What if I only have to do it for one frame?

I seem to be having trouble pushing up on player 2 and down on player 1 at the same time. Remapping the keys doesn't work. Any suggestions?

I like those ideas. Especially writing with the flame chaser. If it can be done, I'll do it. (There needs to be more writing in TASes, I say)

Nothing different. I use state 1 for each level and state two for checkpoints within a level. 3-6 are cycled through incrementally. Sometimes if it's very easy to make a mistake, I use state 7. State 0 is for testing new routes in case the new route is slower.

The knife is your sword. The skeleton can be killed without stopping. I tried hard to make sure that attacking enemies didn't waste time. Guess I missed that one. I'll fix it once I can get a hex-editing program to work. EDIT: Okay, I tried this and it threw off the timing on the next room to the point I could no longer beat the game. Killing the skeleton perfectly saves one frame, but I think it will cause the finished TAS to be slower.

I really think this game needs to be run again. Since noone else seems to be doing it, I decided to try myself. Jackic's run was done in the days before frame-advance, and there are just a lot of things about the run that don't seem right to me. The run I'm doing might be slower because it's expert and Jackic's is normal, also going through the options menu takes more time. My plans so far: Player 1: free force shot Player 2: fixed fire Use player 2 to move the screen while player 1 kills enemies (eye candy) Give player 1 double force and player 2 fire chaser for papaya dance. Switch player 2 to lightning saber after bravoo man for pink battle. I'll post a wip after I beat papaya dance, but are there any other suggestions.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4545/Jewel%20Master%20%28JUE%29%20%5BR-USA%5D%5B%21%5D.gmv I am planning to continue this run. I liked this game a lot as a kid, and I think it has many things that save it from being very boring. The music is great. I could listen to it for hours. The ring system provides some variety, and I think most of the boss fights are pretty good. The boss fights are spaced at just the right distance, so there isn't a boss overload, but you don't have to wait forever before you actually meet a boss. I think the game is worth running. I'll finish it. I might not submit it to tasvideos when I do if I don't find anything incredibly interesting, but I'll continue working on it. However, right now I think I want to do a game that will actually get response from the forums, say Gunstar Heroes 2p. I'm putting this run on hiatus for a while.

Alright, I'm done with this run, and if there aren't any glaring errors, I think I'm going to submit it. Let me know if I missed something. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4532/arkiandruski_conquest%28U%29.fcm

Watched it. That wait time was pretty long. I played through the level a few times and it behaved pretty much the exact same way each time, so I don't think there's any luck manipulation. That elevator is weird. I think it depends on how long after you get there. If so, play with the luggage a bit. However, the only way I could get it to consistently come up at a certain time was to comtinually push the button. This even works in real time. Good luck, I guess.

Has anyone actually checked the upper route in Toys in the Hood? It might be more impressive using the spike head to do a modified form of wall-jumping in that part. By the way, I'm not familiar with this gmae, but I found the run very entertaining, mostly because of the gameplay mechanics. Also, there was some pretty good dancing in that run.

Sometimes, such as when the glitching causes the veiwer to just watch the screen scrolling for long periods of time it gets boring because you can't see anything happening. It may be faster, but it's not as exciting. I still think completely glitched-out runs should be published on this site, but like with ALttP and Rygar, sometimes it's better to see the run without the glitches.

I'm all for this. I've read the FAQ's, but had to figure out most of it on my own. I still don't know how to use memory watch. I'd be very grateful to any body who'd be willing to do this.

Thanks. I'll look into that. Anything to shave of time. I tried searching for the bos RAM values, but I couldn't find them. Every value I watched did the wrong thing after a little bit. If you could help me find them, that would be great. I would like to know if my weapon choices were the best. Re: entertaining by killing more enemies. I might be able to do that in a few places, but most of the places where I decided to go full pacifist were for a good reason. The way spells work you can have two spells at once. I try to have the speed spell on one hand as often as possible for obvious reasons. However, there are some places that require a jump spell (High jump or double jump) as well, and with a jump spel on one hand and a speed spell on the other, that means there's no room for an attack spell. Also many enemies can't be killed in one pass because their HP is too high. This is especially true on the first level, where I'm basically limitted to a flame spell (I could have fireball, but that would require sacrificing my speed (for more information on how the ring system works, read one of the faqs on gamefaqs.com).

