I don't get it for idea 2/3... where're going to get the mushroom then? You still need it sooner or later, no?
Getting the mushroom later in level 4-1 and flower in 4-2 should leave it so that no time is wasted later... I think. I'm a bit confused. Happylee, are ideas 1 and 3 are equally as fast, both saving 63 frames? Also, I feel like combining ideas 1 and 2 could result in the fastest method.

I'm glad you were able to save time by using the shell. :) I can't see anything else that is improvable. How is this coming along now? Are you at world 8 yet?

This was a pretty good run. I dislike mario's triple jump noise.

very nice. I considered TASing this game in the past, I had wondered if there was some improvement lurking. Also, considering the run is almost completely just straight running, it's surprising to see an improvement. congrats! :)

Zipping in Bubble Man's stage in a 'low glitch run' sounds contradictory.
But we need some kind of tangible limit on what we can and can't do. Just having a "low" amount of glitches is very unspecific. One of the potential ways we can draw that line is by mandating that the glitches we perform must also (feasibly) be possible to do in an actual speedrun.
That's not what this type of run should be. http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/6396214 ^ This is the will soon be the current record and look what it does. Is it low glitch by any means? nope. Making a run that is feasible for a console speedrunner to perform is an interesting idea though... I mean it would sure be useful to a console runner if a TAS like that could be made. But one can never know this type of limit by any means. There are often alternate ways to perform many "TAS-only" glitches on a console. So I think if you're trying to make a low glitch run is should just be "Use NO glitches." It's like making a perfect speedrun under twingalaxies' rules.

Isn't entering that initial door unnecessary? Could the "opening door" animation be skipped by bljing on the stairs? (or is that too far out of the way)? I mean, I'd imagine you could blj on the stairs leading up to to the top floor and go straight through the door (skipping the door opening animation) and go straight to the level at super speed.

Any updates on progress?
Hope andrewg can answer this, because I wanna know too:)
Sorry, I'm really slacking... :( School's been keeping me busy, but I've gotten distracted with other things as well. :/ It is progressing though. It probably could have been nearly finished by now, but I just haven't had time/effort to do this portion. I had redone one level and then towards the end it went wrong because I completely forgot about one subpixel value. I also almost saved a frame somewhere, but basically I'm still 64 subpixels slow and there's no way I can improve upon that. So I'm going to try and make a lot of progress tomorrow. Hopefully I can manage some things.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mlyo8rjeSo&feature=related So how did this happen? The high height that is. I would imagine this saving time in say Bitfs, maybe? I'm probably wrong. but say you could go straight up the the entrance to Bowser.... It looks like the glitch works due to there being an invisible wall. I would think if you went to the boundary of any level and found a blj spot, you could gain insane height (which might be useful in a few areas)... like bitfs. I'm probably really wrong. XD http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=EoHNlgWHXRg 0:23 makes me think that maybe you could go through the ceiling to the endless stairs... that would be epic. I think people should experiment more with the height glitch I mentioned.

In the first fortress, it would be wise if you slowed down when flying to the whistle secret. You hit the wall and come to a dead stop, it would be better to go fast, slow down and not hit the wall and then speed up again. I enjoyed the run quite a bit. I'd like to see more work with this. I wonder if there are any other SNES exclusive glitches that can be exploited.

Anyone still working on the "warpless walkthon" run ?
I'd do it, but I think it'd turn out to be a boring run. I tried it at one point, I just figured tasvideos would definitely reject it...Unless something interesting turned up from it. Maybe I'll do a test run of it again sometime if there is interest.

You really don't seem to understand what the term "exception" means. If someone really wants to tempt fate and deliberately make a run using the Japanese ROM and try to appeal to the unique exception made with this publication, then by all means go right ahead. I just don't understand why. If you use the English ROM, and the run improves this publication significantly, it will have approximately 100% chance of getting published. Using the J ROM much less. So why take the chance? It's not like a TAS of this game can be done in a few days. You risk doing potentially months of hard work which may go to waste simply because you wanted to play with the rules. Maybe it will get accepted, but why take the risk? It makes no sense.
All I'm saying is that the site should be consistent. If it allows this J rom for this run, it should allow the next one if need be. Of course I would prefer the U version, but if it comes to someone doing the J version there is no real reason it should be rejected...solely based on the fact that this run was accepted. Also, I was wondering the same as Adelikat, does the J rom have something the U does not offer? Do people really even know the main differences between the two (besides text)?

You deliberately want to break the rules and don't care if the submission gets rejected because of that? I honestly don't understand that attitude. Is it some kind of protest against something?
submitting with j rom kinda makes sense. i mean tasvideos shouldnt have accepted this run because it breaks site rules anyhow. it has set a standard meaning future runs shohld have the same exceptions...

Mugg, cool to see you do some kind of walkathon. I wonder if there are some other games where this could get interesting. yes vote.

This is what I was going to say, but wasn't 100% sure of that. Thanks for clearing that up for me. This is an interesting strategy, I hope something comes of it.

So wait, was the point of this speed or fewest shots? EDIT: I guess speed, however at points it seems slow. It's surprising to me, however I can kind of understand the reasoning behind this being much due to the "no-friction" thing.

071D Camera X shows that just running right has Mario placed slightly forward at frame 15. the value is 94, the value on the other two are 93. I think...

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1132618338/Enemy_glitch1.fcm With this glitch, I think you can pretty much see how the "enemy dying randomly" glitch works. It is very confusing in a few ways though, I can't always seem to reproduce it. I'm also not sure if this carries from screen to screen. I would think maybe it does. I doubt it could help improve anything for a TAS, but it is interesting. I need to test some more things.

"We also prefer quality over quantity - a poor quality run will not be accepted whether it is a game new to the site or an improvement to a pre-existing run" I'm thinking that since this run is improvable by so much, it really shouldn't be accepted. What about if I beat this run in real-time? Would TASvideos accept it?

It tried a console speedrun of this game at one point. Basically my idea was to complete 1-2 missions and then go rampage with the tank. It didn't actually take very long. I think I managed to find a mission WITH the tank use previously. I beat the first level in ~8 minutes if I am remembering right. However, this was with just much tank rampage. I think the game would take probably 25 minutes or so by doing maybe 8 missions or so total and then just rampaging. Not sure how entertaining that would eb though.

I really surprised this run doesn't have a star: http://tasvideos.org/1123M.html Just because it's completely awesome. Also, why was Battle of Olympus removed? I think that deserves a star for sure.

There are two whistles, however, it would be impossible to gain both in any manner possible.
