p4wn3r asked some question son IRC that I want to clarify here: "Would users be voting on tiers"? "Seems like this is a way to add more content but give the site staff the decision on which to highlight" No, I think in this context the question "Should this movie be published?" is no longer a meaningful question. Instead we should go back to "Did you find this movie entertaining?". Audience response will be the driving factor between the vault and moon tiers. (Or moon vs rejection in the case of non-vaultable submissions). The vault is largely non-subjective, and stars will eventually be decided by a dedicated user(s). Users will still be stating that they liked the movie, or not. For the most part there would be no change in the content of the submission discussions. A dedicated user (Starman) will be deciding stars, but again the response from the audience will be a driving factor. I would say a submission with 100+ yes votes is a serious contender (for instance). So voting is about entertainment value. And audience response will be a significant factor in how to "Highlight" a movie.

Should we adopt a tiered publication, then yes, there would be a lot of un-rejections to do. In addition, we would probably want to rethink some of the currently published runs as Vault movies. As for diluting the moon, I infer that you are implying concerns towards the meaning behind moon. Right now I'm just using moon as the name for this category, with an associated icon. Maybe you share the same concerns as Nach that you want a system to allow for a "noteable publication"?

We are currently discussing a proposal for re-organizing publications and criteria by which they are judged. Voice your opinion in this thread!

The proposal doesn't allow for dozens of Monopoly runs if you notice. The vault is limited to two categories (and actually I'm on the fence about it including full game runs, I'd love some feedback there). As such, at least 5 of those 7 monopoly runs are subject to "moon" requirements which means audience support, and entertainment value. Those 5 movies (which you are implying are garbage) would be rejected for their entertainment value and audience reaction.

We are actually developing a better filtering system with this. For instance, looking by game, by tier, by category, or any combination of those. I haven't considered rating in there though. But currently you can filter by rating, and rating is rather arguable in its validity <_< But it wouldn't be hard to add that ability eventually.

So here is my tiered proposal. So, I've been wanting to re-organize the site for quite some time now. In January I envisioned making this post to rally the troops and have an end of the year goal for this. Oops, it's almost Novemeber now >.< Fortunately Ilari has been doing some heavy lifting on the site code to do this during this year. (Much thanks!). So we are still well on pace. There is two aspects to this change I want to do. One is a game based organizational scheme (for the oldies here, it is basically "Tub's idea"). And a complimentary "Tiered publication" system to go along with it. This thread is geared towards discussing the latter. As I do want audience involvement with this idea. The idea is to have publications grouped in "tiers" that have their own requirements. In long run, the backend will now allow for changing/removing/adding tiers to accommodate future needs. In the short run, we need to decide specifically the tiers and policy of each. As you will see, the two main consequences of this change is that game choice would no longer be a rejection reason, as we have a tier to publish just about every game to. The other is allowing more diverse and numerous categories for a given game. Since I can only have one poll, and the categories is more of a consequence of a better site organization scheme. I have made the poll about game choice. Because this change is largely motivated by it, I want to know what you think specifically about this issue. Is game choice rejections a good or bad thing?

The moon (as currently used by the site) represents a notable publication. Do not confuse this with stars. A moon in this case is simply for being the first Atari 2600 submission. That's "notable"

Fun fact: This is the oldest game ever submitted (34 years old at the time of submission).

but is this something that a player can easily do unassisted? Holding off on voting.
I was curious too, so I tried. Took me about 3 minutes to figure out what the "route" was, and 2 tries to successfully execute it. So the glitch itself is easy to pull off. I gave it about 5 emulator unassisted tries and my best was about 780 frames (about 100 frames slower than this submission). However, I am torn. I think the glitch is cool. Abusing demos is relatively unusual in our tas literature (though this one falls fall short of arkanoid on cool factor). But it being this easy to pull off, then yeah, there's not much of a technical feat going on here. EDIT: someone requested me to explain in detail how to pull this off: Hold down as the game boots up (no intro screen, awesome) until you get into the phone booth and become super man. Then walk slightly to the right. Press the select button on the console Wait 2 screen transitions during demo mode Press and hold left, the game will glitch and send you through the door you were standing on, instead of back where you were. Go to the left and you will be on the final screen, touch the ...whatever that is.. and you complete the game. As for trrying to reproduce this time unassisted, there's really only 3 moments to time since you can hold down as the game boots up. From there you just have to press right immediate upon getting in the phone booth, and select shortly after (thats a switch on the console, that will be tricky). Then you have to press left at the right frame. Once you begin walking, it is easy to move diagonally to touch the ending block. If you give a skilled human about 1-4 frames of variance for reflexes, then a good human should reasonably do this run within about .2 seconds from the TAS time.

Sliding would of course be allowed in a B-less run...because it doesn't use B... It would just be a creative tactic given the limitations of the goal

yes, PCEjin uses the PCE core from mednafen. However it uses .8.x. .9.x has some significant changes to PCE. Might be worth trying to use the latest mednafen too.

Those games are indeed broken, and micro500 has already fixed them, they will be available in the next release!

Is it by chance the E7 mapper? Or does it use something I'm not aware of?

The reason for not using teleportation has to do with the FBI man's timer. It stops when teleporting among other things, and we need to do thing within the window of opportunity he has. Since if he appears on the screen he scares off the mothership.

I interpreted it more metaphorically. Going to prison would be the end to his way of life, etc.

Atari support is awesome. Is there support yet for the wheel controller (supported by Breakout, Kaboom!, and so on) via mouse, and if not, is it planned?
The paddle was planned, and was actually worked on, but micro hit s snag. It will be done eventually.

We have a bit of a change to announce. DarkKobold has stepped down as senior judge (going back to regular judge status). FractalFusion has stepped up as the new senior judge. Please redirect all your poo flinging to Fractal, thanks...I mean, congrats Fractal!

I don't know that the_randomizer is genuinely trying learn how to modify his behavior, but I'll post here anyway as it could help everyone! "Why it doesn't [bug] is beyond me.", I would delete this from your vocabulary. It comes off rude. Also it shouldn't be beyond you at all because the reason is simple. It was an oversight, or a bug, or not built yet. This is open source software, we try to make things good, it gets there eventually. I think any programmer would find this sentence insulting. Don't put a bug in bold. Again, seems insulting. Use the issue tracker and wait for the problem to be resolved. I recommend this one for everyone, it is difficult to track bug statuses in a thread format. Also, if you post in a thread such as this and no the Bug Reporting thread, I make no promises that I will read it. Don't get mad if your bug isn't in the next release. There's limited coder resources here, and I try to prioritize. Your priorities may not be the same as mine.

You say all systems, but which did you try? NES & SNES are slow, and if you only get 30 on SNES, you dont' have a good system. However, SMS, PCE, and GB/GBC should be plenty fast. Also, turn off rewind.
