I don't really know how much time I can save when I do a new run, I only know it's faster. This is a cinematic heavy videogame, and like 50% of the time, I can't even save time (in the overworld). Also, I wanted to present for this site a better TAS, after the critics I got about the movement per example. The goal was more to make a better TAS than a faster one :)

I would like to suggest this screenshot. It demonstrates the arguably hardest trick in the whole game, and TAS only, when I need to precisely dodge monsters and casting spells to open this door :) VI: 108073 Input: 717849

Hello :D In follow up of my successful TAS that got under 2 hours, I'm still aware of the ways I can get it slightly better with, per example, using more than 8 directions (d-pad). I still need to learn this a bit, since for now I'm not good with it. I worked on a new route that should balance magic power and fast dungeons. I saw in my last run that I lost many time in bosses, sometimes more than 10 seconds by bosses, and I'm pretty confident I can save some seconds by simply doing some minor detours for better artefacts. Here's my route for now: Y1 15 River Belle Path(1) Kris+3(B+119) Fruit Water 18 Mushroom Forest(1) Silver Bracer,Mage Masher,Cat's Bell+1(C) Fruit+2 19 Cathuriges Mine(1) Moogle Pocket(B+116) Magic+1 Fruit Y2 19 The Goblin Wall(1) Wonder Wand+3(B+110) Magic+1 Fruit Fire Water 22 Moschet Manor(1) Red Slippers+3(B+84) Magic+3 Fruit 25 Tida(1) Dragon's Wisker+1(B+0) Y3 26 River Belle Path(2) Mage's Staff+5(B+119) Magic+3, Fruit+2 Fruit Wind 50$ 31 Daemon's Court(1) Winged Cap+1(B+0) Mythril,Fruit 32 Selepation Cave(1) Mage Masher,Cat's Bell+1(C) Fruit+2 Y4 Earth Water 500$ 33 Kilanda(1) Noah's Lute+5(M) Fruit+2 38 Conall Curach(1) Sage's Staff+3(B+0) Fruit+2 41 Rebena Te Ra(1) Rune Bell+3(C) Fruit+2 Y5 300$ 44 Lynari Desert(1) Book of Light+1(C) Holy 300$ 45 Veo Lu Sluice(1) Ring of Blizzard+1(B+0) 50$ 46 Mount Vellenge Magic+9+5+5+5 70 But guys, if I want to do the perfect run, I need your help. If you have any idea or techniques, tricks, criticises, question, anything, don't fear to ask :) We did a great job already, but I know we can push this game to its limits :) Thank you again for all the support :)

With great pleasure :) So to resume a bit the gameplay: each year means collecting 3 drops of myrrh, wich means beating 3 (active) dungeons. I need to get to fifth year to be able to access Lynari Desert (otherwise the boat doesn't go that far). So I need, globally, to beat 4x3 dungeons, so 12 dungeons. At the fifth year, we can't pass the river because it's dry. So I need (either I already beat it or not) to restore the life plants in Veo Lu Sluice. Since it's a pretty far dungeon, and since I need to go there anyway at 5th year, I find it faster to just do a cycle 2 dungeon to get my total of 12 dungeons. The fastest and easiest dungeons are River Belle Path and Mushroom Forest. I chose Mushroom Forest because I get a +3 magic from the chest, wich gives a significant edge for the boss. It was the most efficient way to get all the artifacts I wanted the fastest possible :) PS: Depending on the route, it could be faster to go to River Belle Path, like previous attempt. Basically, my route is based to do the dungeons as fast as possible, sacrificing some time on the bosses (because low magic power). We accomplish that by simply needing less bonus points, so less detours to do killing minsters and picking up drops. It also helps that mythril is found in Daemon's Court, because it sells high, and I need a lot of money for the boat (a grand total of 1200$, 2200$ if I count the cutscene skip in one of the events). My last attempt was trying to get as much magic power as possible, and my maybe future one will me focused on some some of arrangment between the 2 :)

I'll try. I don't intend to do another run until I get enough feedbacks :)

I want to have a chance to publish it because I think this game deserves some recognitition and visibility. Also, personnaly, I think the 8 directions does not affect that much the run. I hope if someone better wants to do it, it could see this publication. Furthermore, I'm very proud of it, and it beats the current any% glitched record, so it might be at least be vault, no? I'm still hoping for moon because I really like this game, but I'll let the people and the judges decide :) Every TAS on this site is a personnal project, I simply want to share it :)

I'm very very sorry for the inconvenience. The 8 directions is not a CC's fault, it's mine. I don't use most of TAS tools, I apologize. I still hope the current work will be entertaining regardless. Also, I'm working for an encode right now, but the problem is I don't have a good Internet connection, so no upload until at least next week. Deeply sorry.

I'm not used to how things work here, I'll let you be the judges of that :) I'm working a little fast (I've gained experience), maybe I'll be finished in January.

