I get some of these, perhaps. Oh, this crappy game's in the vault, I'm not gonna watch it, screw it. But then you have something like Gunstar and Mega Man X3 that aren't getting many votes at all. What the heck? It's like as soon as a movie is published nowadays people ignore it unless it's got Mario or Super Metroid in the title. It's, quite frankly, ridiculous. So yeah, that's enough of my complaining this year.

I never played Prince of Persia. Is it basically the same as the NES Version, or is it different in some way?
It lacks a lot of the glitches the DOS port has. For example, you can't skip the guard in level 1. A good showcase of some of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvlNppHraWs

http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/35566506336198317 Here's a testrun I did, which goes up to meeting Ozzie and co. I won't be working on this any further, since I'm....well, doing something else. Feel free to use this as reference if you want. A few notes:
  • The fadeout trick can be used to skip pretty much every boss until Kasmir II from here on out, and heck maybe him too if you do save anywhere over the trigger or something.
  • Ayla is incredibly overpowered, so get her to replace Crono asap.
  • If you CANT skip Kasmir, just toss an elixer at him with Frog.
  • First form of final boss fight can't be elixered, but he might be beatable if I had access to Fire-absorbent armor. No idea if any exists in this game though.
....and notes on optimization
  • I believe the game automatically sets the ATB to Active at the start. Would save a lot of time/attacks to set it to Wait, I would assume.
  • Doing Start + B to GTFO of the menu saves 2-3 frames each time, which I didn't do.
  • The Rainbow is practically worthless, since all you'll really use it for is Yaluk and final boss. Best to reduce farming to just getting enough points for the Green Dream. (Which would mean not farming Naginis for exp and just bum rushing straight to joke Dalton) Might even be worth getting two extras of them, but I'm really not sure.
  • Save the two Speed Tabs I grab for Ayla.
  • whereistheflameabsorbentarmorisweartogod
  • Didn't end up needing the Magic Ring I picked up in Lucca/Robo's section.
  • Holding X (or whatever the menu button is set to) in battle makes your character attack the first available target, even if it's highlighted on Tech or Item. Even better, it leaves the cursor on Tech/Item afterwards. Would save quite a few frames.

Crash more like dash ahuahuahua. Glad to see someone trying to obsolete [1457] PSX Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back by Mukki in 47:37.62 since, well, it's terrible.

Oh my, that was fast! I'll give it a Yes I suppose. Have you considered doing the DOS version of Prince of Persia?

FFXII is...ok. Its gameplay style is modeled after MMOs, so it's pretty open-ended. FFXV is also ok, but I'm not spoiling that.

Although I enjoy the run and the mechanic, I really think you should run the full version of this game. Your version has nine levels and no real ending; it feels more like a beta of the actual game. The full version has about 20 levels, a boss battle, and a secret extra-hard ending. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RV659Tg8BoQ
The full version is also done in Flash, so....

Oh yeah, this exists. [3267] Lynx Scrapyard Dog by Noxxa in 07:46.84 for Vault, and [3271] SNES Prince of Persia by Challenger & Odongdong in 33:31.20 for Moons (PoP might have to wait though, only 4 votes)

Who gives a shit about voices? Your vote is based on the fact that this version has voices rather than objectively judging the completion of the game, holy shit what has this site become?
Voting is based on how entertaining you found a run, yes? I feel that the voices in this version are much more exaggerated and prolonged then the Genesis port, which in my opinion detracts from the run. Clearly this run is well done from a technical standpoint. I know from experience that making a run with 2 players that does entertaining things during the downtime isn't very easy.

Ok, but what does the genesis run have to do with anything? It's a completely different game, none of the strats or inputs are comparable at all.
I compared it to the currently published Genesis run because, well, they look pretty similar. Both have 2 players, and only 1 stage is different between them. I'm just a casual viewer, so I wouldn't really understand the subtle differences. Anyway, apologies if I made anyone angry with my comment. That wasn't my intention.

http://tasvideos.org/rating.exe/3271/details Well, it's above the 6.0 entertainment cutoff. Considering how Scrapyard Dog has a far lower rating and yet has Moons, I think this is a decent enough rating to move this to Moons. I mean, mistakes happen. It's not a huge deal. Also a segacd TAS would be...interesting.

Heyo. So, I've been messing with this game for the past few days, and I found some uses for existing CT glitches that can be applied to a run. Link to video 1) Stutter-stepping, of course, can be used to skip some triggers. The biggest example of this would be skipping the Heckran fight in 1AD, which would save about 7 minutes. 2) In any round of the arena that isn't the final round, the game allows you to move around and open the menu once you select 'Quit'. This is significant since you can combine this with Save Anywhere to save and reset the game after you close the BP box. Once you reload the save, the area resets. Saves on walking time/battles. On the topic of the arena, the first Hard fight gives 1811 exp if you beat it, which can be easily done with a combination of Glenn's Venom Mist and Lucca's Hypno Wave. It's a far better way to get the exp you need then the 300 exp mobs in the reptile timeline. 3) Fadeout trick to skip the Diablos fight, which saves a minute. I've yet to find other uses for it yet, but hey guess we'll see.

In 2017, all TASes will require a $5 subscription fee to watch. Stay tuned. Nah, I'm mostly joking. Looking forward to your submission.

A shocker clip? Like skipping shocker? If its taking forever, you may just want to skip the clip if that makes sense. Are you having any desync problems so far? It certainly won't be good to put some much work into something just to find out it doesn't even sync..
funny you said that, I just decided to avoid the clip a day ago and proceed onwards. The shocker clip is a theoretical skip that lets you despawn Shocker's AI. However, in a TAS it would at most save 3-4 seconds from skipping a cutscene since you can just stunlock Shocker with combos. No desync problems so far, surprisingly. Game is remarkably stable.

For this run to even be possible without any major glitches was unthinkable in recent years. Even simple things like moonwalk being used in a TAS was overlooked by Tool Assisted Speedrunners for many years. I believe it deserves a Star because of these reasons and many more.
This is an interesting point, didn't think of this.

Personally found Ridley and Mother Brain (especially Ridley) to be very entertaining -- especially so, since I wasn't expecting to. Moon-walk really helped make the fight unique and mesmerizing to watch. Anyway, obvious yes vote from me.
You can't seriously tell me that you sat there completely entertained for 4 and a half minutes while Samus killed Mother Brain. Liking the run is completely fine, but come on.
