I have to remake some parts of my Amy@S3K run again. Found a zip in HCZ1 which is too significant to miss it. I am now discussing this trick with marzojr, maybe he knows how to take even more advantage from it (it’s possible to cause horizontal underflow, but seems to be hard or even impossible to take a suitable Y position after that).

The game is FULL of places where the spikes do not hurt you at all. But these ones probably should… (upd) those spikes are actually very strange. It’s not possible to pass through them by bringing them off screen. Another weirdness is with making a spin dash on the top of those spikes after getting damage: there is high possibility that you will not move after making spin dash. Maybe marzojr may describe their weird behavior.

I am still working on improving it. I am so close to 0:15, that I do not beleive that I cannot beat it. It’s already the hardest run I ever worked on.

Great, man! This reminds me of Qwerty’s old 100 ring collection TAS, but this is way cooler! As a Sonic TASer too, I realize how hard is to make such runs, but anyway I am waiting for updates from this project :) Downloaded the video, btw, nice that you began making HDs.

Everytime I see this game and hear it’s sounds, I wonder why it’s called „Super Mario” and not „Escape from nuthouse”. But I vote „yes”, since the number of rerecords is even crazier than those sounds.

Кстати, о стикерах, какое-то время я даже ученическую тетрадь использовал, как в школах. Там ещё стандартная шапка, начинающаяся на «для …», я дописал: «тасинга, блеять»

I placed DMTM’s name in the title of my and Qwerty/NaturelLorenzo’s TAS, despite absense of his real input (in the past versions there was some input by him, but then I improved that level). I hope it’s enough. (upd) new video from DMTM, by the way. Link to video

Thanks, that’s how I use gens. I am not very much interested about NES tasing, but if there was a way to run an emulator natively on Linux/BSD, I would try it. Only because of this tool (TAS editor), to see it in action. Why didn’t you use GTK to make TAS editor? Out of curiousity.

Let me guess. This? Also when I TASed that level, once I’d succeeded to make horizontal underflow at lower Y position, so I appeared in that boss room without having to break the switch. It’s also possible to escape from terrain after the horizontal underflow and maybe possible to get your Y position high enough to get into the Sonic’s boss area. Btw, I also found that MHZ1 zip can be entered as shown in this video (Amy-only trick too). It may be useful if you start the level from Knuckles area (unless there are faster zips) (upd) suddenly noticed that LBZ1 layout shown in DMTM’s video differs from what I see in my gens o_O wtf? Is it a difference between S3 and S3K? (upd 2) possibility to abuse corner glitch in the very beginning of LBZ1 using Amy confirmed. However, I fail to make horizontal underflow for some reason — the left boundary is too far…

I think I discovered only one trick myself, and it’s Amy-specific. I called it spike diving, and here is a simple demonstration of how and where it can be abused (by NaturelLorenzo). Note that it may be possible to abuse corner glitch to beat this level even faster. I didn’t try it enough with Amy, tried only with Hyper Amy, and managed to enter the wall, but failed to reach the point of horizontal underflow Link to video But I do not ask anyone for crediting me if he uses it, at least because this trick is based on common knowledge that spikes do not work off screen. Sonic can make it with Tails, for example. Sorry for the Amy video in S3K thread, but I hope it’s ok, since it’s a hack of S3K and we were discussing trick authorship.

It’s not a good motivation, because if such a run gets accepted, any TASer (me for example :-p) will be able to simply take your run, shave off a couple frames from every single level and submit an «improvement» without any efforts. Also there is a rule that your movie will not be accepted if there are known better movies (not only within this website — on youtube, for example. Do you know that some TASers are even not registered here and so do not post any submissions, but their movies on youtube are quite well known)?

Who was the first to discover horizontal underflow? Was it discovered during real-time gameplay, or maybe while tasing, or maybe it was predicted after analysing the game's code and then actually performed? Really curious about the history of such a useful trick.

No, since I want to make EH1 in 0:15 and EH2 in 0:33. My last result in EHZ1 is dangerously close to 0:15. I need to make 0:15, because I need to be sure that you'll not feel easy to improve me when you start a serious project :). So, please, try it all yourself, I promise to give you tips. By the way, did my screencast help you? I also have a feeling that each time from the current published Sonic 2 run is (in theory) (beatable|reachable) with Amy, despite her inability to get so much slope acceleration as Sonic. I am simply bad at deep optimization and do not have enough spare time to brute-force things, but I already managed to prove me right in CPZ1, which I actually beat faster than Sonic. It's not Amy@S3K, where it's way easier to beat Sonic's times. In Amy@S3K Amy is pure speed, and her abilities to spin dash through inspindashable things and abuse corner glitch make her extremely good for speedrunning that game. Just for your interest: most of my runs, including this one, actually have a lot more rerecords than it’s shown in the movie, because I often cancel failed attempts by reverting the input file to a previous state (I use Subversion) and often merge separate input files. (upd) over 9000 rerecords to make one single level… I hope you’ll enjoy improving me, zwataketa, like I enjoyed improving Crramalama in GHZ1 and marzojr in GHZ2 of Amy@S1 * :-p Link to video Only one little trick remains to finally get under 0:16, but that trick is painfully hard to pull off. I think if someday I make it, the number of rerecords will exceed at least 20000 to that day… * both with no success, but thousands consumed rerecords, right ;)

It should be still improveable. Tails beats that level in 0:41.xx, Amy in 0:40.15. Hard to beleive that Sonic looses them both so much time. Sorry, I can’t help much unless you play as Amy. :)
