Poor jump man isn't allowed to jump :( Also, I don't think this is possible in the nes or arcade versions, but if it were, that would certainly be cause for obsoletion (being more impressive and a better version of hte game)

Well, if you are using the PC Engine version, make sure you are using BizHawk 1.0.3! We fixed a desync bug in savestates after the 1.0.1a release

I unlocked this thread. Why was it locked in the first place? I don't know. Sorry it took so long to fix this. Should the other OoT thread be merged into this one? I haven't followed the two threads enough to know if it is the same discussion, or perhaps something different deserving of a 2nd thread (if so it needs to be renamed)?

First let me say, you people are nuts. Actually HATING a simple extension. So I dont agree, and this is wasting my important development time in my ideas. But, you win. I don't want to keep something people actually HATE to the point of wanting to throw insults. Of the alternative suggestions, the one I like the most is .movie (to go along with .state that is the extension of savestates). But before I change it, I want to know in advance if people are going to hate it and make topics. So here is your change to convince me of a better name change. Commence discussion.

I used to do that. But this happens fairly often, and I can't control where people host their avatars or what your browser decides is blacklisted on any given day. So in the end, it isn't worth it. Of course it would be easy for a user to determine the offending avatar and contact that particular user <_<

This happens from time to time. The message isn't about the site, it is about a user's avatar on the page you are on. People host their images on who knows what site. And who knows what your browser will decide is a "bad site". Either way, it is harmless, and their avatar can't do anything malicious to you.

Of those, I would recommend Mega Man: Wily Wars or NSMB for your first project. The downside to an all levels NSMB run would be how long it would be. Other than that, it would be two solid emulator choices for learning to TAS.

Well, a lot of people prefer binary movies, due to filesize. But there are also other advantages, like loading faster (which matters in the case of very long movies), smaller savestates, and faster loading of savestates.

To summarize Brandon's post: If an emulator had both a binary and a text file format. Would you want them to be the same extension and freely convertable? Or a different movie extension.

We were actually aware of a company already having the name (well, owning the domain bizhawk.com). They were close their domain expiring some time ago, we were banking on that happening so we could snag it :( As to whether or not it is a spam related company, I don't know anything about that. I do think our worlds are sufficiently separated though.

To clarify on some things DarkKobold said. Vecna actually does have one published movie, and a mild interest in TASing, but his primary focus in Bizhawk is core accuracy and not writing GPL code. Zeromus is a very valuable person to our community, more than most people realize. But he's not a TASer, and only has a passing interest in anything we do. He likes writing emulators. His interest in bizhawk is to not have to fix 1223235 poopy emulators with poopy code, and work on a good codebase inest. My interest in bizHawk is my vision of it being a universial emulator for TASVideos. The community and the benefits of the emulator to the community are my priority here. As such, I'm the one who implemented rerecording, countless tools, and feautres, and focused on a UI that I felt benefited average users as well as TASers. When it comes to the needs to the community, all three of us have actually been listening and done a lot since its release only 3 weeks ago to accommodate complaints, and fix bugs. However, I would ask that in return for the effort we put in, that we at least due respect to name our work the way we please. Most everything about the emulator could be democratic rule, but give us that at least. No disrespect is intended by keeping the name of the emulator we wrote the same. Personally I think it is a bad move to rename an emulator at this point. And you have to understand that you've been calling it BizHawk for 3 weeks. We've been calling it that for about 21 months. Its grown on me, and I can't imagine it being called anything else!

YOu need more than the .net frame work (direct x sdk, and c++ runtime for instance). Run the dependency installer that came with bizhawk, that's all that is needed.

Very nice! That does indeed look like it would save some time too, and close enough to the end of the game that it wouldn't be horribly painful to update my tas, I think I may do that now.

What he said. You should not let it run full speed ever on any emulator. Also, recording to the same movie is a really really bad idea on any emulator. If nothing else, you want a copy of each to verify they are indeed the same, to catch possible issues. And your first experiment with the emulator is multi-game AND multi-platform TASing? Man, you are pushing us hard right off the bat! I'm glad to hear the background input is working out well though, I haven't tested it much. As for the desyncs, I don't know, but those certainly concern me. Should be sync stable on the SMS core. We have two published SMS movies using bizhawk and my tests showed it was fine. However, I don't think anyone has specifically done game gear, so maybe there is some issues with the savestates for that platform? Let me know if you experience any more desyncs, and ideally provide the movie and some savestates from the TAS, and any information you may have. Desync issues are really hard to catch given they are generally rare and hard to reproduce.

I personally find the 1-player, as well as a 2-player run of this game entertaining. Nothing earth shattering, but certainly above "meh". I think you are on the right track doing a 2-player first. What you learn from that will only make an eventual 4 player run better. Also, keep us updated! I'm interested in this, I started a 4 - player movie some years ago but didn't get very far (at the time I was not happy with the tools for 4 - player, but those have evolved considerably since then).
