So, here it is--TASVideos' second TAS of a PC game! ...or not, seeing as it would be a TAS of a port of a PC game. Anyway, I'm sure many of you are familiar with this game (or The Secret Missions, another port), and have fond memories of it, such as trying to get a clear shot at your enemy as your shields are down and the panic music is playing, gritting your teeth as you weave your way through an asteroid/mine field, or shooting down Maniac after he refuses to obey your commands again. So, here's the thing--there are three ways a run on this could be made: the "fast as possible" method, which involves ejecting one's way to victory; out of 18 possible missions, only four need to be played, and once on the Venice, it's impossible to fail (unless you die, which wouldn't make the run any faster). There's also the standard path, which involves completing enough missions successfully (possibly ejecting, if desired) to move along the chain to Venice, the final route (which can be played normally or ejected through, as already mentioned). Finally, there's the longest path, which involves failing a couple of mission sets in order to play through six more missions (and get more kills). In any case, a FAQ with the details can be found here. One more thing: Wing Commander has a fair amount of dialog detailing the story (Briefing, Debriefing, and Ceremony--Bar Chat is useless), so considering the row going on over Star Control 2, would those watching such a run prefer the dialog to be skimmed through fairly quickly (say, 3 seconds per chunk of text), or skipped entirely (leaving more time for space combat)?

Well, the video looked pretty good from what I saw--I also would have liked to see more of the game and its text, but timely pausing and skipping over the boring hyperspace parts worked well enough for me. My name is Viewer, and I vote "Yes" on Initiative 1493.

Goodness, is there finally interest after all this time? I'm surprised.

The name of this torrent should probably be changed - right now it says "paperboy-playaround-paperboy", it should be "paperboy-playaround-randil" or somthing like that. Just a detail.
I'm not sure if this is related, but the .torrent shows up as eternally "Queued" instead of downloading, with Azureus.

If you really can't find the ROM with no into, go download the tool to remove the scene's intros and it will play fine... This one of those games where the main character actually swims faster then he runs!
EDIT: Dur. I are not observant. You thank, BoltR.

lol guess I know your opinion of it
It seems I was misunderstood. I didn't mean to imply the movie was bad (in fact, I've been trying to see it myself but the only (U) ROM I found had a preloader to it, rendering the movie unwatchable), merely that we should not talk about getting the ROM until there is no other possible way to watch the movie (i.e., it is rejected). I meant no offense.

Wait until the movie is rejected.

To the dedicated shipper, that's no problem at all! Simply have WifeXQ reveal she is an alien, or a defector from the government who created a new identity, or...I don't know, have her fall into a bottomless pit or something. Then after she returns to her home planet/gets shot by the agents who were tailing her throughout/fades from sight, bring in the new love interest, who despite just having his heart torn out, JXQ will immediately take a fancy to. Then slap it on Fanfiction.net.

What really gets to me is when people say these videos take no skill to make. It's as if they think it's as simple as turning on frame-advance and telling the emulator "Ok, I'm going to sit and watch tv--you call me when you're done".

The dive for the 120th star was very dramatic. In the back of my mind, I registered that you were only a little ways off from diving in to oblivion. Nice.
So...did Dragorn get that from you, or you from him?

I'd like to see a Magical Doropi run, especially considering its virtually plotless English version has already been done.

It's...really boring, to be honest. There's no action to speak of; all we're doing is watching the arrows scroll up the screen and the combo counter increase. I'm sorry, but I can't see any way for this to be accepted. Maybe if we saw your feet...

...And that was "Yoshimi battles the Rock'em Sock'em Robots". We'll be right back after this commercial break.

Er...what were you trying to do, Dromiceius? At first I thought you were trying to shoot in time with the music, or manipulate the statistic numbers to something amusing, but I'm not certain.

When I tried clicking on the first link, it took me to a page that said "Missing File". Talk about fast service! Thank you very much, nitsuja.

If anyone has it, could they post that "Glitchy City Ransom" movie nitsuja posted awhile back? It seems to have fallen off the edge of the server.

I think Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko would also make a good run. You may want to consider that, as well.

In case anyone's interested in backstory behind the fat Russian man who can spit fire and turn into lightning, here you go. In other words, you can get a translated version here

Heh... "Follows the movie's story"? Oh right, like the scene in the future where Marty has to defend himself from officers pulling out oversized revolvers (as large as their bodies) and giant kids tossing cans of soda. Or maybe the scene where, after learning from the "Biff Tunns" museum how Biff made his fortune, Marty hurtles through the insanely proportioned hallways of the hotel, fighting off security guards and dodging floating black balls. Or where he had to get past the insane saxophonist before meeting his mother. Or the scene where he frantically makes his way through Oak Park Cemetary searching for his father's grave, whilst fighting past machinegun wielding terrorists and molotov cocktail wielding Britishers with their heads on fire. Seriously though, I mean no offense; I was working on a TAS of this game at one point and it just blew me away how many "creative liberties" one had to take to make a game like this work. It's a great game, though one very, very frustrating point for me was the second Griff boss battle--the game would desync, over and over as the fight started. So, in conclusion, I would also like to see a TAS made of this game. I'm not going back to it for personal reasons, so please don't ask.

I know that Metroid Legacy's already being mulled over, but apparently there's another hack that's just been released, and it's supposed to be large and even more in-depth, and so forth. Just giving any interested parties a heads-up, even if to only attract attention.

Well...I'm sure a lot of you are aware of this by now, but the first chapter of the translation is complete; it's pretty good, actually, so give it a look-see, especially if you've played "Phoenix Wright" for the DS.