Hey all. I'd like like to get you guys opinion on a game. The name of the game is Jewel Master, as you can probably tell from the title of the thread. The premise of the game is basically that an evil man started attacking the land, and four elemental masters stood against him. However, they failed to stop him, so they put their powers in some rings and spread them across the world. You play the Elemental Master who travels the world searching for these rings and uses them to fight against the evil. I've got a test run of this game. It's very unoptimized, but I think it might give you all an idea of what a TAS might look like. There are four colors of rings and two can be put on each hand and combined into spells, which could provide a little variety as I go through the game. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4115/Jewel%20Master%20%28JUE%29%20%5BR-USA%5D%5B%21%5D.gmv Let me know what you think of the game, and if you have any suggestions for my run, please feel free. This run doesn't quite complete the game. It stops in the last area. I was planning on finishing the entire run before posting, but I decided I needed some feedback.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4065/NES%20Conquest_of_the_Crystal_Palace_%28U%29.fcm Well, I'm not completely satisfied with it, but here's version 2 of level 1, about 100 frames faster. Comments are welcome.

Go to the Options menu Click on General Uncheck next to "show frame counter" at least that's how it's done on my version

Your example seems to stop right before the first level starts. EDIT: I'm redoing the level right now, and I'm at the place where the background changes to night. I'm now 68 frames faster than my first WIP. I'd like to see your route, though.

Isn't one of the ideas behind tasvideos to do things the developers didn't expect? I'd probably watch this movie either way though, especially if it abuses having mulitple players. EDIT: I think I asked the wrong question. Of course the programmers expected this. It seems to change the gameplay a lot, though. I'd like to see it done both ways if possible.

People say that about art and science all the time, and they are constantly proven wrong.

Hey, it's been a while and I think tim's not continuing this run (shame). Anyway, I saw his cancelled submission and I was planning on doing a TAS of this game at some point anyway, so this inspired me to actually start it. I plan on trying to improve the run, using some of the techniques discussed in the submission thread (damage boosting, reduced lag etc.). When watching through the submission, I saw that tim333 did a lot of things right, but made a few mistakes, so I'll be using his run to help me through this one. Here's my first run through level 1. I'm already beating the submitted movie by 1147 frames. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3989/conquest-arkiandruski-wip.fcm A few things to note. -You use down A to call the dog. Down A also causes the dog to disappear. After he disappears, you have to wait a bit before calling him again. A is also the jump button, so you have to wait a frame before jumping to land on him. I try to hide the frames when I call the dog by always making them the frame I land or the frames right before I jump. Tim333 hesitated a few times before calling the dog. This was because he called him off screen right before he needed him then tried to call him back on. I try to avoid this by telling him to go away a few jumps before I actually need him. -You will see two missed attacks during the boss fight. They are there because if you attack then press the arrow to attack in the opposite direction the second attack is a lot more powerful than the first. I discovered that accidentally when I first use it in the movie. It's possible I can kill both of them using only two swings. I'll test this out when I go through again. -Health is replenished when you beat the levels, so I could theoretically damage boost three more times. I'm looking for good places to put those other boosts. If you have suggestions, please give them. I you have any comments or things that I missed or stuff that looks unoptimized, please feel free to comment.

I have plans. I'll post a wip once I'm far enough along in my next game.

It's up Now I just have to sit and wait while people express opinions on my run. Am I allowed to vote yes just so I can see the poll results?

So I tested this, and it worked, but I can't get any hexeditors to even open. I think I'll submit the file anyway, and if I figure out a way to add that in, I will.
