INCREDIBLE! 10/10. Can you even rate them like that anymore? Anyhow, that was such a crazy TAS. I loved every bit of it. Especially Woodman ;) I think this is now my second favorite TAS of all time.

I've just been going crazy trying to optimize this... just cuz. I found 5 more frames in the room with the weightlifting eyeball as well.

So Rick and I are working a bit to improve this. I was just curious if this could be optimized more so I decided to help out with it. Any additional help would be greatly appreciated... you around Supper? ;) If anyone else is interested in helping out, feel free to. I'd like all the help we can get. :)

I definitely want to see the fastest track times for each track. I mean the actual time of the TAS doesn't seem as important to me.

I always wondered... does pausing and unpausing the game right when a track starts faster than just waiting there? I'm guessing it's the same amount of time, just a thought. EDIT: Also, definitely looking forward to this one. Hopefully I can improve my console times a bit more.

http://speeddemosarchive.com/flash.pl?ActRaiser_SS_10706 Does the console run boss fight beats your TAS? They look awfully close time-wise.

Is there a working link to the 24 star patch? I'm interested in this game, but not interested enough to play through the normal game eight times.
I'm not sure. heh, You should just watch the TAS 8 times or something lol... not sure if that would work or not.

Yeah, I'm kinda doubting a TAS of this would ever get published on TASvideos, unless some new glitch is found. :/ Maybe the three of us should work on some other game ;)

2.) Super Jump (found by andrewg): Hold "A" for 1 frame. Hold "Start" for 1 frame. Do nothing for 1 frame. Press "Start" for 1 frame. Press "A" again for 1 frame. Pause & Unpause every other frame (?)
Also, this is with the "skip lag frames" option in FCEUX. Just so no one gets confused. I haven't really tested out the items, maybe those could help glitch something else? Maybe you could do something like pause glitch bosses (like how it's done in megaman).

If this one's as easy to break as Ghoul School, I'd be happy to. ;) It certainly has the same low-budget feel going for it. Unfortunately, it's not likely I'll have another stroke of luck on this like last time. I'll poke around and see what I can find, though.
Just so you know I found a way to jump twice as high when first starting the game, but nothing other than that.

So basically, Rick and I have been looking into this game again. I'm thinking that maybe something major could be found to make it more entertaining. Anyone willing to help look for glitches? :D

I have a strange feeling that 1-3 and 5-3 are improvable still. ^ and if those are improvable we'd improve 5-4 as well most likely. If we ever see an improvement it will most likely be in those two levels. EDIT: Also, I just tested level 5-1 again... and I've determined it should be unimprovable (using the bullet bill for the flagpole glitch is impossible to save time I believe).

Apples: if you don't mind waiting for the heat death of the universe, we can do that. Say there's 8500 frames in the fastest possible movie, and the game has six inputs that matter. So to check every possible combination of inputs, you'd need to do 6^8500 checks. The actual number is smaller (we can assume, for example, that any inputs that result in Mario dying are unproductive, and that input during points where you have no control over Mario don't count), but even 6^20 -- every possible combination of the first twenty frames of input -- is 3656158440062976. If you could simulate 100000 frames per second, you'd need 1160 years to check all of those.
We should just get every TASvideos member to run it on the computer and we'll have the results within a year. EDIT: Also, corner boosting isn't possible.

I'm curious if anyone is progressing on any of these smw TASes. I'd really like to see an updated smw any% TAS sometime soon. :)

This is one epic improvement. Not sure if we'll see this improved again. Though, I've now said this 3 times, at this point it really does seem perfect. I can't believe that we're 1 frame short of improving level 1-1 by 21 frames. And it's like impossible to improve it. I really doubt anyone will ever save that frame and improve this TAS either. Congrats klmz on a "perfect" TAS.

The funny thing is, the 8-2 in this movie was faster than the published warps, he noticed and fixed it. That also means this whole time, Happy Lee had improved 8-2 compared to the warps, and didn't know it (nor did anyone else notice).
Well, thing was it may have not been possible without the fast acceleration however. It probably was improvable anyhow, but who knows? EDIT: I'm hoping this submission doesn't get obsoleted for quite some time. With the current progress, that's about a week''s time. ;)

Big-time spoiler alert The vine glitch is awesome! It allows Mario to run way closer to the right edge of the screen than he should ever be able to, and causes an unexpected wraparound at the end of 2-1. It's even cooler in 3-1 when it also causes him to walk through the stairs. It's even cooler in 6-2 when it also causes him to walk right through a Koopa Troopa! I love the progression of awesomeness each time this glitch is used. Easy Yes vote.
I agree with this. You don't expect a Mario 1 run to be so shocking, but this run is almost star-worthy. Very nice run guys.
Yeah, the progression of awesomeness was my plan. :D

Got 36:19 on track 0; comparable improvement should be possible on track 1. Should be a couple weeks to get this run together. :)
Very cool. Beats my best on console track 0 time by 7.50 seconds. I love how the TASes always pwn me at the games I rock at.

Andrew: I looked at it and don't think facing left can save time; reason is that the published run lands at speed 33 and releases B for a frame, instantly slowing to 24. The segment does not appear to be limited by ability to slow down, but rather by the speed at which Mario can get to the ground after the pipe...
Yeah, I tested this about a week ago and it didn't work. :(

Interesting analysis Lord Tom. I'm curious if there's anything else like this we've all missed.

I'm curious who is going to be the first to start working on this. heh. and whether or not a TAS of this would even get accepted.

Also, HappyLee, I have also given up trying to improve this. I just couldn't find a way. I bet it IS improvable, but I just can't find it yet. Maybe in the future I'll look into doing this TAS again. Congrats HappyLee, you're a great TASer. :)

If I made a video of a bunch of fm2s, could they all be spliced together into one video?
I don't know about splicing them into a big fm2, but you could definitely splice them into an avi/mkv. I would be happy to help with that, actually, as that sounds like a promising idea :)
http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/901142291/mario%20death5.fcm hehe... That's just an example of the type of things you'd see. I just think it would be a really cool idea and I'd really like to continue to work on a project like this. :D This should really be discussed elsewhere, but I think doing this could help in the optimization of different things possibly. With a compilation of nearly all the glitches in one video it could give several ideas for ways to improve smb runs.
