We may have found what is causing the repeating boss battle. This does mess up the current strat slightly. It doesn't appear to be an emulator bug. sorry mz ;-) We'll test to see if it exists on the console anyway. It seems i may have to accept an extra battle before airbuster. I will probably have time to continue this run properly in may/june, so check back for progress :-D

You know, I never got an answer to this question. Even the ability to make only short TASes would be incredibly useful for a number of games. Does anyone here know how to do what antd describes in his post?
I think I built the dolphin svn version that was available before April 29th 2009. Maybe that version still works. I haven't tested any since then. Prepare for desyncs =}

Yes, they helped I don't have time for this game at the moment though. New college, etc.

This is a draft, albeit a slow draft Yah, I will have to enter the battle. Attack damage: 00F99EC (2 bytes) Cloud ATB: 00F5BBD - will be 255 for a pre-emptive battle Pre-emptive battle and Critical Hit brute-force script would be useful. I have not fully worked out how a critical hit can be predicted, so I just use the attack damage to compare to a known value.

I'm not talking about you or the forum post at ngemu. I said 'by email' in my post if you look carefully. Please be careful before assuming something :)

I merely repeated what a so-called PCSX developer and member of 'support' told me by email. Ok, very sorry for spreading lies! Thanks a lot!

PCSX support team told me the repeating boss problem doesn't happen on PCSX (non re-recording), and that I should make an issue with the author of PCSXrr. mz.

Btw, the repeating boss battle is not fixed. The only way I've found to prevent it so far is to get into a battle before AirBuster (842 frames) or save+load (900~ frames). Randomly entering the AirBuster room does not seem to change anything. Any other ideas?

if you need help with Lua scripting I'll try to learn it and help out.
That would be great as I have no programming knowledge :P At the moment I would need a brute forcer for critical hits, and a brute forcer for pre-emptive battles. Actually you already know about this as you made that Java bot, an automated version of that would be the holy grail. It would be very helpful if you could learn Lua :D How can you open the lid in PCSXrr?

Starting again using Lua fixes the problem Here's the AirBuster PXM for those who want to try and fix it. http://login-ssl.com/FF7/PXM/airbuster.rar

can't you avoid the battle on your way out?
way out of where? there was a small mistake made in reactor 1, there is an alternative strat to get out of the reactor (I'm only 2 seconds slower)
why did you jump off the train late?
it's faster The amount of time lost so far, some seconds, is tiny compared to the total game run time. I will first complete Disc 1, then I'll be able to restart and correct all mistakes. Lua scripts will be able to make the boss battles faster. That reminds me, I need to send a message to dromiceius

Has LUA scripting been implemented? If it has I could start FF7 again =]

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04t_06NysAA Part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6cboBUhm48 The emulator seems to have trouble with this game. Sometimes after defeating a boss you immediately enter the boss fight again. I have not found a way to stop this. This never happens on the console. It seems quite random though. The GS boss fight also had this problem when I was testing possible strats, but I was using a separate PXM so it did not matter. EDIT: It seems the newest version of PCSXrr now has LUA scripting built-in. With LUA scripts I could start again and improve my time. Anyone with Lua experience want to help? At the moment, I need a brute force thing which can find critical hits. It can just look at the amount of HP the attack takes? And something else which can find when back-attacks are possible (pre-emptive battles). Just has to look for 255 value on the ATB address? I have all the memory addresses for the above and I know how they work.

Well, you can work it out using the Date Mechanics FAQ. I think the time difference in the actual date scene is around 1 minute 20 seconds. I don't have the exact figure yet. The time difference comes from the Event Square play In the normal speedrun, it's faster not to date Barret. I'm not planning to. edit: i wrote 2min instead of 1min

To get a general idea i'll just hack the ram addresses to test which date is faster

For the Shinra HQ lift, i think the fastest way is to get 1 or 2 battles. I forgot what the lowest amount of battles is. It's written in an FAQ somewhere. I'll test all the possible date scenarios and go with whatever is fastest. There's no need to fight emerald weapon. EXP will probably not be a problem. Grenades are a must unless a new method of manipulating critical hits is found. They are fast and high damaging. Criticals are slow, weak and manipulating them wastes a lot of time. Around 3 seconds was wasted in manipulating critical hits on Guard Scorpion alone. Shopping takes 12 seconds. Add another 13 or so seconds to that because of Aeris' garden.

At the moment, I'm not considering getting quadra magic. Magic is not used so much due to the Tifa-san plan
Tifa-san Plan
Because of the weapon's mechanics (Tifa's powersoul). When you check the weapon in the menu, it
says that it deals more damage when near-death, but she also deals more
damage if she's under Death Sentence. It works like this:

   Critical (yellow) HP: 2x damage
   Death Sentence: 4x damage
   Deathblow: 2x damage

Together, that's 16 times normal damage. Deathblow also ignores back row, so
it's 32 times back row damage. Awesome, huh? And in addition, we equip her
with armor and accessories to boost her strength. This is what makes Tifa
   the ultimate killing machine. -Garland
Benchmarks (Out of Midgar) 1:54 PC Version - Farringa 1:55 PS2 - Garland PC is faster than PS2. PS2 is faster than PSX. btw, my current time is 2 minutes 31 seconds ahead of Garland's normal run. In-game time is at 22 minutes. This includes the beginning, Guard Scorpion, to Jumping out of the train after 7th heaven. Apart from GS, mostly text-skipping. I wonder what my Out of Midgar time will be. Who wants to take bets :P

There's a possible sequence break which involves skipping Cosmo Canyon by using a clipping glitch with the buggy. There's a video on youtube. It may only be a theory, but I can definitely explore it when the times comes. There are a few other scenes which can be 'skipped' too - these are proven to work. It will be more entertaining if I don't tell you about them here though :)

Jeah i wouldn't waste time for the menu colors. The normal blue is fine imo.
Perhaps I was unclear. There is a section where I have to wait for 10 seconds. So going into the menu and changing the colours will not waste any time.

Update: - a small, but nice, time-saver is used at 7th heaven - change camera mode to Fix in the train I'm still thinking whether or not to change any other menu settings, such as menu colour. Although, my thought at the moment is to leave it as the default blue. I have around 10 seconds to waste, so I have the chance to enter the menu.