It may be a good idea yes. Receptions made me think and I've redone the entire route in hope it will be faster. So yeah, I'm not against cancelling it :) I'm really sorry if it disturbed you.

After thinking about it, I still want to get the sub 2 hours all dungeons. So I made an all new route, based on doing the dungeons faster, and the bosses slower. I hope I can shave off many minutes with that. I skimmed through the any% record and the person mentioned multiplayer mode making his route quicker somehow, whether this is something that relates for this all dungeons run I have no idea. But speaking from entertainment wise I would say making the NPC carry the pot for you freeing yourself up for more action is a worthwhile entertainment trade since it is far more enjoyable to watch the NPC try to catch up with you as you try to go off-screen rather than you lugging the pot around 24/7.
He may be talking about the IGG (Infinite Gil Glitch) which is used in the glitched categories. It's only possible in the japanese version, and with GBA. That's why it's not used. And that's why this run is glitchless.

My main criticism would be that I expect you don't need all of the drops you are picking up like money and the artifacts you end up not choosing to keep at the end of the levels. It seems like you need X amount of things to be able to keep the powerful artifacts but it does appear like you might be looting too much unless it is being manipulated to be worth looting all of it. Again I might simply be missing how the game works and it might not be an issue but I thought may as well mention it.
Let me explain this ^^ This game has a mechanic of bonus points in the end of each dungeons. There is many ways to fulfill the criterias, but in general, I can't simply abuse the best bonus points, because what I do is limited to 100 points, was it not doing anything not requested or doing the thing requested. On the other hand, killing an ennemy gives 1 point, and picking up an item/money gives you also 1 point. To get the artifacts I want, like in the Goblin Wall, I need 172 points. Wich means I need a supplementary of 72 points. I get those points by killing/picking up 72 times to get my magic +5 I want. ALSO, the reason my father is merchant is because all dungeons uses a lot of money (the boat). Items are sold, and money is used. Maybe not optimaly (like I said, I talked too much to my dad) but the bonus points are optimised my best, and that's why I do detours in dungeons killing and picking up things (took a long time routing those, I've redone the Goblin Wall entirely when I was off 1 point lol) EDIT: Here is the bonus points needed for all dungeons. When it says 0, it's because I don't need bonus points. So those dungeons are naturally the ones I have the less points possible to save frames: River Belle Path(1) Kris+3(B+119) Mushroom Forest(1) Sage's Staff+3(B+135) Cathuriges Mine(1) Moogle Pocket(B+116) The Goblin Wall(1) Dark Matter+5(B+172) Tida(1) Chocobo Pocket(B+0) Moschet Manor(1) Red Slippers+3(B+84) River Belle Path(2) Mage's Staff+5(B+119) Selepation Cave(1) Rune Bell+3(B+158) Daemon's Court(1) Wonder Wand+3(B+103) Kilanda(1) Noah's Lute+5(M) Conall Curach(1) Gold Hairpin+5(B+193) Rebena Te Ra(1) Goblin Pocket(C) Lynari Desert(1) Star Pendant(B+0) Veo Lu Sluice(1) Ring of Blizzard+1(B+0)

Hello guys, long time no see ^^ I restarted my run completely with a new route. Yes, sorry, I lost my motivations, but now I'm back. I didn't want to tell you I'm back before at least finishing 3 years (like precedent TAS) knowing I might create false hopes. But now, here it is, and I'm working right now at year 4 ;) Link to video Link to video Link to video It's 2 minutes longer than my past try, but it's way more optimised and will be worth for the endgame. Enjoy :)

I was talking purely theorically, not exactly on this run. I think this run is a monumental work too, don't create words I didn't say please.

If I understand well, then, if PURELY THEORICALLY I find someone's TAS and find a 1 frame improvement, this frame being a good frame save (when you talk about improvement in gameplay, let's assume this frame is an improvement), but everything else is the same... It's ok? Not that I want to do that or that I accuse any work here to be that. BTW voted yes. Impressive work here :)

Well, technically, most of the work on the improvement... Comes from the precedent authors, no? If I take someone's run, find a 3 frame improvement, place it, and submit, I'm doubting I can really take the credit for the run (again, talking in general, not for this run in particular, I know (and see) the work done on this run) Anyway, thanks for the info :)

I have a (maybe) stupid question, but I remembered reading the rules, is a 3 frames improvement in a 63629 frame run can actually be accepted? I know we are considering the frame precision in a TAS, but is it really enough to be considered an improvement? Over, maybe, the published movie, who did most of the job this submission is submitting? Well, if it's the same autor, I think it's ok, but, well, if it's not, would it be accepted? (think of this as a general question, not only for this specific TAS)

