Based on our failed attempt at replacing yes/no with the rating system, I think he might not be reaching enough. Back then, ratings were hugely over-inflated if they were done pre-publication. It was clear people considered anything less than 10 (or 9 maybe) as hurting a movie's chance for publication. I think a similar thing would happen in a 1-5 scale. 4-5 = published, anything less is a somehow a No. I think warp is using logic and sensible reasoning. That won't be reflective of how it will end up being used. Calling the 5 point system confusing though is silly. We all know a 5 star review system. It's a reasonable idea. I think though, we have historical evidence that suggests it won't be better than what we have now.

Bizhawk and lsnes both provide better alternatives for GB/C games, and between the two, provide an adequate user experience on any modern operating system. And both are far more accurate. Let's also consider SGB. Both lsnes and Bizhawk provide better emulation for that one too. Unfortunately it's not so easy to programatically disallow .vbm files conditionally for certain platforms. So either we need to feel like we are ready to disallow VBA for GBA games, or we need it to be a rule change not a software change

Once they are shut down, we should follow up and actually remove people's avatars that are still using tinypic

<adelikat> because everytime a border line case happens, judges over-emphasize how they don't look at polls as justification <adelikat> then people get upset <feos> I don't think it was even caused by a borderline submission. more likely by binary thinking <adelikat> well, I think judges always give that impression in these cases more than they should, votes absolutely matter a lot <adelikat> you don't get into moons without the votes <feos> can you please post this?

I love that you found a way to break that 30 second frame rule! That was always my least favorite part about my previous TAS. And it looks like you found a lot of nice tricks and optimizations. I'm impressed, and entertained!

When I first saw this run, it looked boring to me, and my initial feeling was to either reject it or publish as another branch. However, reading Maru's judgement notes, I find his line of thinking compelling, and exactly what we want. I approve wholeheartedly.
Reading this is occurred to me that I haven't expressed this publicly. But this is precisely my experience as well. 100% agree. And excellent work to Maru, this was a tough judgement. And the logic changed my thinking on this issue :)

Is it possible to make TAStudio use existing SRAM when opening it? Wanted to play around with a snes game from save data, but I can't figure out how to do this. I see File -> New From -> Current Sram, but simply opening TAStudio will overwrite the previous sram so maybe that's for something else. Is there another way?
That's the only way. And it's important to do it that way because it will automatically bake in the existing input into a verification file embedded into the .tasproj file. This will be required if you want to submit anything to tasvideos.

MTPO is a good one to bring up. A max out score on Soda Popinski is actually possible with the clock stop glitch. In fact you could fight him indefinitely. When you get down to low health, you can let him hit you with a jab to get more health, then you get more health by hitting him a few times, and repeat over and over. So yes, we need to mention that techniques like this should be disallowed for vault max score runs. Also we need to make it clear that max score should only be the full completion category when there is no better option available.

Okay I can say that for games that have no way to define full completion at all, and were more or less designed for score instead, it might be a lesser evil to allow "max score" for Vault as a replacement for full completion. I'll see where this gets us.
I agree with this, and I think it is in the spirit of the original intent of the vault rules. Full completion was left vague to allow it to mean whatever makes the most sense for a given game.

For that matter, how many runs are there that might be improved in more "conventional" ways by subframe inputs? For example, if a game polls the controller input multiple times in a frame and assumes that it does not change in the span of a few instructions.
Quite a lot, most likely

but this IS also forum for Bizhawk specifically right?
Yes, that is correct :) While this is the tasvideos forum, the bizhawk subforum is intended for general BizHawk discussions. For things like prg ram, it is likely it needs to be in a game database as such. Currently we use the NesCarts.xml file in the gamedb folder primarily. Then use gamedb.nes.txt for any additional overrides. It's likely that's how quicknes "just knows" to do PRG RAM. You can add a include gamedb_user.txt with the appropriate information about your homebrew rom (look at the nes one for examples) and it should pick up the PRG RAM. Also, if/when you "release" your homebrew, give us that game db entry and we can officially add it to the bizhawk package.
