Kids' cartoon characters... they are all the same, aren't they? And it's not like kids would notice. And even if they do, who cares?-)
Reminds me of when I was once at a restaurant and everybody else in the group ordered beers to drink and I ordered a Pepsi Max (Diet Pepsi for you Americans). In the receipt said beverage was listed as "water".
Haha, very funny.
I think it goes without saying that Dash will continue living in Ponyville and participate in adventures with the rest of the gang as always (would be way too much of a change if she didn't.) I was simply wondering how many, if any, references to the wonderbolts will we see in future episodes, or will the status quo reset be so drastic that it will be as if had never happened at all...
In theory this should be a rather big and significant change, but in practice it probably won't be.
When one buys a video game, do they not purchase the images played for their own use?
Not really. Pretty much nobody knows this, as nobody actually reads EULAs, but rarely do you ever actually "buy" a game. Usually, the EULA specifies that any and all content remains property of whoever made it and you have merely bought the right to actually access said content.
EULAs have nothing to do with this, though. Even without any kind of EULA or anything, copyright is most certainly not transferred simply because you bought a copy of the artwork. And since you don't own the copyright, you don't have any right to distribute or make derivative works from the original without the copyright holder's permission.
Btw, interesting to see if references about Dash being a member of the wonderbolt academy will be dropped in future episodes, of whether everything will be just reset and not mentioned ever again.
A bit off topic, but is one actually taking money away from the video game companies that produced the games? If anything, I would call it promotion and possible advertisement for the company.
Copyright law isn't concerned nor cares about that. Copyright infringement isn't about whether someone makes (or doesn't make) money, or how much.
My concern is, however, that the copyright holders tend to be lenient on game videos (even though they most probably would have the right to shut them down if they so wished), but they might change their minds if people are making money out of them.
Emulation has more copyright violation than the videos themselves though.
Ponyville is a village in the kingdom of Equestria. But is there any official stance of what else is in this fictional world outside of Equestria? In fact, does the world itself have a name? How large is it?
There is nothing illegal here as these are games he legally owns.
It's not a question of legality. I'm just uneasy with the idea that this forum is used for personal advertisements and selling stuff.
Assume that I owned, let's say, an online store where you can buy products, and I would start advertising it here. Maybe it's just me, but I would feel it inappropriate for this website.
Could someone encode this, please? Thanks in advance!
I don't think making such a request is necessary at all. When was the last time that someone did not make an encode for a submission before it was accepted or rejected?
I'm glad to hear that.
I'm also saddened by the fact that there are so many people in your same situation who refuse to accept any conventional medical treatment because they have this conspiracy theory that conventional treatment is "poison" and they are only using people as lab rats for their horrible experiments. Ironically, these people will suffer and die for nothing.
(That's not to say that cancer can always be cured. However, the prognosis is quite good, especially for some types of cancer, and refusing treatment is just madness.)
By the way, I wonder if religions qualify as conspiracy theories?
Religions are belief systems, not conspiracy theories. However, many religious people believe in conspiracy theories about science and the scientific community. (For example, it's very typical for young earth creationists to believe that the entire scientific community is in a conspiracy to brainwash people into believing that the universe is billions of years old and that all living beings have evolved from ancestral species, and that the scientific community is hiding and destroying evidence of the contrary. These conspiracy theories can get pretty wild at times.)
I will never understand why people regard "making cash off TASing" as an almost insane and totally absurd idea.
I will never understand why so many people don't have any concern about attracting the attention of the copyright holders of the games.
The copyright holders might, might, let the copyright infringement pass if you don't make money out of it. They may change their minds if you start earning with their property.
(And yes, it is copyright infringement. The video game music has copyright protection, and most probably the graphics too. Just because the owners don't do anything about it doesn't mean it's not infringement. And "fair use" does not cover putting entire songs and large amounts of graphics on youtube.)
Well, that's why its a challenge.
You have to a) complete as many games as possible with the same input, and b) make them all at least look like that are played somewhat optimally.
You didn't understand me. 2-game TASes. Not myriad-game TASes.
Speaking of which, why aren't people making any 2-game TASes anymore? IIRC, there has been exactly one such TAS during the entire history of the site, even though it's one of the most awesome forms of TASing.
I think that there should be an addition to the guidelines (or even the rules) that if there are more than x authors, they should agree on a shorter group name. (The actual authors can then be put in the movie description.)
I'm not sure it's all that clear-cut.
There are things that can be done only by using superhuman timing and accuracy (at least if you want to do every single time without a miss), but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a glitch. If you hit a bullseye dead-center 100 times with 100 shots, that requires superhuman accuracy, but it's not a glitch.
A glitch is a bug in the game. Some bugs can be triggered only via superhuman accuracy, but that doesn't mean everything that can be triggered only via superhuman accuracy is a glitch.
The line between what can be considered a true glitch and what not can be really blurry.
Also, from an entertainment point of view, is it really all that bad if a glitch that doesn't break the game or allow for any unintended shortcuts (but just allows the playable character to eg. run slightly faster) is used? Not using such a glitch is dubious from all possible points of view (entertainment, technical, and anything else.)
