i always thought the final fortress in Zanac to be an awsome battle to fight games with abosultely horrible/cheap final bosses: renegade, narc, TMNT 2. the boss for ninja gaiden is also very frustrating

i love that you found a way to do that glitch, as for speeding up the 3 irrlelvant moves, makes sure to not do moves that result in battle sequences since that would take the longest, also try not to move a pieces that requires other pieces to move out of the way (like the knight) if you want to speed up the cpu thinking then try to make moves that have an obvious answer, like take a protected pawn with your queen, or better yet, check the king with your queen so that he must take it, the battle animation should be quicker than the computer thinking at that level i agree with devience that immortal games will be over the head of any novice, and pointless for an expert. I like hoppers idea of it being a totally bizarre game that you would never actually see also there is some randomness to the novice level, if you take back a move it will sometimes makes a completely different move. you might be able to exploit that to get it to blunder

how about Zanac? the one i have published basically sucks and was done with an obsolete emulator. id say it could be improved by at least a minute. the advantage for a 1st time TASer is that most of time its auto-scrolling so you just have to have fun and make it entertaining. speed only comes into play at the bosses

1) chess art? that sounds interesting where can i find that? 2) battle chess doesnt have the 3 repitition-draw rule so you can move back and forth indenfinately 3) inputing a fast game is better suited for another program, battle chess is slow, a TAS then should exploit the features that are unique to battle chess game and not ones that are better displayed in other programs. the unique feature is the 3d battle mode. so I think there is only one choice: plays cpu at novice uses 3d mode aims for fasest TIME to the checkmating move these goals also allow the possibility to play as black if it means getting a faster checkmate

i pretty much agree with hopper, beating up on a computers programming holes really isnt that entertaining. for someone who plays a lot of chess (like me) an 11 move or fewer game isnt interesting at all. a better game would be somewhere like 30-40 moves with amazing combinations and unexpected suprises which for a tas would make it very long. how about a 2 player TAS? maybe input a classic chess match. chessmasters would appreciate the game itself, others would be amazed at the pieces moving around the board lighting fast? i dunno, that seems the most promising also with 3d, the fewest moves isnt necessarily the fastest in real time, since pieces like the knight move very slow. you would also have to consider captures. a proper strategy might be to find a way to suprise the computer and minimize the number of captures and use only the fastest pieces. i would find it interesting to see somone balance these considerations with the actual strategy of chess

remember that the hammer bros and frog suits are accessible inside some levels. and I really hope you decide to use the cloud to skip some levels

I would find a "uses no flute" run more impressive due to the extra planning required. then you have to find the optimal use of clouds, and determine if getting a frog suit or p-wing or whatever from a hammer bros is worth it. you would also have to find the optimal use of music boxes. I think "uses no flute" is better than "flute-less" since obtaining a flute might be a faster way to complete the level please dont get fireworks because I can't imagine anyone who hasn't seen that a million times. Good luck, this is an insane TAS to try to pull off. If you finish it then you are truly sick!

im curious about the use of marine too. there is no reason to conserve it since you dont use for the rest of the level and it gets automatically refilled at the end of the level.

sorry, but I dont have much else to put up, when I finish chp 3 I will update. I just haven't been able to work on this run. I assure everyone that I haven't lost any motivation and fully intend to finish it, school is just kicking my ass right now (im in my final year of my masters degree). There is really no way I will have any time to work on it until the end of the month. I'm as eager as you guys about seeing this run finished!

It is faster to buy the herb(s) in garinham instead of brecconary. I'll have more comments later but it desyncs at the 1st metal slime fight so i'll have to find the proper rom

perhaps choco-mint and univbee could work together on a Dragon Warrior 2 run?

I dont think I like th secrecy in this case. You are only "shooting yourself in the foot" by not posting. There are some very knowledgeable people here that could help you figure out whats going on and maybe even find some stuff that you may have overlooked.

as far as getting 24,000 might be possible getting the right enemy drops. the site I posted previously has this http://www.woodus.com/den/games/dw2nes/monsters.php that lists all the enemy drops. There are some premium items possible including the sword of destruction which will get you half way there as for getting criticals in your savestate run use a game genie code that gives you nothing but criticals, since you not recording there is no reason to waste time trying to manipulate them as for whether you can get the iron spear from the boss siber lion, my guess is that you can. but to be sure, find a game genie code that makes any enemy who can drop, drop and item.

I didn't even think of cursed items (for my run as well)!! with luck manipulation the cursed affect wouldn't be a problem. as for the falcon sword: of course it would be worth it! Assuming you are doing criticals on every attack (unless of course for some reason you can't get criticals on bosses in this game). I forgot that wings can be used to go to other towns (for some reason I thought it was like dw1 and only returns to the original castle). Optimal use of wings will be very important and can potentially save huge amounts of time. assuming that you will be able to get cricials on all bosses I would estimate this game can be done in about an hour

I'm glad to see that you are seriously attempting this run. I highly recommend you record your progress in an .fcm even though it isn't an optimized run at all. by replaying you can get more ideas and possibly catch things you would have otherwised missed. You should definately make a test run of a game before you attempt an optimized on, especially in an RPG as complicated as this. but at least make a movie and select record from "now" so that you can post it, so that I and others might be able to give comments. one thing you want to look into is whether button presses affect the random outcome. (Read my DW4 posts for more info). This can give you significantly more options, and reduce the amount of wait time when trying to get random events. The crest glitch thing looks very interesting but I have no idea how that might happen, it might be a result of bumping the console and getting glitched results (which in unfortunately un-reproducable on an emulator) Also, look into what random enemy drops. You might be able to get some essential items, or some things to sell. I know bullwongs leave wizards rings which should be useful this sight should be very helpful: http://www.woodus.com/den/games/dw2nes/ also, do you think that the lottery would be helpful?

well I finally got over the hudle and completed the chamelon fight. I successfully killed off brey and cristo which saved my about 30 seconds in level ups (and about another 30-60 seconds later on). I don't plan on updating my WIP until it is finished though. But I will post progress reports from time to time
