In case someone needs the official artwork of this run (high quality + full size + alpha channel), here it is: The author is SiD, she is one of the two artists who make artworks for TAS projects where I participate. I think it’s a nice idea to add some kind of illustration to the submission :)

I didn’t mean to blame, I apologize if it looked so — actually I wanted to point out to that run, because it’s a significant and important attempt at doing a Knuckles any% TAS of S3K, and of course I had to mention the reasons behind that run’s failure. By the way, it’s funny how in the MGZ Eggman quickly turns into egg robot in the very beginning of the boss battle ^^ Unkillable Tails and Knuckles’ reaction at it (like “what the…”) is also nice :)

These days I’m kind of outside TAS scene, my new job is extremely busy, way greater than I even expected. Also, the desync issue isn’t actually the most disturbing one. It usually doesn’t happen to Sonic games (well… usually). A more annoying problem is that new wine causes frequent Gens crashes. I recorded a short gmv for Evil_3D some days ago, and it was deadly hard because of those crashes. I think I need some rest from TAS, given all those problems and my busy life :) sorry guys. In fact, such shit once happened to me once when doing a short TAS for a TASvideos submission. This one. I just recorded a short TAS and when I tried to replay it, the boss fight was messed up. Well, that was a joke submission anyway. So, when you work on your TASes, keep in mind that you have to replay it over and over again, to see if the things go fine. Sadly, some TASes can desync from the first attempt, but then play well from the second attempt and so on. Especially that Mario 3 thing… Totally crap, have no idea how to TAS it.

I can confirm that Gens can have random desync issue; it’s especially bad with a pirate game Mario 3, which I wanted to TAS, but had to abandon the project because the game is nearly inTASable because of the desync issues.

People tend to appreciate the efforts of TASers less and less despite the movies becoming technically better and better. After seeing some crazy ACE runs they want every single TAS to colour a dinosaur do something similar. Try to accept it as is — today it is nearly impossible to impress viewers by a good Sonic TAS like back in 2006.

Obviously I’m giving it a strong Yes vote, I have been following this project for a while and I’m glad that it’s now finished. Really sorry for being so inactive recently, but the sad fact is: I am still way too busy with my new job, and cannot promise any activity any soon.

Is taking the big ring in FBZ1 actually slower than ignoring it? Hyper Knuckles has significally greater spindash speed, it may result in a faster time after wasting a few moments to collect that big ring. I mean, did you check the exact difference?

The answer is: the path switcher should be left in proper state. The “proper” one is when the left side of the loops is solid and the right one is not. See my Amy@S3K published TAS for an example of how to do it. Depending on your route, you may not need any manipulations at all.

Out of curiousity, could the official encode include the artwork from the description, which was done exclusively for this project? I suggest using it in the splash somehow, unless it’s too hard or not allowed.

Great, it will be useful for a new S+T any% TAS, but I highly doubt that I can use it for Amy — first, she cannot spindash on such a high slope angle, seconds, it needs 2P…
