It doesn't really help with navigation. It just ensures you press start to proceed to the next screen as fast as possible. I am just using two controllers as I prefer it ^_^ Here is the Fox sliding st and m64: http://download.yousendit.com/31960996572EA950 1. Sliding Up-Smash 2. Sliding Shine Cancel 3. Sliding off the edge Sliding off the edge cancels the jump, as you can see.

Yes you have to move the hand over, but I've already pressed start to move on. The games takes time to show Fox's animation. So it wastes no time. BTW, the video is processing at GoogleVid/YouTube. It looks good+fast IMO. ComicalFlop, Everyone! Comment on the video!! ^_^ HERE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QgN4qb9lNg http://download.yousendit.com/DC674CC873597ECD M64: http://download.yousendit.com/0735383D5513D519 It's hard to see, but I teleport shine him at the very beginning. This saves precious frames. Also, shining off the stage should be avoided its so damn slow, so I weak drill kicked and shined his recovery instead. I will fast fall after I shine Link to death. It looks better if Fox is off the screen. This doesn't effect the time. I am controlling 1 payer with two controllers (1P and 2P). Why? Because I'm too lazy to calculate the fastest time to travel through the menus. Two controllers allow me to press start on every frame by just hitting the turbo button on alternate frames. So activate two controllers if you wanna play the .m64. Also use the TAS input plugin by Nitsuja.

Why do you have to select 1 stock?
Doesnt matter, there's no lost time ^__^. So may aswell pick it. Edit: BTW I'm using two controllers to do this... it's easier to navigate menus etc. That's ok right?

hehe fair enough. I've already done vs Link faster than him. But I was just messing around. I'll post an AVI of every stage to see if you like it/can be improved. I was x:56 and his time was x:55. The .m64 for that somehow broke. I'll be doing an optimised version of vs link tonight probably. Edit: no worries, im doing vs link again.

antd: do you know what input causes certain items to drop aka pokeball, ned does varying when pressing R affect the pokemon that apears or does different buttons lead to different pokemon?
The way you throw the capsule/barrel/crate and then input before the item is revealed. Any input after releasing a pokeball can lead to a different pokemon. Eg, to get Meowth in my combo video, I had to throw the pokeball upwards and keep pressing the R button. Phil: "Movie is repetitive and not impressive which is too far from what this site aims for, entertaining movies." So what should I do? Since repetitiveness is frowned upon... yet is the fastest way to complete the game =/ so that must mean I can mix-up the matches and it wouldn't matter if I'm slower than the previous run, so long as it is "entertaining". Kinda destroys the meaning of fastest time. ^__^ Now that I think about it. Maybe this game just cannot be accepted by the current judges (well, Phil) x___x

I think you could just go to the left and wait. I'm sure he will pull a bomb out and come after you (^^) I am motivated to at least attempt a fastest time w/ Fox run. Just watching the rejected run though, (no offence to that guy) but it wasn't entertaining to watch that many jump cancelled shines. Maybe because I've put it into so many of my Fox combos ~__~ This is the reason why I haven't tried such a run already. Hmm, technically speaking, I think the Japanese version is faster. There's less hit stun by the attacking character. But who uses Japanese version right ^_~

Yes the slide makes you jump. But, if you can shine cancel the jump or slide off the edge of an uneven surface this will stop the jump. Um, it ends with a jump so it isn't an alternative to running. However, it should be used when you would normally run and jump or run and shine cancel (since majority of Fox will be running and shining right) I can't fully picture that Link scenario =P

what sort of input is used to make the right item fall, and what input makes a certain pokemon appear?
Luck manipulation in this game is pretty easy. Direction and power at which you throw the pokeball and input after you've thrown it manipulates the pokemon which appears. The CPU in this game are extremely repetitive so you'll quickly know which moves they do at certain instances etc. Damn, you've got me wanting to do the Fastest Time run =P The Fox Teleport technique is very useful against teams. Since it's faster than running and makes you jump (then into a shine or Up+A). It must be used. Also against Master Hand. Why run when you can slide =)

I cannot wait for the combo feature to be implemented. This will save so much time on my SSB64 TAS. :)

Link BtT 11"29 Normal Record is 11"31 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECgr6g_SU_8 It's a WIP. I lose some time at the end I'm sure of it... Ok. So pick Kirby and complete as fast as possible whilst getting pacifist? Clearly I should complete the bonuses stages since those add points? How can Kirby move slightly forward when he sucks someone up? I never did find this out =x

BTW, the method used for making this doesnt incorperate savestates... hence why it takes a looooooooooong time to create a SSBM run like this.

