You are right. Now that I see it, maybe my route diference was a mistake. I'm gonna cancel my submission so I can check better where are the differences

I mean, the Full Completion RTA wr does not do the same route and tricks as me, because most are TAS only, there's day/night cycles you need to adapt for, etc. But we technically have the same rulesets.

Techniques banned from RTA are Cube Duping, Reset Manipulation, Save State Manipulation, New Game+. Considering that, which part of your full completion definition actually differs from RTA rules?
Does RTA ever skip/simulate puzzles? If it doesn't result in a proper full completion screen, I guess not.
Is "resetting the run while entering a load/door" the thing that RTA rules call "reset manipulation" or something different (maybe just a subset of "savestate manipulation")?
Those you linked are the rulesets for 209.4%, which are slightly different than Full Completion. Full Completion is kept vague, and I often had discussions about using glitches and other routes. Dupes ARE allowed, New Game + IS allowed, and Save State Manipulation/Reset manipulation IS allowed for Full Completion and not for 209.4%. For my TAS, I decided to take the most vanilla approach, as it's the approach RTA runners use too, but I COULD have used glitches.
Yeah, skipping puzzles is done in other categories (like 209.4%) but not in Full Completion because it doesn't flag the room as yellow. Reset manipulation is a type of Savestate manipulation, where you reset the game at the same time as entering the door, yes, you got it right :)

I've played this game before, but it has been a very long time, and I've never really tried speedrunning it, so forgive me if this is completely off base.
A minor question regarding the collection of the two small yellow cube pieces at 45:15 IGT, you spend several seconds running over these three pillars. Is there no way to use a perspective change to access the far right pillar from the far left one? The ladder attached to the third pillar is too far down, and the jump is probably much to far to make it to the 4th structure here, but is it possible somehow to do a ledge grab or land at the exact correct time or something during a perspective shift?
It is hard to answer, my immediate answer would be no, because I remember having tried it. Of course, I could be wrong, but at first glance, simply rotating would cost me time, because you would be required to rotate at least twice, and not a double rotate. But you know what, I'm keeping note of it, and when I get the time, I'm gonna test out :)
EDIT: Maybe I was unclear, I'm sorry I'm bad in english. When I say the TAS is making some rules, it's not compared to RTA, it's compared to what I could do in a TAS. This TAS follows all RTA rulesets (except being a TAS, of course)

It's mainly because the route is very different, and some sections are just done differently because of bits routing. I use strats like frame perfect jumps to not get the 8 bits gold cubes until I can "fuse" it with another cube per example. Otherwise, I also just found timesaves that may be used in the next RTA wrs lol. There's also all the routing around bits, cubes and items oscillations... Also day/night cycles for the owls, as I'm sometimes TOO fast for them (or fast enough to do them in a different order). Something RTA runners would not even care about (because they realistically can't). It's kinda hard to really tell you EVERY difference in routing between RTA and TAS because there's soooo much. It would be straight up easier to tell you what's the same.
TLDR: They are hard to compare because more than 75% of the run is straight up different, different route, different strats, etc
If you have a part you want more clarifications on, I can answer it, as I'm not sure exactly what you are asking :)

Still in the process of watching, but I want to say: thank you. This is the sequel I wanted for a long time. And it's not even from the same TASer!
I am truly entertained (so easy yes vote), but more than that I feel like learning. I am a routing fan, and seeing your work and explanations is such a delight. I am loving my experience watching it, and I know I made a "negative" feedback on your video, but truly, most of your subtitles are perfect and it's so small. I really want you to know I appreciate this TAS, it is a work of art.
When I explain to people what I love when I TAS, I often showed them the gen 1 coop diploma TAS. Now, I'm gonna show them this one.
Thank you

I made the TAS based on the idea it's not writing to disk and it has never be opened (fresh fresh install). There's this thing that if you open the game at least once, it creates some files on your computer, and it can change some syncs, but I reset the game at frame 1 (as you have probably experienced) which basically creates the files and makes the TAS sync even if you have opened it once (theoretically). It is also faster to reset the game frame 1, so it's a win-win ^^
The thing with writing to disk is I had the feeling it wasn't consistent, but maybe I'm wrong on that. In any case, it syncs, and that's what matters to me :P

Is there a reason why you don't go for 0 stars, which is probably possible with all that speed? I'm not an expert, so feel free to correct me. Like, I get that the goal is 1 star, but what's the main reason of choosing that goal?

