To Zer0: Found any new strats or glitches? I was thinking if you found any cool tricks, do tell me; perhaps we could even redo the run together :P
I would tell you if I found something, but, no, sorry, I haven't really played this game in quite some time. And no, not a good idea, I'm pretty much out of the TAS business, sorry ;/ I'm sorry I'm not much of a help for you ^^'

I would very much like to see a TAS of THPS1, I played this very much back in the days. Unfortunately I myself have not too much experience with it, and I can't get the N64 TAS emu to work anyways.

Ah that's nice, I'm not at home for a few days, and when I return I get this run. I'm impressed with your improvement, sure yes-vote :)

Zer0, what's with your arms?
Well, I used to cut myself massively. I used to hide my arms in long clothing long time but now I'm pretty comfortable with it and laugh about jokes like "I wish my lawn was emo so it would cut itself" ;)

I didn't try to be honest. It's a very common glitch when you actually play the game. Likely linked to the frame of the animation in which I enter the exit/speak to the girl. Do you want me to sacrifice frames for it?
I do. I didn't even knew of that glitch and got it by luck in my WIP back then. And I haven't seen this anywhere else aswell.

2. Enable Multitab affects timing. This means, since the current one is recorded without multitab, it's either 2 player, or desync as soon as I switch in the third one. This sucks. It means I have to start over. (Zer0, if that was the reason you abandoned your wip and you didn't post it here, you're gonna get whacked!)
uh oh. That actually really was the reason I abandoned it, didn't I post it here? ;_;

Guybrush, your dog's eyes scare me. In that pic, they look alot like my old dog's when she was sick and we had to put her to sleep. I hope yours is fine :) It's very cute.
It's not my dog, it's my sisters. And it is yawning in that pic, so he's not sick.
I first read "it's not my dog, it's my sister" :P And yes, you really do look older than you are. http://mitglied.lycos.de/jemandesbenutzername/sdlvd.jpg here some new pics from me

Truncated and other interested parties in this game here: If you want you can take my movie as a base and hex-edit where you think there could be time shaved off, just write my name in addition if you submit and it's fine. I currently totally lack time to do anything.

First boss, could it be faster to destroy the gears to the left first to get less walking distance afterwards? Or is the waiting time the same regardless?
Hm I checked, is indeed much faster.
The autoscroller in Mad Doctor level, I think you can jump off the cart differently to keep your speed and end the level sooner.
Nope, I just tried different ways to end it, everytime exactly the same.
3:04; can you jump down the hole to turn right sooner? (you do it later around 3:16)
Could save 2-3 frames, yes
4:30; can you start walking so you don't hit the wall before it disappears?
I guess so. No time gained, but it'd be a minor optical improvement.
Beanstalk Mickey: do you need the flower to grow all the way up?
I think I let it grow.
10:38; jump so you hit the leaf earlier. (Perhaps the time gained is lost on the mosquitos.)
Some minor improvement is probably possible, about 5 frames I guess.
11:27; jump down the hole.
Right, that saves a few frames.
11:43; doesn't look like you hit the seed as early as possible (but I could be wrong).
I think it is. The collision-checkboxes of the seeds are pretty big.
12:00; i doubt that it's faster to jump from the beetle than to jump up directly.
Right.
13:13 somewhere; why did you stand on the book to lower it if you were going to bounce off the enemy anyway? Why not bounce directly?
The collisionboxes change with every animation, I had to wait for him to be just in the right frame.
In the ghost levels, would it be possible to either continue jumping up the staircases after they collapse, or to ascend them after they collapse to avoid the wait while you slide down?
Nope, no way to prevent from sliding down. I'll cancel it for now, will try to hex-edit the above mentioned stuff in.

So how is it going? If you have problems with hex-editing I could give it a try, have done some successful edits in the past

Are you going to take hits this time through? There will probably be more spots where you can save time by taking hits in a 100% run.

Well, go ahead and open a topic specifically for funny playaround with cheats. I think a topic for this should be sufficient, I see no need for putting such runs on the main site.

Finished! http://www.lockntoad.com/homyguyz/amhaynes-ewj2rough.smv I'm going to go back and hexedit it to redo Blind Sally and Flyin' King before I submit it as I mentioned, and See Jim Run has a moment where I pause before a jump by accident that I'll go back and fix, but other than that this is the complete run. Oh, and the movie end is in a weird spot because I skipped past the last cow image out of habit, I'll fix that too. Comes out to be 41:08 with 148105 frames and 9132 rerecords. A few things of note: In Udderly Abducted there's a few spots where I jump/whip for seemingly no reason, it's to stop the UFOs from lifting the cow so I can pick it back up. And in the fight with Flamin' Yawn at the end of Level Ate it might look like I missed, but I actually went through it a couple of times to be sure of the number of shots needed to kill him, so I'm still connecting. I tried to avoid taking damage where I could, but I'm a little inconsistent on where I shoot for best time and where I try to make it look better by avoiding it. Level Ate especially is a little weird about this with the eggs on the frier. Let me know what you think, the full submission should be ready pretty soon.
Looked very good. One question, why did you do this secret room in Level Ate?

Tangerines and Soil: excellent Puppy1: you did good in keeping the level at least a bit entertaining Sally: hm didn't look very smooth King: didn't like it at all, but I know what a bitch that level is Puppy2: see Puppy1 Abducted: so far, so good

Very nice :) Didn't felt like fast-forwarding at all, that's a rarity with RPG/adventure runs, or even with "normal" runs ;)

I'd volunteer, but I've never done one and am new to the community so I am probably not the best person for the job. Especially after watching Zer0s movie (the luck manipulation was real good, I wouldn't have thought of all of it.)
I actually thought my try wasn't that good ;/ It's not hard to learn how to TAS, so if you have good knowledge of the game and patience you might should learn and give it a try ;) And yes, count my run abandoned, I'm pretty much out of the TAS business, at least in doing it, watching - anytime ;)
And why wasn't Tropicallo timed so that he can take more hits? I know earlier in the thread zero said he couldnt get it, but Im pretty sure Ive gotten more then one longer above ground with him even with normal play.
Been a long time that I've done it, I'm not sure x_x
Have we figured out if luck can be manipulated to generate more crits?
Not me.
The hardest parts of the run would be figuring out what items to get and when, and what to level and when. Am I right?
Probably.

heh, you are right, yeah ;/ But I think you can generally really trust most players here, so don't hesitate to do some competition just because you doubt the authentity of it all.
