I wonder why there's this bug that causes the game to freeze... I mean, didn't they ever tested it? Heh, I guess the developers themselves weren't able to stand this game for longer than 2 levels and they didn't had the money to pay any beta testers to play this more than 2 minutes =p

Holy cow, the terrible factor on this game is just amazing. Did anyone watch the opening sequence? It's right up there with "all your base." With how short this video is, I think it might be worth including this in the video, it would be the most entertaining part.
ALL YOUR BASE! haha, probably the most popular piece of engrish =]

Righto, I'm done. It's about 4:37hrs on the clock, so the game can be beaten under 5 hours after all. I suspect it can go down maybe even 10 minutes faster with cooler optimisations on the fights. geocities.com/spenev/ToP.zip
whoa cool! I'll watch this right now /e: what the?! Is this just me or is teh zip file empty ?! I downloaded this 3 times and everytime same result... Meh, me wanna watch this ;_;

The Highness and me will co-operate on that one =], at this point I want to say some thanks for The Highness for offering his help, it's good to have a partner in such a long game. Atm I'm playing through the game once and place a savestate at every boss, so with the help of a savestate hacker we can test all bosses and what stats and levels we will need for them. We'll only do the bosses 2 player (controlled by human), everything else 1 player. I'll force my brother to do the bosses with me.

About this sub title thing again.. How many people do you think is going to watch this that doesn't already have played this game?
I guess hardly anybody ^^', who that doesn't know the game would ever be insane enough to watch such a run for hours ... ?! Anyway, I think such subtitles would be nice =] I'm really looking forward to the movie Jyzero, great work so far !

Hmm...
In Secret of Mana, you can do an ultimate attack early in the game. What you do is play until you get the girl or sprite. Have a second player control it. When in battle, equip YOUR character with a weapon you have a skill level of 2 or higher. Equip the SECOND player with a weapon that YOU have a skill level less than the one you just equipped yourself. Now, charge your weapon to the maximum skill power. Have the second player equip the weapon that you have charged. You'll see them being tossed to each other, and when his weapon gets to you, your power gauge will freak out and you will hear a chk-chk-chk sound. It fills up faster than normal and you can execute an ultimate skill attack even though it's at skill level 2 or something. You can use this over and over, naturally.
I wonder if this is also possible with only 1 human player controlling, should work I think with switching around. I'll try that later in the game, if this really doesn't work then I guess I gotta do this 2 player, if yes I think I will only have the 2nd player controlling by a human in boss battles, no one's that crazy to do a whole run with me.

Very nice, mate! Good you picked that one up, I'm not sooo experienced in it anyway and I haven't got time for too many runs, so I can more concentrate on other runs, especially Illusion of Gaia and Secret of Mana :]

Sry no progess, it's as far as the current uploadet smv is (or was, they kicked my account at Lycos, I did bad things with it =:o ). I'm not in the mood for some speedrunning/timeattacking atm, let's see when I find my motivation for it again...

Yeah, I guess it should. Maybe someone should do M.E.S.S. which has loads of consoles and others. Then again, You might as well just write a controller plugin for N64 and PSX instead as those are the only ones I want to see (Well, N64 really, but I'm sure someone would say PSX one day or another, which they already have). EDIT: You know this was done in July, just brought up again
What the!? LOL, and I didn't knew...

AWESOME! You da man blip :D Good you made that for that Emulator and not MAME32k or something, this one requires a much less good computer to run flawless than the others. So I, with my super-modern-high-end 500mhz and 64mb ram computer can too use this :D

I don't mind I just felt like showing it anyway.
We don't need 100 movies, we need excellent movies.
Slowdown alone isn't anything that speaks for a not so perfect movie. Under 2000 rerecords for 30 minutes is not very much, especially if played in realtime...

Questions: - Are you sure you entered the name and started the game as fast as possible? It was way slower than in Zelda. Does the game react slower?
I think it's done as fast as possible, I did it at 6% speed and tried a few times and always got the same result.
I agree with that it has slower reaction time than Zelda, but I disagree that you did it as fast as possible. http://bisqwit.iki.fi/kala/startr1.fmv does it clearly faster than in your movie. Star Tropics requires to hold the button for two frames and release it for two frames. And that's what I did.
ooooh guess I gotta redo it then, maybe I manage to hexedit it...

Pretty cool. Do you REALLY need to talk to all those people in the village, though? I would enjoy watching a whole movie of this, so please do continue! *thumbs up* -Josh
I will definitly continue this run. Let's see, maybe I can do the run to the end of the second dungeon until tomorow evening. And yes, I have to talk to some people in the village. Not all but quite a few. It took me quite some time to find out who to speak with and who not.
Questions: - Are you sure you entered the name and started the game as fast as possible? It was way slower than in Zelda. Does the game react slower?
I think it's done as fast as possible, I did it at 6% speed and tried a few times and always got the same result.
- Did you really have to talk to all those people? Is that the specific set of persons you need to talk to in order to get to the cave? Like, couldn't you have substituted the person behind the house with the person in front of chief's house?
Yes I have to talk to specific peoples Ok I proofed if StarTropics has higher reaction time in the menu at the beginning than Zelda, and yes it has.