So it's due to a glitch that if you start a run while entering a loading zone, the next run will start in that room (that's the tldr). If you play without speedrun mode, you can just use saves, but with speedrun mode you can't save the game, thus the only way is to enter a zone and click "reset run" when you enter it.
In zero %, the route is any% (I use the any% TAS inputs) up until entering Moon (last zone). Then you reset, and you enter the room instantly, with 0 cubes and the timer is reset at 0 seconds. The interesting thing about that run is that, especially for a TAS, I have early control of Gomez (the player character) while the cutscene is going. Meaning the whole room is very janky, a lot is off screen, the perspectives change a ton and the route is thus slightly different (and very fun).
So the movie would start at clicking "reset run" instead of game launch. However, the whole movie file syncs from game startup too, it's just that everything before "reset run" is the same as any% lol.
EDIT: I encoded the TAS, so I will soon share it on Discord to give you a better idea on how it looks like :)

So I just finished a TAS of FEZ of the category 0%. The principle is that you play the game normally, then open menu, and click reset run. The run starts when you click "reset run". For encode, just starting from a savestate is absolutely possible. Could that run be accepted?

Like Samsara said before me, I feel like if a fan-translation makes the movie more entertaining, it shouldn't be outright refused. As for most rules, I feel that a case to case basic would be the best, as entertainment is kinda subjective anyways.

Here's a quick opinion of mine about cheating:
Cheating is not following the rules. If the rules allow cheats, are they really cheats?
I can't really answer the poll for that exact reason. However, if we ignore the word "cheats", for me things should be allowed if they help in the goal of the TAS and it's substantive, per example using a code to unlock a secret difficulty setting, or correcting a glitch.
Here's a more clear example: you already accepted my FFCC TAS, yet it uses a patch code to prevent the game to crash after Goblin Wall because it was badly coded and Dolphin struggles with that.
TLDR: It should be accepted/refused on a game to game basics, on a category to category basics, on a context to context basics. Making a global ruling that would accept ALL of them or refusing ALL of them is not a good idea in my humble opinion. We have judges, let's give them work, they can make that judgement ;)

I would say that if a movie is that easy to beat, then there's almost no excuse to accept it, as the author could just redo it. It's important to have standards, even for the first TAS of a category. Accepting a suboptimal movie has more chances to get the author satisfied than to help them improve.
On the other hand, my point was mostly that I don't hink I would personaly enjoy an any% TAS of this specific game, as it's not the most fun game to begin with. To impress me, you would need an incredible amount of technicality (and not simply answer with the correct answer). I didn't vote because I didn't get to see the TAS (hard without temporary encode), I just just don't feel it's the kind of game where any% would entertain me anyways. Also, I feel like the objective is somehow too arbitrary in my liking, as "training" is not the main game in the... Game. Correct me if I'm wrong of course. Most games, when going for pure any%, have a clear goal (reaching credits), and I feel it's important when defining it, as if a single game can have multiple any%, it's kinda weird isn't it?
tldr: It's not purely about game choice, it's also about category choice, as I don't think this even is any% in the first place.

Don't overdo yourself. Always try to like working on your TAS. If ever you feel no satisfaction or fun working on it, then take a break or stop.
On that note, congrats and thank you for your hard work. I really love this game, and I'm happy it is currently being TASed :)

"I can do this faster but I didn't since this is my first TAS"
"I could have some slightly tighter jumps and faster shell spits, but I did the best of my ability."
Ability is something that can improve given time and effort. Even if this TAS will surely be rejected, don't give up. You can't settle for mediocrity when better can be done.
Good luck for your next TAS :)