Uh oh, you mean the bonus stages are different in different versions?
They are the same stage... but the characters have different properties. EG. Link can jump higher in the JP version. Therefore he can reach a platform in a different way (so the time will be quicker than a US time) This applies to other characters too: Japanese Exclusive BtP (where the Japanese version is advantaged or disadvantaged): 20"73 Luigi - hikapie 16"99 Mario - kabiK 22"11 Link - malva00 21"70 C. Falcon - M.Falcan 24"99 Ness - hikapie 16"77 Yoshi - hikapie thegreginator: I dont know what I was thinking XD I think I had a different tab of BtP loaded and thought that was the link you posted. >.<

antd, awesome BtP videos. I cant wait to see more. Do you know where I can find videos of the non-tool BtT and BtP records? Or if not videos, just a list of the records? I have playing SSB lately and I want to see how my records stack up. Also, if I may make a request, I'd love to see a Pikachu Break the Targets TAS. I have been messing around on this stage a lot and I want to see what a perfect time would look like. EDIT: Nevermind. I think I found the site you are using. Is this it? These videos are absolutely insane, anyone who hasnt watched them should definately give them a look.
Nah that's not the site. The WR times are much faster than that site :p I talk to the current WR holders on GameFAQs. Go to GameFAQS boards, then to super smash bros forum. You'll see a topic called "BtP/BtT records Part 13" or something. There are all the current WR's on the first page. Add me to MSN if you want the current WR videos. I have most of them. The people are cool, they encourage and give advise to new guys... you'd be welcome there. I'll do BtT after BtP... BtT is MUCH more difficult. Here are the WR's: Break the Targets, North American version only: 11"27 Luigi- marth1 08"17 Mario- malva00 09"29 DK- malva00, marth1 11"31 Link- malva00, marth1 08"91 Samus- malva00, marth1 09"43 C. Falcon- malva00 25"00 Ness- malva00 16”53 Yoshi- malva00 30"43 Kirby- hikapie, malva00 25"05 Fox- gontaro, Andrew Kent 16"95 Pikachu- malva00 22”53 Jigglypuff- gontaro TOTAL BEST TIME: 4’26"77

The games are 4.5GB... 1 DVD. I have "backed up" loads of PS2 games. Download speeds are great for large files if you know your bit torrent sources ;-)

Wouldn't Link's ground upA into Jigglypuff's air downA be a pretty effective juggle?
Yes that would work. JSmith, I've tried to Kirby thing, that sadly doesn't work. I'll try out those others you mentioned. Sastopher, I added you to AIM/sent an email? but either you were never online or you didn't reply to me =P I can't remember which. I just finished my new Fox Team Combo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXqrcectJsI It's pretty intense.

I don't know for certain but I think there is a video showing that WR time (or close to it). I'll ask my friend to send it to me.

I'm working on marios BtP (just for fun, my time will get destroyed by probably a half a second) I got 18.33 so far... might improve it later. and I was just wondering if that's a record of any kind. I checked console and I beat them by over 3 seconds(from the sites I found) I wanted to know if it's been TAS'd yet and if I'm behind whoever did it.
The Realtime WR for Mario BtP is: 16"59 Mario- KyleSinclair, malva00 I don't believe anyone has TAS'd this yet. I'll be doing so when I get 'round to Mario =P It seems there's demand for a legit SSB run. Fox is easily the fastest to complete the game with. Wouldn't it be boring to watch this three times as the same character? or did someone mention using the 2nd and 3rd fastest characters...
