I must admit, I looked away for just a moment, and I ended up losing track of everything. But the good use of that one foe to quickly get to the level needed to do well in the final boss was what sold this. YES vote.
For a starting TASer, it's a good run. Would prefer a 100% run rather than an any% run on this, but still, I can't deny that you've given it your best shot.
Voting MEA because of bad goal choice, but a good run nevertheless.
I must say that the ending is not optimised, as the player doesn't do anything during the final bonus section, wasting some time there. Also, I don't know if the text after that can be skipped. True, the timer might had finished before then, but it doesn't feel right to me. If he can sort that out, then I would vote YES. However, I'm abstaining from voting for the moment.
I'm going to wait for the encode before making my mind up. But, from the lack of submission text (which is somewhat understandable seeing as he's russian) I am somewhat leaning towards a no vote. However, I reserve final judgement for the encode, as per normal.
It was the later.
Anyway, this is very interesting, and I like the fact that the player not only showed the gameplay, but explained how he was able to TAS the game. YES vote from me.
I believe that it would had been better off doing it 1p rather than this way. That would be more interesting.
But for this run, I think it's going to be best off being gruefood. However, I'll vote MEH as there is potential in this.
Well, if it does drop down to 0hp for a few frames, but then the HP is recovered, then the 'takes no damage' should be replaced by 'takes damage to save time', but the fact you can heal when you have 0HP may be a bug, so I would also add that fact in.
As for my vote... well, I think this is a good run. May be a bit boring at times, but the way the player deals with the bosses is enough to get me to vote YES.
I'm sorry, but I don't see the point of this. Just one look at the game made me quickly make up my mind. And the fact you went for the quickest ending, rather than the 100% run, has solidified my NO vote in stone.
Hmm, from what I've seen of your WIP TAS, Wak017, it looks really good. Of course, it would possibly fall under the 'Uses Warps to save Time' category when you used the mirror to warp back to the entryway. Just one question: will you be getting all the Portrait ghosts and all the Boos, or just the required ones?
Well, how I see it is that you could use a bot to solve a simplified version of the 'problem' - for example, finding the optimal movement pattern in a single area of Pokemon Red/Blue - and then implement that solution into the TAS - in this case, the movement that Red/Blue/Ash makes to get through that area. But unless you are prepared to study loads of movement patterns, which can take hours or even days to solve, I can't see how well this would work.
With 1, the final FMV does not mean the game is beaten. There may be some player action AFTER the final FMV. So this doesn't count.
With 2, this is possible if the game in question naturally restarts the game after the credits, like Donkey Kong.
3 is almost the same as 2, but the fact that input is required to initiate the restart (a bit like in the walkathon for SMB, ending in the game ASKING for the player to press B) means it is somewhat better to show that the game is complete. This also applies to 4.
Finally, 5 is such that the completion screen is on for too short of a time for the human eye to notice normally. So this doesn't count either.
Well, by going through some of the recent submissions and saying what I would vote has managed to allow me to apply those votes. Still, once I gain enough experience, I might try some TASing of my own.
Dear God. How in the world were they able to play with death like that? And that situation occured several times in a row!
I think the whole sense of HP management is packed in this screenshot.
And I think that could also be the screenshot for the video.
Anyway, I was thinking about the 4-branches thing, and this was what I came up with as the possible five categories: (Yes, I am thinking of a fifth category, but mainly because that that category would serve as a sort of a 'Hard' mode for Super Metroid)
Any%, Minimum Realtime or Gametime Run, Non-Glitched
Any% Glitched Run
100% Run
Any% RBO Run
Low% Run - For this sort of run, it would be somewhat like Other M's Hard mode. That is, all upgrades are allowed to be collected, but with both Missiles, Super Missiles and Power Bombs, you can only collect 1 of each. And as for the E-Tanks? Well, you shouldn't collect any of them. The same would possibly go for the Reserve Tanks. It would provide an interesting challenge for players, yet not be as restrictive as the low% "speed booster" & "ice beam" runs with regards to what beams can be used. In fact, it would cause players to use the beams more often than a normal speedrun. But this is only just an idea.
As for this submission, it deserves to be included as another Super Metroid run.
Talk about some high-speed antics here. And it's clearly maxed out the score, just like the old submission. Comparing this to the previous run, I think this a improvement that warrants publication.
So, once I stop being classed as a 'lurker', I'll be giving this the YES vote it deserves.
Well, I must say, this is a very good TAS run. And the fact it's a 100% run, meaning the player doesn't spam Fire's ability all the time because he needs other abilities to get some of the shards, makes it much better. And, I would give this a YES vote if I was able to. (Then again, I've hadn't needed to post on here until now...)
