Yes vote, leaning towards Meh. So much repetition and whatnot, but mostly it was a solid run. I just wish everything didn't feel so bogged down as it looks.

The big difference is adaptation. You'll see this on the front page:

These are movies of classic console games being played extraordinarily, using an emulator as a tool to overcome human limitations such as skill and reflex.
I just don't see a huge use of super skill and super reflexes when you can predict everything precisely. Other games are heralded as great works because they have to employ some sort of superhuman "skill" (read: not skill per se, but some sort of handling of the situations at hand) and reflex; both of which come to pass in situations where the player must adapt to the scenario.
Just because I know what 1-1 looks like in SMB doesn't mean that I'll be able to match a published run's time without a lot of tinkering and adaptation (assuming I don't copy published runs, that is). On the other hand, I don't think that someone would have such a hard time matching the completion time for this run. See my point now?
Also, just because you plan ahead doesn't somehow detract from the effort you put forth in to a run. Planning how you are going to power up in an RPG takes a lot more effort than just rushing the game and throwing points around on the fly. I find the comparison of knowing a platformer's level design and planning an RPG's stat spread to be very flawed.

Short summary of an often made post by me: While I believe that speed is important, entertainment matters too. Unfortunately, most people here seem to believe that getting the time that appears next to your submission is the ultimate goal.
I don't want to get in to the whole "is speed a derivative of entertainment or whatnot" debate that this site gets in to every 5 months, but I will say this: most people don't care about time completion if the game is boring: they will reject it. Concordantly, most people will let completion times be non-optimized if entertaining things go down: gained entertainment can and usually will undo lost time. The whole idea that people aim for speed along with entertainment is because there is an ethos that doing things faster is entertaining in and of itself.

So let's have all of them.
Well, I would think that the "legit" low%/any%/100% would be published as straightforward runs, whilst the RBO/NBMB/Xray glitched runs would be non-published (but still accepted/appreciated) runs.
Just an opinion, though.

SM64 fans (and there are lots) will love this as it is a classic challenge.
Add to that:
I think if a video gets rejected because not every possible visitor would like it, then this site would be totally empty.
This reminds me of the Combat Tribes submission by Phil. He accepted it right off the bat because he made the run that fans would enjoy, even though it seemed that there were very few people on the site who actually enjoyed it. At what point do theoretical fans play a role equal to the actual vocal opposition of site members?
I don't think that this movie will be rejected. However, I hope that it doesn't create some new arbitrary category for people to compete on. There is a reason that the SMB walkathon isn't in high contention. This should be published as a concept demo, but not as a legitimately restrictive run. This doesn't fit the somewhat accepted format of low%/any%/100% that is usually attributed to the competitive publications.

It's a good thing you have all of my posts memorized and bookmarked so I can take that little trip down memory lane, it was fun thanks.
You forgot to mention that one time I spelled your name inccorrectly and you spazzed out. Where is the link to that?
Actually, all your posts are right here. Don't flatter yourself. The only reason I pull them up is because, honestly, if you look at the reception you got in that Rockman thread alone, you would know that it's more of a blunder than anything. IRC was quite a bustlin' with jokes aimed at you with every thread you made asking generally simple questions.
Also, I got mad at other people for messing up my name (namely, pirate_sephiroth). For you, I mostly let it slide because I was more interested in just getting out of the thread. I do that to everyone that doesn't have the common decency to at least look at the name of the person that they're talking to. Then again, RMotion, I don't really attribute common decency to you.
THAT BEING SAID, let's get back on topic. No one has compiled a list of which subforums are blocked to non-goons, so I can't really promise that I won't accidentally post to a wicked thread that some people can't get in on. Obviously, my advice for everyone to just buy an account was in jest, though it still isn't the worst idea ever.

For what it's worth, I visited Nintendo Records.
For all intents and purposes, it's not worth a lot. The only reason nintendorecords was mentioned is because Alden's avatar looks a lot like ziplock's, which seems to have made Phil draw a parallel between them. However, Alden and ziplock are two different people using a widely used (and differently composed) avatar.
About the run: at what point is a run so easy to optimize that it no longer becomes impressive to watch? Honestly, if you know all the questions ahead of time, it takes little to no effort to make a run that beats the game as fast as possible.
Me and my friend were talking about what exactly it means to be an 8-bit system and ect. We both had little understanding. Can anyone here clear up what a bit is? How many bits are the consoles today (xbox, gc, ps2) or do they not use bits anymore?

Aside from BYOB, FYAD, and the major closed off areas of the subforums (YCS, HD2k, etc), what parts of the forums are member only? I can't remember, since I've been a goon for so long :o
A lot of people complain about "I can't view this until I register," even though they don't realize that there is a disclaimer on every forum page. I've heard people complain that GBS isn't open to the public when all they have to do is scroll past the disclaimer.
Also, simple solution = everyone should shell out money and get an account so that this never happens again.

Honestly, this seems like a downgraded version of the 120 star run. After having seen Rikku's latest work, I was pretty much able to watch this whole run at 3x speed, only stopping at places where I couldn't figure out how you could earn the star. Aside from seeing new routes in the Bowser stages, and that wicked Chuckya glitch in Wet Dry World, there was nothing that I was really interested in. It just seems like you put out this random restriction (are there any stars that really NEED the cannon, afterall?) and then made a good attempt at it.
I hate to throw the term around some more, so I'll allude to it. CCC-less is a good concept, and I think you demonstrated it well enough, but I can't give this a Yes vote. Unless someone convinces me to vote Meh in the next 3 minutes, I'll probably be giving this a No vote.
Also, why does the carpet ride always start off as "Mario is really entertaining" and quickly delve in to "I guess Mario assumes we have ADD"?
e: Alright, FODA made a valid point that this run was done for hardcore SM64 gamers. That being said, this is not sm64.com. No vote.
<Zurreco> they should make it CCCCless
<Zurreco> no coins, caps, cannons, or crappy restrictions

Although I would like to get excited, something tells me the game won't be released until at least 3 years from now, probably more. :/
The in game footage that Yautja linked to is actual in game footage. Obviously it was tweaked a bit (rotating vantage, scripts for the GG), but it's definitely not CGI. That being said, the game is obviously somewhat completed. I'm guessing that it will probably come out just in time for Christmas, ideally.

In case you've been living under a rock for the past two weeks, Blizzard has been slowly building hype for their next big release. Using an intro splash screen on their site, they've been building up to their next officially planned game by playing off of their great track record of original PC releases. Today/tonight, at a Korean Starcraft tournament, Blizzard finally announced that Starcraft 2 is officially on its way to release, though no date has been set as of yet. Along with this, they aired their teaser trailer for the game, which doesn't look too shabby.
Starcraft fans can rejoice. While I'd have rather seen Diablo 3 hit the shelves, encountering the Xel'naga is more than enough to satiate my Blizzard needs.
This thread is officially about anticipating SC2/bitching about the lack of D3 updates (they haven't even restarted the D2:LoD ladder in forever million years).
