Detour for Hammer suit = 760 frames Boom Boom fight start ~ screen transition = 730 frames In other words, the detour takes longer than the fight even takes, so this won't save any time. Maybe you can acquire Hammer suit in a level though ... I'm not sure.
I think you're underanalysing this. If we did end up using the HB suit, it would be is a strategic location as to use it in as many fortresses as possible. For example, if we use it near the end of world 7, we would save time because we wouldn't need to get a fireflower, and would also save time in 4 boom boom fights, blus maybe the boomerang bros. Not to mention bowser himself. Also, IIRC, hammers are faster than mario, so it would save time in 8-2 and maybe a few frames in 8-1 and the body of 7-F as well.
This is what I was thinking. And I hope it works out, being sledgehammer mario to finish off the movie would add a lot of entertainment value to the warpless movie and make it more significantly different than the warps movie. The two movies would compliment each other better.

Before making my decision on this divided issue, I'd really appreciate some feedback from Ryuto. I'm curious what he thinks about the response to this TAS.

If the author is trying to improve upon his previous work, why is it a problem that some are the same?

I don't have a well thought out plan or opinion on the issue but I do know a few things: 1) I would like to see the gap between tasvideos and the large Japanese TAS audience to shorten. 2) There are a number of nice TASes on nicovideo that are publishable here, and I'd like to see that happen 2) I'd be willing to modify the region rules if it means achieving 1) & 2) amaurea's suggest seems rather reasonable. The language barrier seems to be the biggest problem. I'm not sure what to do about that.

Awesome! I know there's a generally agreement not to do all the endings on the site (since you're suppose to limit the branches, according to the rules), but I think 3 (Chase/Surrender, Lab/Fight, Secret Ending) gives the most variety while including the best ending.
Is there any room for one of these to be a 2-player run? Also, good job on this one Soig. Looks like you put a lot of effort, found nice improvements, and made an effort to be entertaining where possible. (and I of course voted yes!)

However, how do we treat the old run and this one then?
Simple. Either this one is deemed more entertaining than the previous and it obsoletes it. Or this one is rejected for failing to live up to the previous movie.

Perhaps there should be a more unambiguous guideline. I have always liked the "no further input appended to the end of the movie can make the game end faster or slower (or cause the game to not end at all)" principle.
No. I love how you miss the point. There is no right answer, why would I force one? The guidelines discuss all possibilities in detail.

Brilliant. I wouldn't have thought the previous movie could be clearly improved, but it was. This will get a big fat rating from me once published.

Actually Aglar has already been the victom of this. Someone removed a blank frame that was in his published Donkey Kong Jr. TAS. It was prompty dealt with. When to end input often has no clear answer. Therefore we have always let the author make that decision for themselves. In my Marble Madness TASes, I always tried to end input as early as possible without sacrificing the game completion time. This makes sense because otherwise you could end input earlier but watch as the ball slowly crawl over the finish line much later.

I think I agree with this. Not to mention that the full run is still a short movie.

[1600] Arcade Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles "4 players" by DarkKobold in 12:14.85 [1613] Arcade The Simpsons "4 players" by adelikat & DarkKobold in 13:37.73 As I tried to bring up some time ago, both of these movies are very similar in terms of entertainment value. Both are 4-player and popular arcade titles and both deserving of a star. Interestingly, at the time of this posting, they both have the exact same ratings. However, I think Simpsons has the edge in this battle, and I'm not the only one as evidenced by the audience. Simpsons was shown to be way more popular in the award votes, not to mention in the submsision votes. I gave the TMNT star to Simpsons. Feel free to discuss thoughts on this matter.

Awesome, glad to see our Game Resources pages are helping spread the idea of TASing. (Also, I moved this topic to the news forum. It is specifically designed for talking about current events related to this site)

I have to agree with DarkKobold completely here. And to add to the precedent, there's SM64 low 14%. Also, there is the soon to be precedent of SM64. Like this game, SM64 used a glitch (BLJ) to beat the game in 16 stars, then later found a way to use the same glitch to beat it with only 0 stars. I set this to obsolete the previous movie and named them pipe glitch as the branch name. IIRC the previous movie before that did not use the pipe glitch? Perhaps the debate is whether it should be unobsoleted as a glitchless category.

It could be defined as "no skipping the star requirements for the star doors".
The problem there is that obtaining those stars will just look like the 120 star run. A low glitch run would differ a lot more from the 120 star run.

Since this run will most likely be rejected, can it be at least mentioned in the current "0 star" run submission text?
Given that Swordless' 16-star run was mentioned in one of the 0-star movie descriptions, this is a high probability!

Agreed. If moved to the top it is actually a very nice concept. It doesn't get in the way and adds a touch of professionalism to the encode. Kudos

I went with SM64 0 star, it was just so much bigger an improvement than I had ever expected could happen, contained some new tricks, and looked very awesome.

I went with DKC 1 by Tompa. The movie impressively optimized, and a gigantic improvement over the previous movie.

Voted for Tetris fastest 99999, that one was an epic obsoletion, and epic & hilarious glitch, and a TAS that is easily appreciable to a vast audience. One of our best publications.
