Wow, that is fast, I always knew you can find something what I overlooked :) (upd) nicely done! I tried those stair clips in many places, but for some reason I didn’t have much success with them. Your route is very good, and also I love how the Sonic is drowning in the end. (upd2) I’ve just found a strange way to enter the terrain in the next act, but I didn’t quite figure out how did I trigger it — I was playing in real time and it happened fast as hell. I’ve made a savestate though. I will try to reproduce it while recording tomorrow.

I have a minor issue when running Gens using wine in Linux. When I install some custom Windows UI theme (Zune for example), the RAM watch looks like this: Looks like the text is present, but for some reason it is white.

Yeah, I use RAM watch with this hack. Btw, this hack has some funny bugs, for example, early spindash in the very beginning of MMZ3 starts boss music, but instead of bringing you to the boss fight, the game just crashes. Another way to crash the game is spindash through an object.

Thank you. This project was started by nitsuja back in 2008, but the quality of his input is still excellent even for today’s standards. A few years ago feeuzz was going to finish nitsuja’s project, he had a WIP, but than he lost it. So I have no idea if I am faster or slower than feeuzz in my testrun. And yeah, I could probably turn it into a finished run or even into a TASvideos submission, we’ll see :) I think I will have to redo MMZ2 anyway, it’s a pretty boring stage to TAS, as I don’t know any shortcuts for it. Maybe you could try your hand on lurking it? You and kaan55 are really good at discovering time savers.

Who knows, maybe PLAYERONE simply didn’t know of better runs and couldn’t realize how good or bad his run actually was. My recommendations for him/her are: 1. Stop using Bizhawk. Just stop, it is pointless and useless for Sonic TAS. :) 2. Install Sonic TAS tools and Gens hacks designed specially for Sonic games, they provide a lot more information about your speed, position and so on… 3. Start using frame advance (usually «\» button, can be configured in emulator settings) instead of slow mode. 4. Learn the basic physics of the game: spin dash, braking technics (at least the basic ones), ways to stop faster (hit terrain or object, abuse terrain ejection, use speed caps). The physics are common for all the games and hacks, the differences are usually very slight. 5. Learn the ways to boost speed, a lot of methods involve jumps and loops, there are some “common” loop jumps, they are: up-loop jump, down-loop jump and out-loop jumps. In your run, you simply run through every single loop, missing a lot of places where you could take HUGE boosts. 6. Learn about the glitches. As any other complex computer program, Sonic is full of bugs, many of which are very well known and the ways to set them up are documented. A lot of bugs lead to huge time-savers. 7. Man, don’t hurry to make submissions, this game is not easy to TAS, and you are even slower than realtime speedrunners. Look at the website’s slogan, it says “when human skills are just not enough”, it means that we create runs, which look in such a way like they are done by something not of this world. The viewer who watches your run should think “I have no idea what kind of THING played it, but it cannot be an alive human”, that’s our goal :) (upd) I only want too add: we welcome you in our community. We are not as unfriendly as we may look. We simply don’t enjoy putting such a little efforts into your work, because for us it’s kind of art. I’ve found a strange way to stuck in FBZ2 boss (Amy@S3K). «Uses death to save time» sounds more impressive and kind of shows TAS nature: even your life means less than a few saved frames (or a few extra rings in our case) =D

I wonder if this run is going to get “uses death to save time” (as there is no “kills Tails to get rings”) tag, which you normally don’t even expect from a ring attack :)

It’s not much of a problem. In fact, some Sonic TASers even sometimes use dummy input (for example, X/Y/Z buttons) as labels for future editing in an input editor. Also, I can easilly remove those dummy inputs later, so, it doesn’t matter at all. The first published run has some similar input left from Aglar in AIZ1, this one also does, but I re-recorded his input a little earlier as I found some improvements in that part. kaan55, actually, I am 100% satisfied with your result, I only want to redo the ending to make it look less boring, so, I think now I only need to figure out where I could lose that 1 frame. I’m not in hurry, so, it may take some time.

As far as I know (from TASing experience, not from the engine), it happens when there is an object below Tails, no matter how far below. I also think there was a detailed explaination of this on the forum; but it will be hard to find, because it was posted many years ago.

Evil_3D I need some help. I am working on FBZ2 and trying to reproduce your trick. That’s the truth about this game: everytime you TAS it, you find some HUGE improvements. It is ridiculously crazy. Compared with many other games, this one looks complex almost like real world.

To be honest, I’d prefer if you guys collected those rings, just because it’s proven to be possible and the goal of the TAS is collecting everything collectable. On the one hand — yes, it will certainly make the run more boring and you’ll have to pass through the resync process once again. On the other — you won’t have exceptions from your rules. Just like in the previous ring attack, some places can be time-consuming and annoying (like MCZ2 there), but as you see, people easilly accepted it at that time, I don’t think this time will be different. But that’s only my personal opinion. I am not trolling anyone and if you don’t want to do tons of those routine works, it’s fine.
