To get to boomboom, you jump through the wall before the spike room, the first room.
Yea, but if you jump through the wall in the spike room, you go by the whistle, which takes a long time to go that path... i think if you keep sliding through you go to boomboom. Flying up to get the whistle by going through the door up there is much faster than the alternate methods.
But it was a good idea. I thought the exact same thing a long while ago.

No, that's slower. I thought the same thing, tested it on console and was much much slower... one reason being because the timer has to count down when you finish the level opposed to getting the whistle, another being that you have to actually go a much longer distance to kill the boom boom.
EDIT: Actually it's also because sliding through the wall takes forever... I forgot.

Very confused by this whole concept. Are you taking inputs from each game or something? And how? I mean wouldn't both just be pushing against the right side of this black box?

Looked alright. I'd like to see a bit more of the game though. I say keep TASing it, if it seems too boring after a while, just quit it. That happened when I tried TASing a few games. I realized there would be no way the runs would even get accepted. Who knows, maybe you'll find something interesting to exploit. :)
EDIT: Oh, and after the first battle scene I THINK you could save a few frames by not walking directly up against the right side of the screen. Instead, walk left for a bit, then walk rightward at full speed (and get to the very edge of the screen right when it starts scrolling).
I'm bad at explaining. Watch what i do in my TAS after the first battle:

But definitely keep up with this!

I've wondered about this kind of thing in the past, but I'm not sure how well it would work out. I may or may not participate... might be kinda fun though. It would probably be good to choose a game that hasn't already been TASed to death and possibly not with arbitrary goals. I mean go with the basic categories: low%, any%, 100% runs, etc.
I mean, with some goals I guess it could be interesting, it all depends.

two topics/category to have all the options of the polls?
aka: 6 topics for the 3 categories.
I think my option is annoying, but simple. And obviously, they will only stay around for a short time.

Man, this is too tough...
I think I'm gonna have to go with... Super Mario Bros. warpless by a hair. I just gotta, he outdid me and I know the game inside and out.
But, that SMB TAS performed many things I thought to be impossible.
All the other TASes listed here were amazing though. I remember each very well. Some bionic commando things were cool, like the wraparound grapple move.

Hmm, I'll check into that and post something if I find anything interesting.
Though I feel it could only work if Wart is still able to be hit (not grey colored yet). Maybe something strange can occur, but I'm guessing you did the glitch I stumbled across. I'll do some testing anyhow. Maybe I'll find something cool.
Also, I think I'm going to try and hook up my DVD recorder + a different TV soon and do some console speedrun attempts. I'm a bit rusty, my last set of attempts at this game were pretty awful. I came close to ~9:05 a few times, but always screwed up at the very end (the wart fight usually). So hopefully I can get those setup shortly, I'd like to make some attempts!
Cak, good luck on your attempts. I think this will be some fun competition.
