these movies, I've noticed that at times when the playing character can't move onward for whatever reason (moving platform, automatic sequence), the player does this trick where the character moves from left-to-right in place really fast, a move which I've dubbed the "wobble". So, the obvious question is, how are you guys able to do that?

I can see your point on the authenticity issue, if you're referring to the conquering of a game which many people have struggled over, and by not "feeling as right" you mean the hack which relatively few people have even seen or heard of. However, the main reason why these games are hacked, at least in my opinion, is because the original games have, through repeated playing, lost a bit of their lustre. That's not saying that they're any less fun, merely...repetitive. You come to know, generally, how the given world you're in works, and you know how to work it. A hacked game tends to...change things. You have the world that you know, at least in a broad sense, but, depending on the hack in question, everything else might be different. For example, in Blob Bros. (I know I'm being repetitive; it's a good example), the author of the game has edited everything; the characters, the levels, the general feel of the game. It feels like a completely new game, despite the same music, and the same physics. I was surprised to find how long the first level was, for instance. In my opinion, at least, if you do choose to include movies from hacked ROM's, then you should only consider the hacks that change the game enough that it can stand on it's own; new strategies, new formulas.

How curious...why is that? I would think that playing a competently hacked version of a game which requires different skills and techniques would be fun, because you can compare the strategies of the two. For example, genestio's SMB2 tool-assisted speedrun was very impressive, but he would have to learn new strategies for a tool-assisted speedrun of Blob Bros., because the levels are completely different. (I just chose that name because of his video. It could be anyone.)

I'm not sure, but the location of the keypad (by the Steel Security Door) reminds me of the copy-protection trick for the PC Maniac Mansion--to get by the door, you had to enter a combination which was found in the manual--mess up enough times, and the house goes ker-boom. Do you think this was a bit of nostalgia, since they couldn't include it here?

Hello, I have been looking at some of the videos on this site, and they are all very impressive and indicative of a lot of effort. I have a question, though; as you may know, some people have taken it upon themselves to edit certain ROM's--some with minor changes, some drastically--and in some cases, if skilled enough, to create entirely new games. Has the thought occured to allow timeattacks of these hacked games to be posted? I, for one, would like to see a video made for Legend of the Blob Bros. 2, a majorly transformed version of Super Mario Bros. 2., or Zelda Challenge: Outlands. These games, I think, would be a very good watch indeed. In any case, I leave this to your deliberation. But, it would be very impressive to see.[/url]
