Yep, I didn’t know about this particular one, but I already know very well that the weakness of my last TAS is not using glide-through trick where it’s possible. I started run of S3&K with Qwerty, however, it seems to take him really a long time to do Angel Island 2, which needs some quite hard maneurs to be done in the tube.

Well, this post is not actually coding-related (I think), but I’m posting it here, because I think it may be interesting to someone. A few days ago students of a major Russian university saw this announcement: It is well known that job invitations from IT companies often present some challenges to solve, but at this time noone could find any solution. The announcement seems to be written in some kind of artifical language. Tens of people are already trying to solve the quest here and they suggest some ideas. For example, some of them beleive 1920–1978 may mean 1902–1987. Anyway, hopefully this interests someone. Of course, it can be simply an April’s Fool Day joke, but… Who knows?

I don't recall saying that; which screw you are talking about?
At least a year ago, I was asking you how to perform the trick which happens in Aglar’s Sonic 2 TAS at frame ~3590. I was trying to do that with Amy (which, I beleive now, is actually useless for her). Anyway, I just posted my observation about that trick. If you want, I can provide 2 gmvs explaining my words, but I doubt it’s any kind of useful.

The Aglar’s “fall of a screw” glitch is really weird. According to marzojr, the big screw consists of 2 small ones, and I was expecting that falling happens exactly between them. However, as I can see from a few Tails runs, it can happen in different places…

Here is a great improvement of mine and feeuzz’s well-known run of Sonic the Hedgehog Tribute. Link to video We still have some ideas on possible improvements, especially in SPZ1 and URZ1, which worth some testing. In theory they could make the results even better.

Why not to make a completely new user experience, using a popular CSS framework, for example, Twitter Bootstrap? Look at this website, or this one (there are tons of examples). They are quite simple, but they do not look like they came from the dial-up epoch, like TASvideos :) Also, big CSS files should not be that much of a problem, with proper HTTP header configuration they affect only the first load. After that, they are cached and always accessed from the browser’s cache. However, I agree that garbage CSS instructions are not good. Personally if I had to reimplement the whole TASvideos website from scratch on my own, I’d use some MVC-based web framework, allowing to use ORM to manage the data, template engine to ease the construction of the output pages; and Twitter Bootstrap as the front-end. However, as I’m not good at frontent design and development, I’d prefer to take someone’s else templates.

Why the hell the rerecord cound is encoded as a little endian, while the flags are big endian? Does it really make any sense other than annoying the programmer? Was it really made with trolling in mind?

Are you kidding? Have you ever heard of Qt? It’s considered one of the most developed cross-platform GUI frameworks today. It can also be used from Python (PyQt), as Derakon mentioned. If you guys speak of C#, how about Vala then? Is it good for a beginner?

I found numerous improvements for the currently published Sonic and Knuckles TAS, from the very beginning. This is one of them. I am not going to redo the run, since Qwerty is working on a much better full run of Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and I’m helping him, but I’m posting this image just to show what I mean.

Limiting the max virtual size of the process would be a good solution. Limiting the resident size would be even better, but, as far as I know, it’s impossible, since ulimit -m has no effect on recent Linux kernels. Having htop always running on one of your consoles is also a good idea.

I hate my hometown. Everyday electricity outages with almost no exceptions. After the freezing rain in January, my ADSL cable is damaged, and the ISP is ignoring my reports. In fact, they even don't know how I am connected -- I have two lines from them, one for the telephone and the other one for network. They disagree, they say such a configuration would cost incredibly much and they never use separate ADSL line. I am wondering how the hell they work if they can't even remember the way they connected me after my claims about unstable link. By the way, the second line (telephone) is completely broken. I wish I could live in a city, but disability of my mom and her total disagreement to move to a city makes it impossible...

marzojr found a bit disappointing shortcut in my Sonic 3 and Amy TAS; it’s disappointing because if I add his trick, another very entertaining trick has to be avoided. But I’m still glad he found an improvement. So, new preview is to come soon (I hope).

The feeling when you succeed to manage your X subpixels to get horizontal underflow with the speed about 4200 and then a death ruins all your efforts… http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1937606054/STHOSP%20-%201.gmv * kidding, I always test possibility to underflow the level by forcing a great X speed from a Lua script before actual TASing the level. So I actually knew before that I was going to die, I just wanted to have some exercise in alignment. So, enjoy another useless level-wrap… :)

Relax :) I do not care, I’m just trying to show KPM that it can be done better :) Enjoy: Link to video Apologies about the boring sonic boom sound. By the way, this game is really glitchy, there is some weird camera glitch similar to the one in Vector in Sonic 1, but not the same. I have absolutely no experience with this hack and so I TASed it just for fun, striving to make it well, but still not sure what other glitches/tricks are possible. The game is really speedy and if you like speed, you’ll enjoy the run anyways.

Tiny? In act 2? Are you kidding? Link to video You don’t even need to underflow act 2 — you can easilly go as fast as the camera during the whole act. My GHZ1 is also improveable though, I will improve it if I decide to do a longer TAS of this game.

This game also needs a glitchless TAS, the run of CNZ2 was probably my favorite within this TAS. As many people say, Sonic TASes become boringly short.