Hi everyone! Long time no see :) First of all, I want to explain my pause at TASing. It's actually pretty simple: I got a lack of motivation at a moment where it was beginning to be very hardcore. Plus my computer stopped working correctly, my keyboard not responding, and it was impossible to TAS anymore. Second, I still continued working on this game (it's my favorite game of all time, so yeah :P). So I did a any% route with the Lilty. Here it is: ========== Iron Lance 15 (23) River Belle Path (1) Shuriken B+0 +1 Novice's Weapon Steak (24) The Mushroom Forest (1) Double Axe C +1 Iron (25) The Mine of Cathuriges (1) Green Beret M +1 Iron (26) Partisan 20 100$ (31) Goblin Wall (1) Double Axe B+0 +1 Warrior's Weapon (32) Tida (1) Twisted Headband B+0 +2 Master's Weapon Steak+Artéfact+1 (34) Moschet Manor (1) Flametongue B+0 +2 Alloy (2) Artéfact+1 (36) Sonic Lance 25 300$ (41) River Belle Path (2) Loaded Dice B+119 +2 Mythril Steak+Artéfact+2 (43) The Mushroom Forest (2) Ice Brand C +2 (45) The Mine of Cathuriges (2) Sasuke's Blade B+145 +3 (48) Dragon Lance 30 700$ (53) Goblin Wall (2) Mjollnir B+138 +3 Artéfact+2 (56) Tida (2) Giant's Glove B+193 +3 Steak+Artéfact+2 (59) Moschet Manor (2) Masquerade B+132 +3 Artéfact+2 (62) Veo Lu Sluice (1) Ashura C +1 Steak (63) 300$ Lynari Desert (1) Heavy Armband B+226 +3 Artéfact+2 (66) Mount Vellenge (1) Masamune +5(+9) Artéfacts(+Steak) (71) Total: +28 +5(+9) +30 +8 (+2) = 82 ========== Ok, it MIGHT be hard to understand. First of all, I routed on the assumption making money is a waste of time. BUT that an attack damage route is still faster. That's why my father would be a blacksmith, because I can get discounts, and save money. On the same logic, I never use the river. My only boat cost is 300$ to go to Lynari desert. And finally, I get myself all material needed instead of buying them. Is it really the fastest way to do? I don't know, probably not, I just used a theorical logic. I calculated everything almost perfectly, optimised the artifact drops, and made sure every boss fight would be as fast as possible by eating steak if necessary. I hope this routing can be useful, that's the reason I'm dropping it here. Finally, I managed to, wait for it, play in multiplayer! Yeah! But ther is no way to do "legally" a TAS with this. I imagined ways to make some parts of the game with it, with savestates and such, but I'm still wondering a better way. I mean, if I could place the gba imputs on dolphin, it would be great. I know a recent Wind Waker TAS did it, do you guys think it's possible to do with this game too? Well well, there is everything I needed to say. Have a great day :)

Those ennemies can be placed at 5 different places. 2 of them are way too far out of my way, 1 is a little out of the way too, and these 2 are probably the best positions I can get. I manipulate them at the frame I press A when I enter the dungeon. Problem is, I have to manipulate the bonus points too with the same technique (needed 103 points for the good set of artefact, and then manipulate the artefacts after the boss). This is the best route possible because 1 is in the route to my third thunder magicite (north-west) and the other is in range of my haste spell (otherwise, it would be at the other side of the map, making the route either without haste, or a big detour). Daemon's Court is a "one room" dungeon, and I calculated, after many tests, that this would be my best route possible. Going "out of the way" is a necessity here, and it's also what happens in RTA anyway. Also, since I'm a mage, I have to create good opportunities for magicites. I do not recommend to play Yukes in RTA. Too dangerous, and only faster if you use perfect TAS-only plays. I'm not talking about tricks, really, a superplay, like dodging every single calculated attack and go fast enough to "overwrite" some monsters/boss cycles. I have hard times playing the dungeon normally just for my testings and it is very slow. I don't know about the probabilities of the cure ring. I know it's very rare. But I also know how to manipulate it without losing frame (or at most 1 or 2 frames, I lost 0 frames in this TAS) so it doesn't matter really much. Armor designs are not supposed to be on that chest (in my version, there is only heart pendant and cure ring) so I guess either it's a version difference or you are not at the good cycle or you confuse it with another chest :) Thank you for your appreciation <3

I did many improvisation on this part. Mostly because I was planning a route and changed my mind arrived at some destinations, because I just found a faster way. We could consider them mistakes, they are 2, and I prefer consider them playaround since they don't make me lose time, or at least not very much. Well, only you can judge it. The execution was as perfect as I could, like always, so even with these 2 minor little thingy, this is a "high quality" work. Link to video This is the end of year 3. Thank you very much everyone following this. I'm dreaming of sub 2 hours, and it's a dream that can come true. Let's continue :)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Link to video This part was funny. I concede the total victory of this battle to the giant crab, who genuinly countered many times everything I done, including pushing me outside of the safe zone while doing fusion, and making me miss an hit (wich didn't lose any time). First boss, and probably the only, to last more than 1 minute.
