Even the glitched runs usually ban at least one glitch: if you touch a checkpoint at n seconds and ~59 in-game frames, you’ll be respawned at it with n:00 time, which often results in a faster in-game time.

FAST HAS HELL Also, adds some “loses the game to save time” to the more-familiar “takes damage to save time” and “uses death to save time” In the final boss battle, try to glitch through the Eggman’s pistons and climb onto the wall inside. I was able to do it when me&marzojr were making the currently published run , but we didn’t get anything useful from it. Who knows, maybe you will do. :)

I wasn’t able to pass through that place fast enough without taking damage at all, and taking damage was faster than jumping over that flying thing and charging a new spindash.

Here it is. Most stages are improved by at least 1 in-game second, except the SLZ, which I just copy-pasted from BahnDaten. I can’t really explain why I was lazy to TAS this particular zone and not any others. Link to video Update: somehow I missed that it's possible to skip the score counts :( I'll probably fix it sometime later, my apologies for that :(

Meanwhile, I’ve done a new attempt at TASing GHZ1 in that crazy-fast Sonic Genesis, and got 0:10.14. Who knows, probably 0:09 is also possible. Anyway, it’s just too short to show, so, I’ll probably share it if I do some more acts/stages.

Actually, it’s not hard to imagine for any Sonic TASer. This game proved it’s complexity many times, and there are really tens of examples when a “good” run got updated by many seconds, or even minutes. This game is full of inobvious strategies and things like «going slower to go faster», a good example is MGZ2 boss, where delaying the last hit by a few frames makes the whole boss battle many seconds faster. For years this was not known because every TASer just tried to beat that boss in a frame-perfect way.

I think you can make your own TASvideos community (where TAS means tool-assisted slowrun) and start doing your best at beating games as slow as possible, using TAS tools to make it even slower than any alive human could ever do =D

Wait, you say there is a path swapper? In my Amy@S3K TAS, I go there just because it’s faster than dropping down one more level inside the wall. I trigger the path swapper earlier, in the loop before the MHZ1 boss fight. This probably means that my MHZ1 can be improved by not triggering that path swapper in the loop and instead using the one later. How do you think?

Speaking of Amy, that's an old run. The most up-to-date version is always in my Github, though it still needs at least MGZ boss rework. https://github.com/WST/tas/raw/master/serious/sonic-3-and-amy/anypercent-speedrun.gmv (but there is no significant change in LBZ2 strategy, only some better optimization).

Of course, you can cancel your submission, edit the run and submit the new one. Runs that are worse than existing ones are always rejected.

It’s a nice idea. I recall at least one brilliant run made this way. It really breaks the submission rules, but, at the same time, it’s clearly a tool-assisted speedrun (and a good one).

In all honesty, it’s the most crazy-looking fight against the final bosses of this game I’ve ever seen. It’s a pity that you couldn’t skip the engine room though. I did it once in one of my old Amy@S3K WIPs, the idea is to go offscreen far enough to fly through that room at a very high speed.

Anyway, I love how Knuckles instantly self-accelerates at frame 1361 and turns back instantly at frame 1403, then stops at frame 1443 (and then laughs!). Also, I love how you enter the gate from ICZ to LBZ from the Launch Base zone side. =D I think you should really kindly ask Aglar to try his hand on SPZ2 level-wrap that you tried to set up…
