Going to room 49 in the debug is kinda funny. If you go through the door, watch where it sends you. It's like an additional "warp zone" in the game. I'm going to explore this some more.

Glitchman, don't give up! It's not your fault if the game doesn't exactly have improvements in certain places. Keep trying to come up with solutions to problems, you may have overlooked something? Anyway, 40 seconds sounds like an awesome improvement regardless. I hope you find more creative solutions. I bet you will, you're pretty good at that. ;)

Just some info The highest score I ever got on one life without abusing the turtle shell was ~1,030,000. It mainly comes from combo-ing enemies with turtle shells, getting 5000pts+fire works on each flagpole, and killing Bowser for 5000pts each time. I don't really like the idea of a high score TAS (at least not for SMB), I guess it is a bit interesting, but you're not going to get more than 1,100,000 or so without abusing some turtle shells for points.

So make that a forbidden move in the run. I wonder if it's possible to max out the score in the game without performing the trick with the turtle and without dying.
That seems impossible.
I wouldn't be so sure of this... just because of the turtle shell (waiting) trick. It's a turtle shell trick. If you jump on a turtle and hit the turtle shell the frame it gets up, you will get 8000pts. If you did this on every turtle in the game you could maybe max it. However, that wouldn't be all too entertaining. With unlimited lives you could easily do it as well, but that would get boring fast.

I'm doing a smw 100% console speedrun. I was curious if there were any wips of smw 100% TASes that I could possibly view? I'm sure the majority of tricks used would not be possible on console, but I don't want to miss anything. Is there a map route change from the current 100% smw TAS? The map route seems pretty optimal, but there seem to be quite a lot of options to choose. Also, have there been any major level shortcuts in any of the non-any% TAS levels (with glitches and such) that I should know about? Any extra smw info would be appreciated. I would like to know the fastest methods people have come up with since the old 100% smw TAS.

Sorry, I started more trouble. I'm no sm64 TASer. I should try though honestly. Also, that video of BITS is really cool. Especially a triple jump at one point.

Voting yes. If you've played the game yourself you can understand how frustrating this game is. I thought this TAS did an excellent job of showing a difficult game get crushed. Landing and gassing up sequences were always a pain. Also destroying everything is very impressive. Unfortunately, I think this submission will have the same fate as some other games. Games in the past have been rejected for poor game choice. I'm one for accepting good TASes on games people don't like (even if it's not extremely entertaining), but the majority are not. This game has been known to cause much frustration among gamers. Another reason i think it's a good addition is because it shows proper play to those that may have not understood the game mechanics "back in the day."

I also have an idea for the stage 2 boss fight. When console speedrunning this game in the pas I had something interesting occur. I destroyed 2 jetpac guys and went to destroy the third. I accidentally lured it offscreen and the game declared me victorious. Since there were no enemies on screen for a brief time, it sent me to the next level. I'm not sure if it could save time, but I figured I'd mention it, If you could do something like lure one jetpac guy off the right side and one off the left and kill the remaining one, I think you'd be able to complete it faster. The current method is very fast though. I'm not sure if something like that can work.

Thinking about that one mine in the way... I know that if there are many sprites on screen occasionally mines will not appear. Is there a way to manipulate more enemies on screen and this mine will just disappear? I'm for jumping whilst ducking kisses. And leg-kicking jumping kissing.

If it's an entertaining run, I don't see why hacks shouldn't be accepted. Watch it before you make comments too...

This is a game I went glitch hunting on a while back. I searched the game in and out and I found one graphical glitch involving using a rocket launcher as you jump to climb a ladder. I mention this because I really don't think much time can be saved beyond this. I looked at the last TAS very carefully and spotted no improvement whatsoever. Anyhow, I'm curious if there are any other improvement to this run. I didn't know about the rocket thing, so that's interesting to know. Nice work finding that! yes vote.

You are saying a spin dash happens here? If so, I'd say that disqualifies the movie. Though I would still like this to be an opportunity to get an idea of public opinion about this category idea.
No, I think he was saying a screenshot frame.

If you're quick enough, then you can use the flagpole glitch on 8-3 and still have 244 seconds left. And sorry, but what exactly is the 21-frame rule? I've read it, but don't exactly understand it. Is it sort of a restriction?
I don't think that is possible at all. I just did a quick test to verify this. You would have to be doing this an entirely different method, one that involves just running and jumping to the left of the base of the flagpole to get it to work. If the flagpole glitch can be done that quick, then it would save time in many other places as well... but uhh one question: Are you using the PAL version? Or are you just assuming it's possible? A nice explanation of 21 frame rule: "It isn't random or due to slowdown. Think of it like a window at the end of a level or pipe room that is only open every 21 frames. Say you have two separate runs where you reach the window on the 50th time it opens. If you arrive just after it closes the 49th time then you have to wait 20 frames for it to open the 50th time. If you get there just as it opens the 50th time then you can enter without waiting even though you arrived up to 20 frames later. Generally speaking, you can only save time in multiples of 21 frames (0.35 seconds)." - scott kessler

One question: Does spitting nothing (air) at a boss damage it?
