In the upper left room near the back of the mansion, you hit each of the Tonberries twice, then retreat all the way to the door before turning around and running back to hit them the third time... is there a reason for this strategy? Wouldn't it be faster to deliver the third hit locally? O.o

A Longplay would take the time to read all the dialogue, explore all the scenery, and generally soak in the game as it is presented; a Tool Assisted Speedrun would skip or interrupt as much dialogue as possible, take any known shortcuts, and generally never stop moving.

That's an interesting comparison, but I doubt the slides would be nearly so effective on uneven terrain. Still, that's really neat! :)

Awesome! Skipped the whole "Hop off Pura & show him affection" animation. :) Crash3 is one of my favorite games ever; I love seeing progress here!

Sure, you could do this, but its generally slower because with the punch you have to be closer to hit the towers. This means a timeloss of 10 seconds-ish just for waiting for the tank to get in range. Also, the towers only accept one hit at a time, so hitting more times is useless.
Understood. :) That's why I phrased it as a question. I wasn't sure if the boxing glove's spinning in circles could trigger the one-hit-at-a-time more rapidly than the tank's spitting missiles, since the spitting missiles seems pretty slow.

You know that Fluff can punch with the Tank's boxing glove, right? I recall it being very useful for attacking things farther away/more rapidly. You can also waggle the remote to make the punch glove spin about the tank. Could either of these help break walls faster?

I love it! :D 2p for this game seems to have a lot of tricks in this vein. I know you can abuse the "one player picks up and throws the other" to beat a LOT of the Carrie mini-games really swiftly. Looking forward to seeing more 2p action!

Stupid question, but are those the stats before the initial fight, or for after the post-first-fight level-up?

Looks nice. I have never touched CTR on the TAS level but that looks optimizable to me (for example the jump at the very beginning, I feel he could land a few frames earlier if he cut the corner better)
CTR actually has a pretty interesting mechanic called the "Hang Time Turbo," where a kart gets a speed boost on landing based on the amount of time spent in the air. Minimizing air time by landing a few frames earlier might result in a smaller speed boost and an overall slower time!! Lots of testing to do to ensure optimization.

I'd be interested in some sort of "Super Play" of Bubble Bobble. Many levels have secret conditions that make for bonus points--the first level in the NES version, for example, turns all spare bubbles into point items after the final enemy is popped. It'd be pretty cool to see some tool-assisted crazy-high scores. :)

The NES game's collision is a fair bit different than the Arcade. In the NES version, if your character is trapped in a 2 tile wide gap, (as wide as the character,) the player can still jump straight up and bubble on the way up to escape from the pit. In the Arcade version, the bubble pops as soon as you blow it, making escape impossible. A handful of levels are different between the two versions. Overall, I think the NES version is easier to finish and takes less time. In my experience playing them both, the Arcade version is more challenging and less forgiving. But the Arcade version also has the secret rooms, which were removed from the NES version!

Thank you for the extremely detailed answer! :) While I'm sorry the question made you revisit the idea a few times, I'm glad the issue seems to have been settled conclusively. I'm looking forward to your run!

I'm sure you know of this already, but if you spend the King's initial 1500 gold to the last cent, and talk to him again with 0 golds, he will give you 1500 new ones. Would this be faster than farming golds from monsters?

Don't you get a better/best ending for defeating Lavos in the palace, anyway?

I hate to say this, but just because you have slowdowns doesn't make it a TAS.
Technically not true. TAS just means "Tool-Assisted Speedrun," and using slowdowns to play the game quickly (albeit imperfectly) certainly does qualify it as a TAS. Your later points still stand, though. :) When people hear "TAS," they tend to think "exhaustively optimized" or "played to the best of human ability." lxAntonxl, if you want to make it "as perfect as possible," it's going to take a lot more than just slowing the game down and practicing. :)

Oof. My MS-DOS memories of crystal-clear square pixels are bruised and battered by that screenshot. :) I am not a fan of the filters for rounding off the edges! That's a neat glitch, though! In that particular level, a TAS would hopefully employ two perfectly-timed Exploders (especially considering there is a later level on a higher difficulty which demands precisely that) and not need to utilize the Blocker glitch...

Can you explain the Wet Dry World 11 hour water level wraparound glitch? Google wasn't able to turn up anything useful.

1:06 behind the bus and then 1:12 felt really slow and looked unimpressive. :\ The tests higher up on the page looked incredible because you were constantly getting money pop-ups and driving at relatively high speeds. More of that insanity! :)

Why are random lemmings turning into Bombers, even in levels where no Bomber tools are granted? :O
